Man Yoo Preview: Are you nervous? I’m nervous…

Add comment April 13th, 2008

It’s quite amazing. Considering our recent run of results, we should be well out of the title race by now. However, win today, and the greatest domestic prize going is suddenly back on the cards.

That, frankly, is easier said than done. We’re going to Old Trafford to face a Man U side who are flying, and were able to give the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney a rest in midweek. Meanwhile, we’ll be without Bacary Sagna and Mathieu Flamini: two of our best players this season.

That said, of course we can win. If everything clicks into gear and we play as we did in patches against Liverpool, beating United is achievable. Hell, we did it last season. And we had injuries that day too: Lauren, Clichy, Senderos, Van Persie, and even Thierry Henry were all out.

Let’s do it today. Even if we cannot eventually prize the title from United’s grip, then let this be our last hurrah. Whatever any critics might say, we’ve contributed enormously to a thrilling Premier League season, and a result at Old Trafford would be a fitting monument to our players in the absence of a trophy.

If we fail to win, our title chances and (to be brutally honest) season will be over. You can talk all you like about who Arsene should or shouldn’t have signed, but the fact is that Arsenal have adopted a policy and to abandon it now would represent a gigantic waste.

If we win…?  The prospect is almost too tantalising to fully discuss.  Suffice to say that as I type this, at 11.21 GMT on Sunday morning, the title race is very much alive.
