Cygan: “I can’t tackle or accelerate.”

11 comments June 1st, 2006

It’s just a shame that he’s the last to know.

This bizarre interview with French magazine But! not only includes Cygan’s stunning yet admittedly naïve admission, but also describes him as “instrumental” to our Champions League campaign. And finally, it includes the news that all Arsenal fans were waiting for. Never mind Thierry Henry, this is what we’ve been gagging to hear:

I am here for four years. I thought about leaving during my first two years. Now I feel like a Londoner.

Well thank God for that. I don’t know about you, but I was starting to worry. You may have noticed, I like the way the quotes look in this layout. I’ll probably use them in most posts. Get used to it.

In seriousness, I wonder if Pascal is just putting a brave face on it. It was my understanding that the further two years on his contract were merely options that could be taken up, in line with the strict over-30s policy that recently claimed Robert Pires.

If he does stay, perhaps his star status might convince Obafemi Martins to come and join us. Italian sources suggest that the super-quick Nigerian striker is available, with Inter Milan opening the bidding at around £13m. With Walcott’s explosive pace, Adebayor’s strength, and Van Persie’s lethal finishing, Martins could potentially be the perfect foil for Henry. Anyone who witnessed his stunning performance at Highbury a couple of years back will vouch for him. Something to think about, at any rate.
