Arsenal need Top Gunn to fire them past PSV

In the beginning, there was the Gunnerblog Man of the Moment.  And then we moved, and like many traditions (morris dancing, maypoles, and incest) it died.  Tonight shall see the rebirth of the Gunnerblog Man of the Moment under a new guise – Top Gunn.

As you can see on the right, at the moment the Top Gunn is a bunch of little black silhouettes.  But the way it will work is the same as the old Man of the Moment: it will change intermittently according to form.  The hero of tonight’s game will take over the mantle, and hold it until he is surpassed by another.  Your views of course are welcome, but err… well, mine’s the one that counts.

So who’re the contenders tonight?  Well, Thierry Henry is fit and could start.  Two goals from him would certainly put him in pole position.  Emmanuel Adebayor’s return could bring with it another storming performance, whilst Cesc Fabregas is always capable of the impossibly good.

William Gallas and Kolo Toure will both be vital – a goal conceded would need us leaving three.  Gilberto, meanwhile, has a knack of critical goals that has served us well this season.  And if Abou Diaby was to get the start he deserved, could he produce a Vieira-like performance to drive us into the next round?

If we’re to win tonight, we’ll need total football – fast-paced inventiveness in and around the box.  We need to create chances, and take the best of those.  One stat that has escaped a lot of pundits is that we haven’t kept many clean sheets this season: with Jefferson Farfan returning for PSV, there’s a good chance we’ll need three.

Come on Arsenal.
