So said Arsene Wenger this afternoon, when asked about our £3.4m signing:
“I followed him for two years. We have had him on trial, and seen him on tape. The fact we got him in is fantastic for us. He’s a central midfielder who can win the ball, and can play. He’s 18 years old, and was captain of the Brazil U-17 side. He’s an exceptional talent, i am very happy for the future of the club that we signed him. He has a strong personality aswell, and has all you need to be successful in the centre of midfield.”
Sounds like we’ve got a real player on our hands. He’ll be with us until at least the January transfer window, at which point he might disappear on loan for 6 months. I wouldn’t expect to see him anywhere near the first team this seasn, though he might make the odd Carling Cup appearance.
William Gallas, meanwhile, will be straight in at the deep-end, possibly at left-back. It depends on the availability of Johan Djourou: if the Swiss defender is fit then Gallas will replace Hoyte at left-back – if not, then Gallas will start alongside Toure in the middle.
Julio Baptista, meanwhile, will compete with Robin van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor to start alongside Thierry Henry.
With one point from two games, it’s vital we get a win tomorrow – Come on Arsenal!
