Fine line over Cole’s future

- Cole fined £100,000
- Mourinho fined £200,000
- Chelsea fined £300,000, with a suspended 3 point deduction.
It’s a pretty good result from an Arsenal perspective. Chelsea and Mourinho appear to be more heavily implicated than Cole, and I don’t think anybody expected anything more than a fine: the suspended points deduction is a real statement of intent on the part of the FA, and could soon come to fruition over the John Obi Mikel saga.
However, Cole seems intent on appealing against the verdict, which has caused David Dein to speak out, advising Cole to “rethink the strategy”.
And yes, I think we can presume that is a threat.
If Ash goes ahead with this appeal, and pushes on with the “restraint of trade” argument, he will be further jeopardising his already clouded Arsenal future.
This one could rumble on for some time.
