My comment on the Nasri situation + Cesc Show Highlights

Add comment June 3rd, 2008

So Samir Nasri won’t be signing before he has participated in Euro 2008. The delay is not, as you may have read in some quarters, anything to do with wage disputes. It is simply that Nasri does not have the time or inclination to leave the France camp when he knows the deal is essentially done.

I’m sure he will sign in late July. Until then, we won’t miss him. Like any other player involved in the Euros, he won’t even return to training until shortly before the season starts.

Nasri is essentially off the market whilst he is France, so I wouldn’t worry about another club gazumping us. It’s clear that a few seasons without any trophies have turned our fans into panic-prone mentalists. There are plenty of blogs out there thriving on situations like the Nasri one, turning non-stories into Miltonic epics. In previous years, I could arguably have been accused of indulging in activities myself, scouring foreign newspapers to give you a minute-by-minute report of ongoing transfer deals.

Well, you’ll have to forgive me, but I’m bored of it now. Of course Arsene will bring people in – some of whom we’ll expect, some of whom will surprise us. But it will happen. Worrying about it won’t make it happen any quicker. We’re not Real Madrid – we don’t conduct our transfer business in public. At the moment, most fans are behaving like the kids on Christmas day who are shaking their presents to try and work out what’s inside. Sit back, and let yourself be surprised. I guarantee it will make for a more enjoyable Summer.

Cesc Fabregas says he wants revenge for Spain’s exit in the 2006 World Cup at the hands of France. In Germany, Cesc was used initially as a subsitute for Spain, and grew into the side as the tournament progressed.

This time around, he’ll be as much a star of the team as he was in his own TV show. For those of you who missed The Cesc Fabregas Show when it was screen on Sky, Nike have kindly provided me with these highlights:

I was actually in the audience that night, and despite a few too many queues, it was a very enjoyable experience. For an accurate write-up of the occasion, see Goodplaya.

Stop worrying about transfers. Who knows, we might sign someone else before Nasri…?
