Lassana Diarra didn’t fly with Chelsea to Brondby

0 guns July 31st, 2007

When Abou Diaby signed for Arsenal, he made no secret of that fact he had turned down Chelsea to do so. Many pundits were surprised that Jose Mourinho was interested in introducing the powerful Frenchman to a squad already packed with International midfielders. But Mourinho, whatever you may think of him, is no fool, and in Diaby he saw 50% of France’s future midfield partnership.

Diaby’s career has already been paralleled with that of current France captain, Patrick Vieira: a significant compliment. But behind every great player is a man who gives him the platform on which to perform his heroics. These figures are often the less heralded of the pair – Adams had his Bould, Wright and Henry had Bergkamp, and when at Arsenal, Vieira had Emmanuel Petit and then Gilberto Silva. And with France, he had perhaps the greatest exponent of this art alongside him: Claude Makelele.

Lassana Diarra is essentially Makelele Mk II. Both Diarra and Diaby received their first call-ups to the senior France squad towards the end of last season, and manager Domenech has been fairly unequivocal about his hopes for the youngsters to replace the great pair of Vieira and Makelele. It was this potential partnership that was in Mourinho’s mind when he moved for Diaby. And it might be the same idea that is leading Arsene Wenger to reignite his interest in a player he first pursued more than two years ago.

Diarra is a quality player. Last season he excelled for Chelsea in midfield and at right-back. My brother is a season ticket holder, and often he would report that Diarra had been the best player on the pitch. He’s a neat passer with a tremendous engine and surprisingly tough tackling for one so small.

What is odd about this transfer is that Diarra plays primarily in positions that we are already well covered in. We’ve got so many right-backs and central midfielders that we’ve started playing them on the wing. Perhaps in Diarra Wenger sees a genuine holding midfield player - a back-up for Gilberto that currently we don’t quite have.

It may just be that he doesn’t want to miss out on an opportunity to sign an International class player for a fee of around £2m. Diarra’s contract expires next summer, so his market value is at an all time bargain low.

Or, of course, it could just be meaningless media talk. But I can tell you for a fact that Diarra was last night a late withdrawal from the Chelsea squad that travelled to Brondby. Still, it’s hard to get too excited in a Summer where we’ve been duped by misleading transfer stories again and again. Let’s wait and see.

One transfer saga that has finally been wrapped up is that of Jose Reyes. It’s been a long goodbye, except instead of blowing kisses we’ve mostly been flipping the finger at a player who has agitated for a permanent move back to the Spanish capital for nearly two years now. After he threatened to scream and scream until he was sick, he finally got his way, and he’s now an Atletico player. I expect we’ll never quite know what the fee was, but you can be sure we made a loss on a player who seemed to give up on a career in England the first time the sun disappeared behind a cloud.

Arsenal.com are great value.  Yesterday they published a story saying Kieran Gibbs had joined Southend, only to be later change the story to feature Kerrea Gilbert.  Well, it is indeed Gilbert who has gone on a six month loan.  Part of me would be surprised if we saw the 20-year old in an Arsenal shirt again, though the length of the deal allows room for Gilbert to return when Toure and Eboue head to the African Nations Cup.

That’s all for now.  Our transfer profit for this Summer is now in the £10-15m bracket.  Let’s hope it’s not by the end of the month.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_city/6918718.stm

    A couple extracts:

A leading human rights group has written to the Premier League to challenge Thaksin Shinawatra’s right to own Manchester City.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) claims Thaksin is “a human rights abuser of the worst kind” and should not have passed the league’s ‘fit and proper person’ test.

Thaksin, the Thai prime minister from 2001 to 2006, denies the allegations.

“Under any definition, I don’t see how Thaksin can be fit and proper,” HRW’s Brad Adams told BBC Sport

The allegations against Thaksin are that, during his time as Thai prime minister, he:

Presided over extrajudicial killings during the notorious “war on drugs”. HRW says 2,500 people were killed during one three-month period at the start of 2003.

Told the Thai military to employ any means to suppress an insurgency in the south of Thailand.

    Suppressed the Thai media.

    ———————-
Now if this counts as a “fit and proper person”, no wonder our league is so fucked. Why the fuck can’t the FA just stand up and tell these people to fuck off? Or just tell United to give West Ham £30million and tell the agent to fuck off? Or ban all agents for that matter? Or tell Barca and Real to fuck off when tapping up players?

Big Business = Big Money = Big Scandal.

    Thats why Samuel.

