Chelsea: “We don’t want to lose Diarra to one of our rivals”
0 guns August 4th, 2007
Chelsea assistant manager Steve Clarke has denied the club are on the brink of selling Lassana Diarra to Arsenal:
“Last January he came to me and spoke about his need to get more playing time. After that, he came in to the team and did very well. But we don’t want to lose players to one of our rivals. Last year William Gallas joined Arsenal, but that was because we were getting Ashley Cole in the deal.”
Clarke certainly implies that we are interested in the player. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with this one: Chelsea have a history of denying possible sales, only for the deal to be concluded in the following days.
Arsene Wenger has given his reaction our Champions League qualifying opponents, Sparta Prague. I have to say that all things being equal, we really should beat them. Especially when you remember that they have Tomas “Super Tom” Repka. Our own Super Tom, a certain Mr. Rosicky, will enjoy a trip back to his former stomping ground.
At 8.15pm GMT we face Ajax in our final pre-season game of the Summer. I’d expect the new back four of Sagna-Toure-Gallas-Clichy to play in front of Jens Lehmann, with Cesc and Diaby in the middle. Eboue and Rosicky might be the wingers, with Robin van Persie partnered by one of Aleksandr Hleb or Eduardo da Silva. Basically, it will be a side very close to the one that faces Fulham in just over a week’s time.
In that respect, it should make for some very interesting viewing. I’m off to a wedding. Ciao.

top 10?
7. guzeppe | August 4th, 2007 at 11:49 am
That’s the first time its top five for me. Now for the team. I hope that tonight we see a 1st eleven. Hopefully with a 4-4-1-1 with Lehmann, Sagna, Toure, Gallas, Clichy, Eboue, Fabregas, Diaby, Rosicky, RVP, Eduardo. Then as subs I would put in Hleb for RVP, Flamini for Fabregas, at around 70 minutes Bendtner for Rosicky with Eduardo going on the left. What do the others think?
8. guzeppe | August 4th, 2007 at 11:52 am
Hope we get Diarra though. One for the future and also for the present when others do not play either due to injuries or suspensions or to rest them.
9. GoOnie | August 4th, 2007 at 11:53 am
Sounds like a good team to start with…i would also like to see later on walcott replace eboue on the flank

11. GoOnie | August 4th, 2007 at 11:55 am
diarra is already 22…he is more of a player for now rather than one for the future….but id rather have diaby in mid….
12. Good to be a GOONAH!! | August 4th, 2007 at 11:57 am
Cesc
Gilberto
Diaby
Denilson
Flamini
Song
Randall
Merida
so… we dont exactly NEED Diarra… but for £2m we must be interested… he’s got fantastic potential… and we could getat least £4-5m in selling Song to Charlton… I hope this happens and that these constant rumoursa about Queresma are true

Diarras a good buy. We do have too many CMs but of the wrong type. Diarra would be a perfect successor to Gilberto. All my Chelsea friends (I use friends in the lightest possible term) wax lyrical about him.
Flamini? Meh, works hard but hardly one to sober the defense
Song? Rubbish
Randall? More Cesc than Gilby
Merida? See Randall
Denilson? I don’t know about him
15. NicktheGooner | August 4th, 2007 at 12:07 pm
The cunt came from a team full of cunst. And still he got No.10
16. neville | August 4th, 2007 at 12:12 pm
diarra? another short foreign midfielder - not a good idea - chelsea playing a clever game - sidwell (english) for free we get another frenchman - they’ll beat us over the head with the ole ‘their all forigners’ stick - no optimism in dis house - i still remember the chelsea home game one-nil up one man up hanging on for a point at the end of the game - it was arsenal v chelsea a few years ago but reversed - we are the psychological underdogs
17. Good to be a GOONAH!! | August 4th, 2007 at 12:13 pm
I reallly dont like Chelsea… but I loved it when Diaby kicked Terry in the head… nite nite
18. Good to be a GOONAH!! | August 4th, 2007 at 12:22 pm
hahahahah… you reckon Chelsea are better off with Sidwell? You are as thick as your name suggests (16.)…
once the Robben transfer to Real Madrid pays for the very average Malouda… you will find that Chelsea have had a cost neutral summer with free signings being the order of the day…
prudence has come to Stamford Bridge… and with it an opportunity to poach young French internationals at a bargain like Diarra…

