Chelsea Fans Gutted As Arsene Swoops For Diarra

“I was gutted to hear Diarra has gone arsenal. I had really high hopes for him, I don’t remember him having 1 bad game for us at all and he was an excellent versatile back up. Just hope he doesn’t fulfill his potential at the Gooners because he will be a great player.”
“I know Diarra wanted to leave but this is just annoying. Why Arsenal? Couldn’t we have flogged him to some mid-table team. Losing a promising young talent like that to your local rivals is hard to stomach.”
“This decision by Chelsea is very disappointing. Diarra played well for us last year when he had his chances.
To sell such a talent like Diarra will one day, just like Gallas, cost us.”
“What Wenger knows is picking young talents and him wanting Diarra is a testament to what good talent he is. I can’t believe the club let him go when it’s obvious Wenger rates him. Just hope Wengers evaluation of him is as flawed as his evaluation of Baptista etc. Over so many years, how many has Wenger got wrong?”
Thanks to the CFC-net forums for those hilarious comments. After getting Gallas last year, we’re almost getting to the point where we can make crass jokes about Chelsea being our “feeder club”.
Diarra’s a good signing. Not an obvious one in terms of what we need in the squad, but a good player nonetheless. Sometime next week I’ll be assessing all our transfers and final squad in a more in-depth season preview, but for now, I’m pretty pleased with this deal. Meanwhile, Jay Simpson also joined Millwall on a six-month loan deal.
The fall-out from the “Red & White” investment in Arsenal continues. Apparently several Arsenal blogs (though not, for reasons I cannot possibly imagine, Gunnerblog) were quoted in the Financial Times, which gives me some hope: with the Arsenal Supporters Trust happy to support Dein & Co, the fans opposed to United Fan Usmanov need to be heard. Fortunately for us, “Arsenal fans despair at takeover attempt” is probably a better story than “Arsenal fans gleeful at dodgy takeover”.
You can read Arsene’s comments on the situation here. As usual, he says all the right things.
Finally, one of the more popular posters on the comments section, Respects Highbury, has written some extended thoughts on the Usmanov story, which can be read as the first entry in the comments section below.
Portsmouth Preview tomorrow.