  • 25. Samuel  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:30 am

i mean, it’s their fucking job to stand up and say when somethings wrong! and instead they just line their pockets with oilgarch and american money and become their yes men! Arsene got blamed for being the worst thing to happen to english football for fielding an all foreign team - well he also showed every team in england that being fat drunks isn’t going to get you anywhere and has more english players coming through the system than most of the premiership. argh, i’m pissed off.

  • 26. Bergy  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:31 am

Why sign another cm? When clearly our biggest need is a winger. 2m might be ok 4 him but we must get a winger

  • 27. Well-endowed gooner  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:31 am

I’d buy Lassana Diarra. He’s the ideal replacement for Reyes. Although, with our surfeit of central midfielders, we should probably get them to play piggyback.

  • 28. Darkins  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:33 am

Why? we have Diaby, Gelbs, Denilson, Fabs and Flamini all play in the centre where the hell would we fit this guy. All we need is a fucking winger, I’d love to see Anelka back in an Arsenal shirt aswell.

  • 29. arnold  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:33 am

lassana diarra will sign for arsenal as well arsene might turn luka modric as winger if both are duo to come

  • 30. Samuel  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:34 am

Dolomite: Not necessarily. If Ringo Starr wanted to buy Everton or Liverpool, he’d be able to buy it outright and not be a cunt that killed thousands of people! How hard is that:

Interview for if you are a fit and proper person:
    +Have you ever killed anyone?
    -Yes.
    +How many?
-Like 3,000! And i’m getting done on corruption charges too.
+Umm, sorry, we can’t let you take over City.
    -I’ll get you shot too.
+Ok, go for it. Couldn’t do us a favour for letting you through and take Sven off our hands though, you don’t have a manager.
-Sure. I’m still taking your kneecaps though.

  • 31. G4L_Harry  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:35 am

Well it was a one word answer, its hard to see why we need him and surely he’ll be a bit part player, exactly why hes leaving chelski.
If indeed wenger sees a future partnership in there, then maybe as he is at a low premium. But surely that would spell the end of Flamini?

All we need is a sparky player who gets at teams and can lift a game with a moment of brillance, preferrably left sided dominant. If you gave one choice right now, it would have to be robinho.

  • 32. Samuel  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:36 am

What was Diarra like going forward when he played right-back? (For a hypothetical Eboue style push up the wing?)

  • 33. Anthony  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:36 am

for 2m u cant say no, even if he were 5m i’d sign him, he is a quality player, plus he’s french so thats a + for arsene

  • 35. Samuel  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:38 am

G4L - I don’t get it though, Flamini has been a lot more involved in the friendlies, as has Denilson, and Hleb in a central role. We don’t even know where we will play the players we’ve got, let alone another centre or two (Diarra and Modric).

  • 36. DolomiteVictorious.  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:38 am

All I want is a player that will enhance the team, not be another ‘option’. Diarra has nothing new to offer the current team.

    Samuel,

We’re still talking big bucks here. Big money has the ability to erase most wrongdoing in most parts of the world.

A simple by product of Capitalism and as evidenced by the Abramovichs’, Berenovskys etc and any one with a few billion quid to spare.

  • 37. Romford Pele  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:40 am

I remember being impressed with diarra during the carling cup final, but surely we’d be buying him as a central midfielder.

For me this would spell the end of Alexander Song at least. Flamini I thought was great against Inter - he makes a lot of excellent forward runs for a supposedly defensive player

  • 38. DolomiteVictorious.  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:41 am

    Denilson = Fabregas

    Flamini/Diaby = Gilberto

    Hleb= Rosicky

Thats why I think we dont need Diarra.

  • 39. Samuel  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:44 am

I think it is because he is a versatile player with strong links to Diaby that he’d be coming. Wenger loves those kinda things, and just for the price of one of the other kids we got rid of.
Our squad is too small but in the positions he is played we are too full - so the only thing I could think is long term replacement for Gilberto (but then he’s got longer to wait than for Makelele to retire) or to be applied somewhere else. Could he be converted as CB like Toure was or a RM like Eboue is?

  • 40. berry  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:45 am

yes hes a good player i think and a good replacement for gilberto something we aint got…… got to many attacking midfeilders we need players for them bolton and blackburn games

  • 41. Samuel  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:47 am

Ok, Dolomite, but what if he and Kia are sent down on their seperate charges? Money won’t stop that.

