Arsenal Must Capitalise On Milan Victory

The fall-out from our victory over Milan continues, with the best news to come out of it being that Mathieu Flamini appears ready to commit his long-term future to the club:
“We’re a new generation, we have to create a new history. I want to be part of that history so I hope I’ll be here for next season.
At the moment my advisers are talking with the club so I really hope everything will be OK. I can’t put a time on it, but I really want to stay.”
Watching Flamini on Tuesday night I began to speculate on the cost of replacing him. Considering the manner in which he outshone Gennaro Gattuso in Milan, it’ll be hard to find anybody with his degree of combativeness and class.
The Director of our Youth Academy, Liam Brady, looks set to split his duties between Arsenal and the Republic of Ireland international side. As long as he stays at Arsenal, I don’t mind what he does: the role he’s played in revamping our youth system cannot be underplayed.
Everybody around the club is on a real high at the moment, and it’s vital we turn that to our advantage in the coming weeks, starting with Wigan away on Sunday. Steve Bruce’s side are fighting for scraps at the bottom of the table, and do not have the glamourous reputation to motivate the players in the same vein as Milan. But what we need to do is remember the manner of Tuesday’s victory and ensure that it is no fluke by providing consistency on the domestic stage to match.
If we can do that, silverware awaits.