20. Begeegs | August 4th, 2007 at 12:50 pm
I hope that it isn’t true. We’d be taking in a collection of central midfielders. What’s the point in that unless we had deals lined up for others, which I doubt….

yeh I gotta agree about how that moanining, whining , bitching cunt got Bergy’s #10 jersy! it takes the piss, Dennis gave us 10 memorable years of full commitment! Soon as that twat gallas joined all he’s done nothing but moan so really thats all he’s going to be remember for 1) being a moaning cunt and 2) chav$ki scum who jumped ship same as that other twat ca$hley “rent boy” cunt with that 2 bit hooker of a wife he’s got! But back to the main topic in hand - Is Diarra any good? I personally don’t rate Song, I’ve seen him in a few games and what I’ve seen is poor. I do rate Denilson though, I hope that we see some more of him cos I think he’s a class find, wicked shot on him, gets stuck in, passing is good, can take people on and alert. Can’t ask for more than that from a midfielder can you? So if Diarra is any good and he does come here its hard to see where he’ll fit in - Bert, Cesc, Diaby, Flamini, Denilson, Song *doh* in the cm berths. Wierd how chavski have gotten players in for free just lately, maybe abromabitch has said no more money to be spent or he’s having enough of the club? who knows and who cares! We’ve got a better manager, best stadium in the country and world class players so can’t grumble really. A couple of trophies this season wouldn’t go amiss though preferably the CL and League would be nice

I think Diarra will join Arsenal if not in this transfer window,he chould well join us on the bosman rule.Good player, surely his arrival will mean the end of Flamini(Sold) or Song(Loan)…
27. guzeppe | August 4th, 2007 at 1:39 pm
No willyG. It would simply mean that Gilberto is nearing the end of his AFC career. Although I hate to say it since he has been a favourite of mine since he began with AFC. Diarra is the direct replacement for GS. That is why I said that he is one for the future. He will get a good number of games at AFC, much more than at the Band of Moscow club but will not be the automatic 1st choice. He will be the 1st choice but in 2008/2009.
28. guzeppe | August 4th, 2007 at 1:40 pm
But then I would like to see Song being sold for 4million to someone. The Flamster will stay though.
29. Gudplaya | August 4th, 2007 at 1:41 pm
Willy
It is true Diarra might be a good player but I remember him being skinned by Rosicky and co last year. Still let’s give him the benefit of the doubt….
my question is..What does he bring to the team? Do we need another clone of what we already have in central m/f and in defence? Diarra is still a developing player. Not Necessarilly better than Flim Flam and Song Bilong who are already integrated into th team. If AW buys Diarra when even my football illeterate Grand Mother recognizes that we the team is crying out for a wide player and not another right back, I’ll be very very disappointed in him.
30. Gudplaya | August 4th, 2007 at 1:48 pm
27
Guzeppe, sei Italiano?
Anyways, I disagree with you. Diaby is Gilbertos successor (or should be when AW stops wasting him on the wings). And so is Denilson. He tackles, he passes, he shoots. Both are better than Diarra. We don’t need this guy and frankly I think this is another Media hallucination that GS has again, in his ill judgement, against all consiting logic, chosen to fan. Won’ happen
31. DeiseGooner | August 4th, 2007 at 1:48 pm
Get Diarra for 2 mil - Sell Song for 3 mil - Flamini will be gone at the end of the season anyway. So we end up with quality replacement for Gilberto.
32. Arnold | August 4th, 2007 at 1:49 pm
2 player might join arsenal this week i just heard that diarra could be are first sign then it could mean modric join as well for 8m
33. Gudplaya | August 4th, 2007 at 1:49 pm
Denilson/Diaby will replace Gilberto
34. DeiseGooner | August 4th, 2007 at 1:49 pm
Bot we dont need him really - Diaby and Denilson will both be quality
35. guzeppe | August 4th, 2007 at 1:49 pm
Diarra is a replacement. He is not a need. To say that Song and Flamini are the equal of or will keep Diarra out of the side means that you do not know how to read a game. Diarra is an invisible wall. Flamini and Song definitely are not.
The winger is a need……..but only a left one at that. The right is already world class with Sagna and Eboue laying claim for compulsory inclusion. We need someone who can pull players out of position towards the left. The team is 9/10 there. We need that 1/10 to make it a great one. But it will eventually come amici miei.

