Walcott will cost £9m; My latest Arsenal-related dream

Add comment April 1st, 2008

When Arsenal signed Walcott in January 2006, the fee was an initial £5m, with possible supplementary fees dependent on international appearances and the clubs success taking it up to a record £12m.  However, since that deal was done, Southampton have fallen into financial difficulties – so much so that they’ve sacrificed £2.9m of the potential fee to settle up at £9m now.

Although Walcott has yet to fulfill his enormous potential, I’m confident that eventually we’ll look back on that price as a bargain.   In recent weeks, Walcott has shown that he is beginning to harness his remarkable pace and ally it with the close control neccessary to skip away from defenders.  Although he’s likely to be on the bench for tomorrow’s game against Liverpool, I’d be very tempted to throw him in ahead of Emmanuel Eboue.

Speaking of Eboue, it’s only right I tell you about my crazy dream last night.  I think in order to understand it, it’s quite important you know I spent a lot of last night talking about the World’s Campest Form of Entertainment: professional wrestling.

Now: in the dream, I was playing for Newcastle against Fulham.  We were leading 1-0, and were closing in on a vital victory.  However, a late Fulham attack resulted in an equaliser when their star winger, the aforementioned Eboue, took out our keeper by smashing him over the head with a folded steel chair, which somehow avoided the attention of the referee.

After the final whistle blew, I flew into a rage.  Grabbing the very chair Eboue had used against a hapless Steve Harper, I charged at Eboue, hitting him repeatedly in the face with the chair, leaving him a blubbering wreck.

Now, from this dream we can conclude several things: 1) I wish Emmanuel Eboue played for Fulham, 2) I wish I played for Newcastle, and 3) I have some quite disturbing rage issues.

Tomorrow I’ll be previewing a little game against Liverpool.