(With Kia I guess he would just lose control of Tevez to West Ham so it could happen a lot easier and his box at Emirates)

  • 42. guzeppe  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:51 am

Diarra, Nzogbia and Neri Castillo. All three together would cost around11million. I think that we would all like them. And let’s face it…..even of we have enough central midfielders to play 1-8-1 formation at 2million anoyone would be a fool to turn him down when you know that next summer all hell will break loose on Fabregas from Real and Barcelona. Think ahead mates. I would not like to see Cesc leave but getting good value for him (around 25-30mill) and having Diarra,Diaby,Denilson,Rosicky,Hleb,Gilberto all playing for 2 or 3 midfield places leaves AFC well covered. I repeat I do not want to see Cesc leave but AW must be ready for this scenario. What say you all?

  • 43. Romford Pele  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:53 am

Diaby is an attacking midfielder, he is not a holding player

  • 44. TopCat  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:53 am

Diarra would be one for a few years time - If we can get him for 2m, then that is great business.

And when Diaby/Fabregas/Gilberto pick up injuries, its good cover.

  • 45. Samuel  |  July 31st, 2007 at 9:59 am

  • 46. berry  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:00 am

diarra and charles n zogbia would be good cheap signings n zogbia is like reyes and robinho very fast aswell would do well for us

  • 47. Samuel  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:01 am

Now, I know this may be keeeeeerazy, but I may, just may, not think N’Zogbia fulfills our ’super, super class player’ target.

  • 48. guzeppe  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:04 am

I agree with you Samuel, but he is mentioned for AFC. I personally would like to see Castillo or Moura Kerlon. Robiinho would be better but he would cost too much from those piss takers RM who still want to get back at AW for selling them Le sulk for 23.5mill.

  • 49. TopCat  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:05 am

Guzeppe - FYI Castilli alone was 11m!!!!

So methinks you are a bit off the mark !

Olympiacos have cashed in on striker Nery Castillo after agreeing to sell the Mexico starlet, who has been linked with Manchester City, to Shakhtar Donetsk.

The 23-year-old forward, who played a starring role for Mexico as they reached the semi-finals of this summer’s Copa America, has opted to join Mircea Lucescu’s Ukrainian champions for a reported £10.8million on a lucrative four-year contract.

Castillo added: “I agreed terms with Shakhtar, I do not want to say anything else right now.

    .

I did not know that topcat. thanks for keeping me up to date.

  • 51. TopCat  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:08 am

    This is fucking hilarious…..

Same old Chelsea - think the rules don’t apply to them!!!!

CHELSEA were stunned last night after their Brazilian star Alex was barred from entering Britain.

Immigration officials refused to let the defender through customs at Heathrow Airport because he has no work permit.

Alex is now 6,000 miles away back in Brazil and facing an uncertain future in the Premier League over the blunder.

A Home Office statement read: “Visitors to the UK need to be aware they will be subject to checks before being granted entry to this country.”

The 25-year-old flew into London on Sunday night and told the authorities he was planning to join up with his Chelsea team-mates after spending the past three years on loan at PSV Eindhoven.

But the stunned ace got no further than Passport Control because his documents did not come up to scratch. Non-EU players require a work permit to play in Britain.

Under joint FA and Home Office rules, they must have played 75 per cent of their home country’s full internationals during the past two years to qualify.

Alex signed for Chelsea in 2004 for £7.8million from Santos but was farmed out immediately to PSV in Holland.

He has appeared for Brazil in only eight of the last 14 matches for which he was available — less than 60 per cent.

He was held up for four hours at immigration and would have been let in had he just been visiting.

But he then boarded a flight home in a hugely embarrassing mix-up by the Blues.

Despite signing Tal Ben Haim, Chelsea need more back-up in defence after offloading Khalid Boulahrouz to Seville.

Chelsea can appeal against the decision within the next 28 days.

Last night they issued a statement insisting: “At airport immigration there was a request to clarify Alex’s current status. All of the paperwork for his entry was in order.

“After an initial delay he was cleared to enter the country. He chose voluntarily to fly back but will return when necessary.”

  • 52. TopCat  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:09 am

As far as I know Castillo was only signed today/yesterday for Shaktar.

    11M - again a bit steep….

1 more left winger off the market….

  • 53. Samuel  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:10 am

Although I thought N’Zogbia was a lot older than he was - a 21 year old French dude out of favour is where Wenger makes classic players. I’ve just always thought he was a bit rub, but he is definitly a winger, would link up with ol’ French Gael…

Maybe, just maybe… WE NEED TO SIGN A FUCKING AWESOME FONZI-SIZED DUDE OF A WINGER SO I STOP THINKING OF THESE RUBBISH POSSIBILITIES…

  • 54. guzeppe  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:14 am

Hey mates. Go on youtube and type the name Marcus Kaasa. and see a ten year old do some tricks with the ball. And he is even wearing an AFC shirt with no14……….!!! You’ll be amazed

  • 57. guzeppe  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:18 am

Maybe, maybe. Seeing as we are always signing them when young. Anyone has a pack of nappies available.