Certo che sono Italiano Gudplaya. Con tutta la razza. Perche? Sei italiano anche lei.
39. El Tommo | August 4th, 2007 at 1:52 pm
We certainly do have a loads of CM’s but a move for a player like Diarra makes sense for numerous reasons
Of all those CM’s which one is the natural heir to Gilberto? None obv .. aside from Song [who knows what that's about?] the others are more attack minded than Gilberto. Flamini _might_ be considered a defensive midfielder but doesn’t quite look to have the sitting and holding mentality nor the authority. When Gilberto leaves we will require a new anchor man and Diarra fits the bill perfectly with possibly Flamini able to cover. It makes sense to bring him in now while he can learn his trade from Gilberto.
The other big reason is his investment potential and that of other CM’s already on our books. If we end up with too many - ok - let’s sell one of them in a couple of years, we’ll make a good profit for sure.
The only problem with this transfer would be if it is not accompanied by the signing of a wide man as well.
40. Gudplaya | August 4th, 2007 at 1:52 pm
35 Pardon me but when exactly did Diarra become an ‘invisible wall’? As I can remember he’s always player in defence. Should I even be getting sucked into this convo with you btw?
41. guzeppe | August 4th, 2007 at 1:53 pm
Diaby and Denilson are not invisible walls. They are quality midfielders who like to advance. Diarra is one who makes himself available to the team and does the dirty work. Remember when Gilberto was doing the same in his first two years everyone kept saying that he is a waste. Is he a waste now? No. Gilberto puts the team first himself 2nd. Diarra likewise.
42. NO OFFENCE | August 4th, 2007 at 1:53 pm
Flamini will be off next year when his contract runs out. Song will probably be sold, so that would mean a place for Diarra maybe.

48. Evil, Evil Dave | August 4th, 2007 at 3:32 pm
Diarra sucks. He’s not a central midfielder, he’s a sodding right-back, and not a great one at that. When you can’t get in the team ahead of an out-of-position Geremi or Essien then you MUST be rubbish.
Diaby is a tough-tackling defensive midfielder and as such is a perfect successor to Gilberto.
WE DON’T NEED THIS GUY
By the way, I saw the Lazio game on Thursday and Song played very crummy indeed.

guzeppe– if you are Italian, then “sei Italiano anche Lei” is just grammatical hash!!! Sei is the informal verb (are you) while Lei is the formal subject. It should be: “Sei Italiano anche Tu”, or since Gilberto deserves all our respect, “Anche Lei e Italiano?…anyhow, I prefer your game to much of the offensive B.S. on this board…so we will call you our honorary Italian…Saluti! J

Sorry about the grammar lads. But when you have a three year old son running between your legs all the time and touching the keyboard then its impossible to concentrate. By the way my son’s name is Manu’(petit) Liam(Brady).
58. Kung-Fu | August 4th, 2007 at 5:21 pm
We do not need Diarra and we certainly are not in for him. Has any of you seen him play in central midfield for Chelsea? He was mostly played at right back and we do not need another right back, we have enough thank you very much. When we played them, Rosisky and Hleb had him in their pocket. He kept obstructing them by turning his back on them when he got beat. He committed endless infringements. We have better Central Midfielders and he won’t get anywhere near the first team. He will be in the same position as he is at Chelsea right now, so what would be the point of coming to Arsenal?
59. Non Edible Nacho | August 4th, 2007 at 5:22 pm
A player like Diarra would only be useful if brought next season, when the Flamster contract runs out and Gilberto gets a bit older. That way, he would get some playing time (shared with Cesc, Diaby, the still young but no too much Denilson and Bert) and could start fighting for a first team spot, giving us some good cover in the meantime.
60. Non Edible Nacho | August 4th, 2007 at 5:23 pm
And Diarra’s contract runs out next season as well I think, so it could be a good piece of business getting him for free.
61. ................. | August 4th, 2007 at 5:24 pm
wenger was watching feyernord v porto last nite………drenthe?
62. Jimmy | August 4th, 2007 at 5:42 pm
can people stop saying that we/ve got enough right backs?? Diarra is not a right back… It’s like other teams looking at Flamini and saying “nah don’t need him, we’ve got loads of left backs”.. He did a job in an unnatural position, that’s all. What we should be asking ourselves is, do we have a replacement for Gilberto? Don’t dismiss him so readily. All our 1st choice CM’s are offensive except Bert whereas Flamini and Song are nowhere near as good as Diarra. I would bite Chelsea’s hand off to get him for so little.
63. crafty bison | August 4th, 2007 at 5:46 pm
Diarra is a central midfielder; he occasionally played at right-back last season because Chelsea has a right-back crisis. But HE IS NOT A RIGHT-BACK.
64. guzeppe | August 4th, 2007 at 5:48 pm
Diarra happens to be a good footballer who can fit anywhere and do a good job. His best position is central midfield but he can play anywhere. Better than Flamini and Grimandi though.

