The Last Great English Club

Yesterday, Liverpool joined Chelsea and Manchester United in being bought out by foreign ownership. Throw in the fact that Portsmouth, Aston Villa, and West Ham have suffered similar fates, and it’s not ridiculous to suggest that Arsenal are The Last Great English Club.
Certainly in the top four, we’re the only one with home-based ownership. That has both advantages and draw-backs: for every Liverpool fan whose cautious about the new owners, there’s another whose delighted at the possibility of increased transfer funds.
We are in the fortunate position of having Arsene Wenger, which means that as long as he is around, we will never be forced to spend as much as the rest of the top four. However, with foreign ownership spreading like some kind of nasty rash, it does make you wonder how long it is until at least some Arsenal shares (probably those with fake tan coming off all over them) are sold to outside investors.
Tonight, we must pray for a clean bill of health from the Internationals. Start…
Now.