  • 58. Dick (aka Willy)  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:26 am

Reyes is a cunt. I know we had our reasons for letting him go on the cheap, but I still think we should have held out for just a little more.

No, NO and NOOOOOOO to N’Zogbia - not good enough and deceivingly slow.

SWP, Quaresma, Nasri or Ray Parlour.

  • 59. Samuel  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:29 am

fucking hell, can we sign someone already?

  • 60. Dick (aka Willy)  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:33 am

    “43. Romford Pele | July 31st, 2007 at 9:53 am
Diaby is an attacking midfielder, he is not a holding player”

I actually agree with there, RP. Whenever he plays he spends most of his time surging into the opposition’s half. He does remind me of Vieira, though, and does carry most of his defensive qualities too. Diaby seems the inverted divide of Vieira’s defensive/offensive percentages; whereas 75% of Vieira’s contribution was breaking up opposition play the other 25% was - once he’d won the ball - surging forward through the midfield and picking out a killer pass. That’s one thing I always respected about Vieira - a defensive midfielder who preferred to pass forward rather than backwards or sideways. He definitely had an attacking eye. Diaby seems to opposite of these percentiles; 25% of his game spent of winning the ball, 75% spent doing something with it, creating opportunities or dragging it wide (one thing that Vieira hardly ever did) and taking on the full-back.

I like Diaby a lot and think he should definitely start the season alongside Cesc whilst Gilberto is away.

  • 61. berry  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:34 am

n zogbia at newcastle hates it there we were intrested in him before but always had that position covered good buy for 4 million we aint got long now to get a winger i thought we would get stuck in today on the transfers come on diarra join the best team in london the future is red and white

  • 62. Dick (aka Willy)  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:36 am

  • 65. berry  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:39 am

diaby loses the ball to mush diarra is better suited with fab more cover when fab goes forward diarra is more mobile

  • 66. Ash  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:40 am

Diarra for £2m is a steal but am sure Chelsea can find another buyer for him. Could be a good signing despite us being well covered. Where does that leave Denilson though. Diaby-Diarra would work well for France but we play a different game

  • 67. Ruralgoon  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:41 am

    Morning!

Diarra is a bloody good player and a battler. If he really is up for grabs at £2mil we ought to buy him. The other midfielders we have are versatile enough to play in multiple positions. The other factor is that it would enable us to keep the midfield engine fresh; considering that the majority of our good play starts here, it needs to have that freshness to give us the edge we need.

  • 68. Ric-Dizzle  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:42 am

wedont need any central midfielder except flamini is out.. or song’s goign on loan. i think its the latter

  • 69. Ruralgoon  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:48 am

Radical suggestion for the day; Mathieu Flamini for captain!!!!

  • 70. Forrest  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:50 am

Diarra didn’t fly to Brondby because he got injured in training.

  • 71. Samuel  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:58 am

    Good morn’ Rural!

Can Diarra play RM or CB?

  • 72. besor  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:58 am

buy diarra or whoever as long as we buy 1 or 2 winger as well. decent available winger getting few in the market. when wenger goin to make his move? Ideally, he should sign someone before ajax tournament so that the new player can player together with his /their new team mate.

  • 73. mr serge  |  July 31st, 2007 at 11:07 am

rural very radical he needs to be a regular to be captain

diarra can play cm or rb why would we want him?

  • 74. mr serge  |  July 31st, 2007 at 11:09 am

diaby is not a holder he is not like vieira except in stature, he is an attacking midfielder who can play wide left if you need him to, i think he is a fantastic player

  • 75. Afro-Gooner  |  July 31st, 2007 at 11:15 am

Diarra can give us more depth in the squad & can also be played at RB with Eboue now a winger.

  • 76. Nacer  |  July 31st, 2007 at 11:25 am

    Diarra..
    why do we need him???
spose its a good deal for 2mil.
    ide rather modric any day!
N’Zogbia is shite why o why are people wanting him play for the goonaz..
he’s not worthy to wear a red and white shirt!

  • 77. Ruralgoon  |  July 31st, 2007 at 11:27 am

Samuel; I’m pretty sure He’s filled in at both positions for the chavs last season… I’m almost certain he did a stint at centre back after Terry got injured.

I know the Flamster would have to be a regular… I think he should be… just dont ask who I’d leave out to accomodate him, cos I really dont know what our best midfield actually is :-)

  • 78. Columbo M  |  July 31st, 2007 at 11:33 am

Hello Rural… I’d be very surprised if Diarra has ever played CB, unless it was for an under 9’s team. He’s the chav’s shortest player since John Spencer.

