In mid-February, I sent Danny Karbassiyoon a message to express my sadness as the end of his football career. Kindly, he got back to me. I’ve been saving his response for a slow news day. And here it is:
Hi Gilbertosilver,
Thanks a lot for your message, I really appreciate it. I definitely didn’t expect any of this when I wrote that letter at all, seeing as I was writing it so that none of my friends felt left out about not hearing straight away about my situation. I have to say, the reaction has greatly surprised me but lifted my spirits greatly and it’s just been really nice hearing what everyone has had to say.
My time at Arsenal was amazing (who wouldn’t love it?) and it really pleases me to be receiving all this comforting messages. Ever since the first game I saw when I was on trial (0-0 draw against Valencia in the Champions League in ’02) I fell in love with Highbury, Arsenal, the fans, and London. The two years I spent there will always be cherished and the goal I scored against City will always be one of the greatest moments of my life. I just want to say thanks to everyone at the club and all the supporters who made my time in London that much more special. Once again, I appreciate the message and I hope you have a great day…
Danny
Top man. In other news, Arsenal have gone all Vietnamese, Ryan Babel has been linked again, and Gilberto gives everyone that extra bit of motivation to beat PSV. It certainly should be less difficult than the first leg with Jan Kromkamp and particularly Manuel Da Costa out – he was their outstanding player in the first leg and has been lined up for a summer move to Chelsea.
