Viera to play for Arsenal next season…?

Sebastián Viera, of Nacional de Montevideo, the Uruguay goalkeeper. Arsene has admitted he is a target, and the News of the World have linked us with a £4m move.
Arsene’s admission was made after last night’s 2-1 victory over Porto – a win which made us worthy winners of the Amsterdam Tournament. I know it’s just a couple friendlies thrown into a league format, but a pre-season trophy won’t do anything to harm the squad’s morale. The same could be said of the Community Shield. It was also nice to win our first game in the redcurrant strip.
After a lacklustre first half, it was substitute Freddie Ljungberg who got the goals. Other impressive performances came from Dennis Bergkamp, and the lively Alexander Hleb, who is threatening to make a real impact from the wings this season.
Arsene has spoken out to quash the Michael Owen link, saying, “At the moment I am not looking for a striker, I am looking at other areas and we have not made any approach for Michael Owen.” That, it would appear, is that, then.
Oh, and Lyon appear to be trying to drag us into a bidding war with Chelsea over Essien. We just can’t match them, though.
Silly of them, really.