  • 79. Ruralgoon  |  July 31st, 2007 at 11:37 am

Mavis; He definitely DID… I remember seeing him there. Might’ve been when Carvalho and Terry were out, they had no-one else who could play there, and he did a great job… positionally good, strong in the tackle without doing anything rash to give away set pieces. If he was 6 ft +, he’d be mega money.

  • 80. Columbo M  |  July 31st, 2007 at 11:41 am

Fair enough! He’s defintely a strong in the tackle. Although he does have the tendency to body check players as well. He did it at least 3 times in the CC final and I thought he was lucky not to get sent off for two yellows… It could have changed everything!

Is it just my PC, or is this blog very slow this morning?

I ate oysters drank champagne and shacked the girlfriend….and now i see that cunt Reyes were sold……..what a day !!!!!

  • 83. El Tommo  |  July 31st, 2007 at 11:50 am

We currently have ONE natural holding midfielder - Gilberto.

Diaby, Flamini, Denilson or Song cannot be described as naturals in that role. They all can do a destruction job in midfield but they all like to get forward as well and the balance is tilted towards attacking in their games [Song - not sure what he's about but anyway ...]. Therefore Diarra makes complete sense to me as a perfect number two to Gilberto. At that price we’d be stupid not to buy him - I just find it hard to believe Chelsea would sell him to us!

As we seem to be central midfield heavy perhaps our future formation is going to be 451?

  • 84. davey b  |  July 31st, 2007 at 11:54 am

i dont think we need diarra because ,flamini ,diaby ,denilson are not dmf in my opinion but if schole’s and carrick can hold the man utd midfeild then i think it show’s that there’s to much emphasis placed on having a true holding player like dacourt, makelele, gattuso etc id rather play with a dmf with more ability who is not as good posistionally like xabi alonso ,carrick ,xavi ,de rossi

our midfeild would be fine anchored by either denilson ,diaby denilson might be small but makelele is ‘nt the biggest is he

  • 85. Danish Gooner  |  July 31st, 2007 at 11:55 am

Lassana Diarra will be a king for Arsenal but Are the russians stupid enough to sell him to us.

  • 86. Columbo M  |  July 31st, 2007 at 11:56 am

Tommo - I’m also surprised that Chelsea would sell to us. Also, if Wenger’s that keen on the player, and the player wants to sign for us, there must have been direct contact behind the scenes. Therefore, why not get his word that he’ll come to us next summer and get him for nowt?

  • 87. Danish Gooner  |  July 31st, 2007 at 11:58 am

Diarra is a natural midfield enforcer flamini are not……….so we could actually end up having a very technical and rough housing midfield.

  • 88. Danish Gooner  |  July 31st, 2007 at 11:59 am

schole’s carrick ,gilberto, fabregas ,denilson diaby ,fabregas denilson ,

any combination we use is as good as that and they won the league with those two achoring the midfeild ,we dont need diarra

  • 93. mark  |  July 31st, 2007 at 12:05 pm

the reason why chelsea would sell to us is because they do not consider us a challenge this season.

    and we are not.

but we will be back with new backers and dein the season after next.

thats what arsenes meeting was about with dein.

  • 94. Word -is-Bond  |  July 31st, 2007 at 12:08 pm

2 mill for a utility player, potentially word-class like lassie is a no brainer.

we might not need him now, but he will be useful as the season grinds on…injuries, cup competitions etc.

  • 95. davey b  |  July 31st, 2007 at 12:10 pm

diarra is okay but nothing special he played against england in the qualifying for the u 21 championship’s he looked average the side had ribery ,fauber in it the only thing he did of any note was to dive in the box to knock england out and send france to the final’s

  • 96. red25  |  July 31st, 2007 at 12:11 pm

as someone mentioned earlier - we gotta plan for the likelihood that cesc will be flying the nest sooner rather than later. at 2mill diarra would be a bargain - and, don’t forget gilberto is entering his 30s - which is forbidden at our club…..

and, while i’m on - quarema would be the icing on the cake… the player to give us an edge. phuck it - let’s go for it…

  • 106. rocky pires  |  July 31st, 2007 at 12:23 pm

i think the reason were after diara is cause theres no gilberto at the start of the sason . the same start of the season where we fell so far behind last season and in order to counter act losing points well purchase diarra.
    start of season no gilberto
    Midfield
    _____________Diarra-
    ————cesc——Diaby—
    Rosicky————————-Hleb
    ___________RVP