I am actually hoping that K-J Huntelaar makes a complete and utter mug of our defence tonight. I really hope he gets a hat-trick and we lose 3 or 4-0. I that’s the only way to get Wenger to pull his finger out and sign this striker who we NEED and who is CLASS..then so be it. Would rather get thumped in pre-season and end up with a super-class player. I still cannot believe that one week to go and Arsene Wenger has STILL not signed anything like a world-class player, winger, striker to come into this squad. Unbelieveable. He is playing with his future and will only fall flat on his face with this shower of shite squad.
76. Biltong Alegria | August 4th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
Barely just under 10 mins of the gam gone but just looking at this team is fucking hurting me. It’s fucking pitiful. Henry? Where is he? Another season with top experience released. No experienced quality brought in. Still no wingers. In fact..it’s just a shitter version of the side that finished 21 pts behind the leaders last season, minus Henry! I actually cannot believe that Arsene Wenge intends to go into the new season with this. I am not watching an Arsenal side, I am watching a youth team of lightweights with no balls. Does Wenger even care about winning the league anymore? I’d be happy to finish within 15 pts of the leaders with these lot….
77. Biltong Alegria | August 4th, 2007 at 8:28 pm

103. guzeppe | August 4th, 2007 at 9:49 pm
Blimey Paulie. Did your mum in-law thread on your big toe or else your wife throw something at you. You really sound angry. Be careful or you might get not a rude awakening but a very cold one……freezing infact. Per l’amor del cielo.
104. Freddy Adu | August 4th, 2007 at 9:51 pm
huntelaar fucking blows - i can’t believe so many idiots were calling for him to be signed
105. Freddy Adu | August 4th, 2007 at 9:53 pm

Forget huntelaar what hav our stikers done? Squandered shit easy chances?!
107. Texas Gunner | August 4th, 2007 at 9:58 pm
That may be true, but it’s a bit stupid whining to fans trying to support the team they have. Of course we’d all like Wenger to sign a world class left winger, but if he doesn’t, it doesn’t mean our team will drop to tenth or even fifth. Name one player for Tottenham who could crack our starting eleven. I can only name two: Aaron Lennon and Dmitar Berbatov. That’s it. So don’t worry so much. Now as to your ambitions for winning the title: I agree with you. It is frustrating seeing ManU, Liverpool, Chelsea outspending us. But we have improved our team. Eboue’s gonna be effective out on the right this season. Sagna will be more effective than Eboue at RB, Clichy’s always gets by his marker when advancing up the left wing, although his crossing needs work. Whadya think…
108. Parks | August 4th, 2007 at 10:00 pm
I love Clichy
109. ZM10! | August 4th, 2007 at 10:01 pm
Clichy is god! Ok VP scored it but clichy’s run n pass were AMAZING!!
110. guzeppe | August 4th, 2007 at 10:03 pm
Exactly Signor Texas gunner. I agree with you. But there are some so called supporters who would like to see Casillas in goal plus 11 Ronaldinhos on the pitch who run rings around the opponents all day and are not satisfied until we win every game 10-0 by the 15th minute. You have made very valuable points and I for one would rather have Eboue on the right than Lennon. Lennon is good but Eboue has more speed and raw power which translates into strength. That can help Eboue more especially in recovery terms and in one on one situations. Remember the game against inter…..they could only foul him to stop him.
111. Freddy Adu | August 4th, 2007 at 10:05 pm
another broken foot for RVP..

