Eduardo’s Stunning Brace Whets Arsenal Appetites

91 comments September 9th, 2007

Croatia kept up their fantastic form with a 2-0 win over Estonia, with our very own Eduardo da Silva the star with both goals, as well as winning a penalty.

His first was a real poacher’s goal – an overhead kick in a crowded penalty area hooking the ball beyond the goalkeeper’s drive. The second, a stunning finish from the edge of the box, curled with pace and power high into the roof of the net. See the video below for both goals, and other highlights.

His goalscoring instinct is obvious – he’s now the second highest scorer in the competition, with 8 goals. If and when he can transfer that from to the Premier League, we will be delighted.

Another new boy, Lassana Diarra, played 90 minutes at right-back as France held Italy to a 0-0 draw. Ironically, he probably would not have been playing had another Gunner, Bacary Sagna, not been injured. Whilst it’s clear Diarra is an able full-back, I envisage most of his appearances for us coming in central midfield.

Tomas Rosicky made it three goals in three games, giving Czechs the lead against San Marino, whilst Robin van Persie showed some nice touches against Bulgaria.

The biggest plus, however, is that there has been no injury news of note. Let’s hope that continues next week.