    Tough away games
    ————–Diarra_Gilberto-
    Rosicky———-Cesc———-Hleb
    ——————-RVP
IMO song out, flamini as fullback cover ( if he stays)
Denilson allowed to develop and shares cesc role as not to burn cesc out. Diarra as gilberto replacement and starts along side him for tough away games. Diaby is an attacking mid occuping central role and also left side

  • 107. Dick (aka Willy)  |  July 31st, 2007 at 12:25 pm

Davey B - don’t forget, when Diarra played in that u-21 game he was 2 years younger than most of his team-mates. Ribery and Faubert are 24 - Diarra only turned 22 in March. I remember he was a late call-up for that game after impressing for both the u-19’s and u-20’s. I don’t necessarily think we NEED him - but he would be a good player to have.

Flamini has decided to stay for now - but once a player shows a desire to leave, there’s always the chance he may want to go again in the future.

Song did okay at Charlton, but never done much for us (in the Fulham game he was AWFUL!).

Gilberto is coming up to 31 - two more seasons as a regular then I think he will take on more of a squad role.

Leaving Cesc (who’s gonna go to either Barca or Real Madrid within the next three years) and Diaby as our only young, reliable options for the central midfield berths.

Therefore, Diarra doesn’t seem such a bad investment - at £2M - afterall.

  • 108. Kenyan Gooner  |  July 31st, 2007 at 12:25 pm

When AW said sth about signing a player or 2, he surely meant that a player is a replacement 4 reyes(u wil all know him by friday) n the 2nd player he thinks about is most probably Diarra, dat is,if chelski allow him 2 join the mighty gooners. For dat one player i wud place my bet on either modric or quaresma though wennger can still pull out a surprise. + y d hel is everybody talkin bot Nzogbia? he is crap!!!!
So wat u say guys?modric or quaresma??

  • 118. davey b  |  July 31st, 2007 at 12:49 pm

song ,hoyte, maybe senderos yeah, not gilberto ,adebayor

  • 119. davey b  |  July 31st, 2007 at 12:57 pm

the thing with gilberto he may be approaching the end of his career but he’s a plyer that does’nt really rely on mobility more on position if you ask gilberto to be a strictly defensive midfeilder and not venture foward at all to save his leg’s ,he can do it remember the bernabeu he shadowed zidane out the game that night and was probably arsenal’s unsung hero in the CL run

  • 120. UpMyAntics  |  July 31st, 2007 at 12:59 pm

No way can you leave out hoyte, the boy is arsenal till he dies and more importantly he plays the football that we need - a defensive full back. yes sagna may be better - but he cant play everygame. yes we could move toure or johan into RB but if eboue is really getting pushed up to wing then we havent got the ample cover that people seem to think we have.

  • 121. davey b  |  July 31st, 2007 at 1:08 pm

hoyte is poor, arsenal through and through flamini is just as much an arsenal man as hoyte only he’s better at doing hoyte’s job than hoyte is and he dont even play there

ashley cole was arsenal through and through ,just like TH14

I’d like to know how Arsenal’s WAGs rate alongside the WAGs of the other Big Four. I’m concerned that the only justifiably babelicious Arsenal WAG is Melanie Slade, and I feel kind of guilty about that because Theo’s just a kid. Do the rest of our squad have good looking better-halves?

I’m serious. I found a WAGs website the other day, and it got me thinking. Gerrardl has Alex Curran, Rooney’s got Coleen McSomething, and even You-Know-Who has Cheryl Tweedy. We used to have the ultra-classy Mrs Henry (what’s her name again?), but right now, we’ve got nothing.

Tell your son that Henry’s pushing 30, he’s old, injury-prone and can’t hack it in the premier league anymore. Say he’s a crap captain who’s been holding our youngsters back with his ultra-critical, narcissistic displays. Say he drove Reyes from the club, and was at risk of doing the same with van Persie. Say Arsenal’s better off without him.

Yes, your son will weep, run out of the room and cry himself to sleep hugging his Henry doll. Yes, he’ll resent you for the rest of your life, harbor a deep-seated urge to kill you, and dump you in the nearest retirement home once you hit 65.

But importantly, he’ll come to realise that you and Wenger were right, the club is bigger than the individual, and it was the right time for Henry to go. And he’ll still be a Arsenal supporter.

In the end, isn’t that all that matters?

Seriously though, I would be happy with

    MGP, Drenthe or Boa Morte

Boa Morte would have been good for us had he remained Pires’s backup

The resident Liverpool Fan had one mystery solved for him over the course of the Emirates cup; He’s always wondered just WHY ‘pool bought Djimi Traore. the answer is that the liverpool scouts got the wrong Traore… it should have been the one that played for PSG [or ours!!!]