The whole Ajax team are a bunch of cynical cunts
115. gunzor | August 4th, 2007 at 10:08 pm
do you think rvp is badly injured? heitinga kicked him on the foot, what sort of injury could he be getting.
116. Word -is-Bond | August 4th, 2007 at 10:09 pm
Clichy! My oh my, the boy’s got pace….and stamina in bundles. He created that goal by himself - RvP just finished it with typical aplomb
117. Word -is-Bond | August 4th, 2007 at 10:10 pm
RvP is OK, thank god. Heitinga is a cunt, but I’d welcome someone like him in our team though.
118. guzeppe | August 4th, 2007 at 10:11 pm
SSSSSSSSSSSiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. Buona notte a tutti
119. Freddy Adu | August 4th, 2007 at 10:11 pm
the physio’s looked pretty frantic and worried as they were taking him off.. rvp motioned immediately that he couldn’t continue.
suddenly top 8 seems to be a more realistic goal for arsenal.
120. ................. | August 4th, 2007 at 10:12 pm
hleb was nothing short of pathetic 2nite
121. Good to be a GOONAH!! | August 4th, 2007 at 10:14 pm
THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we won another match in a tasty fixture… Clichy is CLEARLY shit… and RVP is no Henry…
WE NEED SIGNINGS… our defence was TERRIBLE tonight in conceding little….
morons
122. Flu0 | August 4th, 2007 at 10:16 pm
I don’t think rvp’s injury was serious. Just to run down the clock to get back at the ajax players. Hleb did alrite for me on the left flank, but clichy was amazing. 2 bursts down the left frank tonite, we dun nid cuntley. Fuck the ajax players. Fucking downright dirty players im glad rvp had the last laugh. Oh yea im very impressed by eduardo, yet again.
123. Word -is-Bond | August 4th, 2007 at 10:16 pm

127. WillyG | August 4th, 2007 at 10:27 pm
RVP is fine,we won again away to Ajax,Eduardo impressed again.I thought that even Eboue was good on the right.Still I think we need to add a winger and were off to the new season.
128. Osaka Jap | August 4th, 2007 at 10:29 pm
wawawiwaaa….what a game!
2 things though
we still need a winger…Eboue is too indisciplined. He narrowed play too often
two….we’ll get too many red cards in the premiership LOL but atleast we are commited. Boy was that a champions league game or what?!
Proud to be a gooner!
129. ................. | August 4th, 2007 at 10:30 pm
have mix fellings about the game. but if u think about it we have just gone in their back yard and played them, they created nothing! denilson was superb!
130. WillyG | August 4th, 2007 at 10:32 pm
Some off you guys are never happy. If we lose you moan,if we draw you moan,if we win a tough pre-season match to Ajax you moan. Then when for example last season when Utd were shit vs Fulham and won, some of you guys were saying coz they have a winning mentality yet your team won and was not as bad.yet you moan and moan and moan and the season has not started yet
131. Simmzy | August 4th, 2007 at 10:32 pm
Is RVP alright?
132. naz | August 4th, 2007 at 10:34 pm
what was the score between arsenal and ajax
133. WillyG | August 4th, 2007 at 10:34 pm