  • 179. Columbo M  |  July 31st, 2007 at 1:55 pm

Frudicus - I don’t think Lita’s shite. Not necessarily “Arsenal class”, but could do a job as a back-up goal poacher. He’s only 21 and scored quite a few prem goal last season.

  • 180. Geekov  |  July 31st, 2007 at 1:55 pm

Nzogbia? Aaaaaaaaaaaagh…along with Martins and Diarra that is the most absurd transfer rumour I have heard all summer. WHY? Shit suggestion by some bloggers. Good suggestions?
    1) Mancini of Roma. Siiick.
    2) MG Pedersen. Knows PL.
    3) Drenthe. Boy’s class.
    4) Raf Van der Vaart. Though not an out and uot winger at all, he is a fucking good attacking option
    5) Diego of Werder. Quality and socres goals.

Would also like Mahmadou Diarra and Robinho.

But then again, I’d like a blow-job of Scarlett Johansson.

Lita for 7m, only if EDS does not get a work permit on Thursday.

Diarra could be true. chelsea dont have much choice. he is running down his contract and could come to us on a free next year, so the chavs just want some of our money now rather than none next year. gilberto is 30 and I think a year from now could start to see a change in that position. I would ideally take him next summer for free.

I dont rate N’Zogbia so please dont buy him AW. 5 goals in his entire newcastle career since 2004. Poor.

  • 209. mr serge  |  July 31st, 2007 at 2:35 pm

    What is Wenger’s winger wish-list ?
    By Myles Palmer

Some readers have asked what Wenger’s winger wish-list might be.

In May, it might have been this :

    1. Franck Ribery : went to Bayern in June for an initial £17.5 million. Arsene could not afford him.He wanted to come.He was what AW really, really wanted.A phenomenal player - brave, exciting, spectacular.

    2. Robinho would fit in well but he’s no finisher.

    3. Ricardo Quaresma will go to Arsenal or Liverpool for £12 million, at least.

    4. Royston Drenthe is gifted but unproven .

Myself, I’d sign Quaresma if I could afford him.

I’ve follow RQ’s career after seeing him score an amazing goal in a youth tournament. Like Simao, he went to Barcelona from Sporting too young and didn’t make it there and went back to Porto.Chunkily strong, he can hold off opponents as he dribbles and he can attack on both flanks, cross a decent ball, and hit swerving shots.

I like the boy a lot, partly because, for a winger, he’s a good team player, There’s more to come from him. His next move is the most important of his career and Arsenal would be better for him than Liverpool.

But - it has to be said - I’m biased towards Portugal, having had about 15 happy holidays there.

check this out for a foul!

  • 214. Garfield  |  July 31st, 2007 at 2:45 pm

Mancini is the man as mr Serge is right. Any offer above 9mil and Roman will SELL. Robinho would be nice but la-la land. P.S Can people PLEASE stop saying we ‘could not afford Ribery’? Ta. We got 16 mil from Thierry’s sale and other cash from Muamba, Ali, Stokes, Ljungberg - not to mention our transfer facility we had anyway.

Drenthe I like mind. But Mancini first-choice for me. Affordable and gettable. Quaresma I also like but Porto are cunts. They fleeced Real of 30 mil for Pepe and they will not let Quaresma go cheap. Anyway. Probably be beaten to his signature by Liverpool or sthg.

There’s a few tough teams in that. Let’s hope we get a shitter instead.

  • 228. Columbo M  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:08 pm

  • 243. Garfield  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:24 pm

Good To be a Gorilla, I love your debating style. Classic, original and infromative. Repeating the same catchphrase over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again…is….Great!
    THE SKY IS FALLING!
Actually I think you’ll find I never said such a thing. I am simply convinced our team is not strong enough to cope that’s all. If AW signs Mancini and Quaresma this week then sure that’ll all change.

  • 244. Frudicus  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:25 pm

240 - Just coz wenger doesnt like old wrinkley cocks doesnt mean hes sick. What you on about our youngsters are shit?? Walcott, Diaby, Denilson, Clichy, Traore, fabregas even flamini is allright. O yeah and Bendtner. You are a dumbass - jus remember that this team are gonna be together for a few years to come, and we will dominate - believe it or not!

    242. Romford Pele | July 31st, 2007 at 3:20 pm

so, let me get this straight. I make a post stating a few teams that we may face in the draw & say that id like to avoid them.

then u tell me to kill myself!!!

yeah great blog, even im getting fed up with these simple minds

  • 246. DeiseGooner  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:27 pm

IF and thats a big IF Diarra signs then i can only assume the folowing.