134. WillyG | August 4th, 2007 at 10:35 pm
1-0 arsenal.RVP 87min
135. ................. | August 4th, 2007 at 10:39 pm
denilson wot a player. and i know their centre back was a dirty fuck but wouldnt mind signing him up!
136. WillyG | August 4th, 2007 at 10:41 pm
Did some of you guys expect us to win 3-0? or dominate the game? why are some of you moaning?
137. ................. | August 4th, 2007 at 10:49 pm
i’m with u willy g, we played in their own back yard they created very little and they kicked the shit out of us! if we cant enjoy it when we win god knows how much people will moan when we lose.
138. Rabbi Savvy | August 4th, 2007 at 10:50 pm
good win but i think creativity falls down a notch without cesc. great run br clichy…i think the team is a bit rusty and there is scope for big improvement in co-ordination in the final third. ajax created very little but good to see arsenal win a feisty one..
139. ................. | August 4th, 2007 at 10:56 pm
if you were to analyse the game tonite you would say that the team requires a bit more experience in midfiled, more creativity in midfield and finally a physical presence upfront? enter gilberto, fabregas and adebayor….sorted.
140. Osaka Jap | August 4th, 2007 at 10:59 pm
We WON full stop.period.
No BUTS. Jeez what do people want?! When we get kicked off the pack they fret. When we lose they fret.
138. You surely know you can’t play flowing football when your opponents resort to professional fouls all game long! I just wish people can their cynicism. How can one be an arsenal fan when they grudgingly acknowledge a victory obtained in very difficult circumstances?! Put everything in context people.
Willy G… I’ll celebrate with you. WE WON END OF!
141. gazzap | August 4th, 2007 at 11:00 pm
i think its clear the midfield without Gilberto will be fab and denilson. lack of size in the premiership tho. Eboue And Ros winger and Edu and RVP up top seems the obvious team. Hleb is a central player not a winger.
Agree with WillyG, we cant moan having won yet another game. Its hard to win any game and not concede against a team like Ajax in their own backyard.
142. Osaka Jap | August 4th, 2007 at 11:01 pm
139
Cheers. No use making useless criticisms. Does my head in.
143. WillyG | August 4th, 2007 at 11:04 pm
In our last 4 friendly matches we beat PSG,Inter,Lazio and Ajax not a bad way to face Fulham next week is it?
144. Osaka Jap | August 4th, 2007 at 11:06 pm
Gazzap… I don’t recall an instance where Denilson’s height was a cause for concern in THIS match; the whole match. I anything I say him make defensive, clearance HEADERS out jumping people! And he can tackle too. And as far as I know, he’s not exactly a lillipitian com[pared to cesc so what is the point?! Yes he’s not as creative as cesc but to me he’s a Hybrid. I like the boy.
145. WillyG | August 4th, 2007 at 11:10 pm
anyone saw on Arsenal Tv online, what Wenger`s after comments where?
146. Osaka Jap | August 4th, 2007 at 11:10 pm
Sorry Gazzap I think I must have missed your point. Yes the 2 of them together might be a problem. I think we saw that last year. I don’t even know if Diaby / Cesc is the answer. Maybe AW will play the Flamster.
Just wondering Gazzap, who do you think is a better tackler, Diaby, Falmster or Denilson? my head says play Cesc and Denilson. I think AW will be more pragmatic here though. Beauty and the Beast. So my bet if Cesc/Flamster to start on sunday
147. Rabbi Savvy | August 4th, 2007 at 11:12 pm
cesc and denilson together is unlikely… diaby or flamini will come in place of gilberto. eboue on right, rosicky on left.. Adebayor and RvP upfront.
148. qobby | August 4th, 2007 at 11:16 pm
We won and i am glad although it’s only pre season. Good to have a winning streak. I think our forwards need to shoot more. HLEB PLS PLS SHOOT THE BALL WHEN U HAVE THE CHANCE…..GOD U ALMOST BROUGHT ME TO TEARS WHEN U MISSED THAT GLARING CHANCE.
Clichy is a super player….would be way better than Ashley Cunt. I think Eduardo is a good player and would some time would gel very well with the squad. Can’t wait to see him click with RVP and make defences look silly. And again HLEB SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT PLS. U KILLING US.
149. paulie | August 4th, 2007 at 11:20 pm
121 i rest my case, total plonker
150. Osaka Jap | August 4th, 2007 at 11:21 pm
147 Rabbi
I agree with your midfield suggestions. I think (as Ade won’t start against Fulham) it will be Helb behind RVP.
BTW if Dudu can play on ther left did AW not play him there and leave Helb behind RVP when Rosicky was subbed. Instead Hleb was moved to the wing. He’s a puzzle that Helb coz he blows hot and cold all the time. Why in the name of the God WON’T the boy shoot?!
151. Osaka Jap | August 4th, 2007 at 11:24 pm
LOL Gobby. Do you think we should cane him so he gets the point?
152. paulie | August 4th, 2007 at 11:28 pm
im embarassed by some of our comments. it was a fuckin friendly tournament. it was a pre season holiday for all these teams. they didnt give a fuck. get a fucking grip. only good thing is that eduardo looks good. but wenger is still an aragont cunt and good to be a gunner is still a silly cunt who keeps on saying the sky is falling, why dont you change your name to the sky is falling cause you say it in almost every fuckin post you twat, its boring like you are

157. Grandizer | August 4th, 2007 at 11:37 pm
tonight performance:
Lehmann 6 - little to do, but some good saves but handling was a bit suspect at times
Clichy 8 - good defensively, and fantastic run at the end to set up van persie
Toure 7 - good defensively, should of scored,
Gallas 7 - solid in defense
Sagna 7 - good defensively and strong in the tackle
Rosicky 4 - doesnt look match fit, couldnt get in the game
Denilson 9 - Man of the Match, brillant display, great tackling and passing, cant believe is this good at 19!
Flamini 7 - good workrate but let temper get the better of him on occasions, good backup
Eboue 6 - good going forward, getting better in his new position, decision making needs to improve, acts like an idiot at times and got stupid yellow card
Hleb 6 - good at the beginning with neat touches but faded away, and got pushed off the ball to easily, decision making is poor (when to shoot, when to pass)
Van Persie 7 - good finish for the goal, lead the attack well, but let the Ajax players wind him up to easily and got silly yellow card
Eduardo - looked excellent when came on, and nearly scored
Hoyte - no time to make impact
Overall a good performance, despite Ajax trying to kick us off the pitch. Were looking good as a team. A quality winger is still needed, and the defense still looks unstable at times, Huntelaar nearly scored at the end because gallas and toure couldnt match him in the air, reminded me of times last season when we played so well only to switch off on occasions which usually lead to us conceding. Positives would have to be Sagna, Denilson Eduardo and Clichys performances.

Wenger has played down any transfers before the window, saying the usual we had Gilberto,Song,Diaby not playing vs Ajax…..but also said we are not sleeping(which means he is looking at someone surely) lets wait a see.I still hope he buys a good winger but any hope of Quaresma are dead in my opinion(its only us fans who wanted the guy as only Liverpool have been linked)

Quote:
I am a Gooner and work for a sunday tabloid. Our main backpage story is that Arsenal have bid for Porto’s Portuguese left winger Ricardo Quaresma.
The story started in a daily Portuguese sports paper, Primeiro AuroeSport. They have close links to Porto and say talks with the English club had started in May but only after the Reyes sale Arsenal were in a position to give a firm offer.
The players agent Diogo Flores refused to confirm the club but hinted Quaresma may have played his last game for Porto -
‘Ricardo’s future is not decided but will close this week. Many of Europe’s champion clubs have bid and offers have been accepted. We have rejected the option of Russia , Germany and France as Ricardo believes his future will be England or Spain with the great players. ‘
The opening offer was £12 million and midfielder Flamini. Porto demanded £15 million which Arsenal have now matched through a number of clauses. Arsène Wenger had wanted the deal done before Robben had decided his future as both Real Madrid and Chelsea are aware of Quaresma.
A side story Chelsea will not let Diarra join Arsenal, we have an interview with Jose Mourinho who closes the matter.

Diarra must be given a permanent start in the squad to get used to playing alongside new team mates. All of them do really. A permanent first side must be chosen and play along side each other all the time barring injury. It is a team game and the team performs only when they constantly play alongside each other!
Wenger has no idea of team play. He can ID talent, but he knows nothing of forming and keeping a team together. Player in, player out next week, different combinations. Players bought one year and pissing off the next, especially forteign ones.
How many more fucking draws are our “talented” players going to get this year ?
When is someone going to each the players to shoot instinctiively, instead on measuring and dancing around the wide open goal.
I am convinced football players aren’t as talented as made out and they are far too expensive to buy, which effects the wallet of the poor bastard taking his kids to the game!
Fuck expensive foreign players, get rid of them