Song is no longer seen as worth keeping
Flamini will be off after this season (its the final year of his contract aint it ? )
Gilberto will have a good 2 seasons left as first choice holding midfielder.

Possible change then to 3 central midfielders. Diarra holding. Cesc as the playmaker. Diaby as the muscle and direct forward running.

  • 247. Samuel  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:27 pm

How awesome would it be to play FC Sheriff?

I would like Lita. Reading being my local team, I have noticed him being one of the players who has really been key to their success of the past two years. He is big, strong and yet quick. Reading also play a fast paced, attacking passing game (of which I assume comes from having a bunch of kids from our academy the past couple years) and he would fit in well. Would show we really are going for the 4-3-3, or just if Eduardo couldn’t make it.

Lita, Diarra, Mancini, Fabianski, Sagna, Eduardo de Silva? Would that list of players not show us that Arsene is determined to win?

  • 248. Columbo Mavis  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:29 pm

Garfield - You’re SURE our team isn’t good enough to beat Fenerbache, AEK Athens or Spartak Moscow over two legs, yet if we sign Mancini or Quaresma our ability to beat them will totally change. How do you work that out? What if these two amazing players had an off game (which even great players are capable of). You’re just speculating mate. Why not put some faith in the quality that we have?

  • 249. tom  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:29 pm

what in dreams. wengers is so sad sick he sold all our best playesr so he can fuck all the young boys. he only sold viera so he can fuck shit fabergas. fabergas is so shit he dont do anthing in a game.

  • 250. Samuel  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:31 pm

tom: surely he already had fabregas before vieira left and could fuck him even if he stayed?

  • 251. Columbo Mavis  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:31 pm

Tom. You are either on a wind up, or you are a total imbercile.

  • 252. ron  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:32 pm

what the fuck?? sort it out lads!

  • 253. tom  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:34 pm

trust me fabregas is so shit he cant do anything in a game, hes only good when hes with wenger in bed

  • 254. Columbo M  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:35 pm

tom - have you seen them bumming? I thought Wenger was the Voyeur…

  • 255. DeiseGooner  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:36 pm

Personally i cant see us signing Diarra. The only type of player i can see Wenger signing would be a winger/striker . Basically what Reyes was or Walcott is. Who that would be i havent got a clue, but i reckon thats the type of player hes on the lookout for

Can Walcott not be the answer to the left winger ? I seem to remember him scoring a few crackers for the saints and england playing from the left.

  • 256. Osaka Jap  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:37 pm

LOL Jeez Gilberto Silver! In your desire to see a (any) signing you seem to have lost the plot completely.

It’s no secret why Diarra didn’t fly to Denmark. Coz it is all over the papers today. Sidwell clattered him, he did his knee so can’t play the match. That simple. Your article would get 100% for creativity. Practical reality 0%. Ain’t gonna happen like everybody here says. We don’t need another [young] midfielder. Fact

  • 257. Samuel  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:39 pm

If we have say 15m profit…
    11m on Mancini
    2m on Diarra
    7m on Lita
    8m on Modric
= Us spending 13million this summer. Would Wenger make such whole sale additions, knowing we’d play a rotation team and not just a first eleven? I’d love for this to happen and could see us genuinely fighting for all 4 cups. I don’t think Diarra is true though, Lita a back-up to Eduardo not coming and Modric may not come till January (also if Eduardo can’t come, could Modric still?). Shame it won’t happen, but it would just be great.

  • 258. Samuel  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:41 pm

Osaka Jap: That’s not to say that there wasn’t rumours flying around before the flight.

  • 259. tom  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:42 pm

ok can someone tel me why we got so many young boys in the first team? if wenger is so good hes got money why dont he buy top playes? its not arsenal fc no more its wenger fc now. wenger wel kill arsenal.

Mavis lemme explain my comments. Basically I am not guaranteeing that signing Mancini/Quaresma will give us a win. Cos sure, they could have absolute stinkers and we go out anyway. BUT what I AM saying is that my belief in the team would be a lot tronger. We would have more attacking options, more variations and add width to a very narrow side. This team is very good but far from Great. Wingers missing. Anyway I don’t think the UEFA Cup wuold be such a bad thing for us anyway. I rate the team but it is nowhere near good enough to win the Champions league no chance. It may stand a good chance of winning the UEFA cup though. Its a trophy innit? All count.

  • 261. Garfield  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:44 pm

Samuel if you mentions LITA one more time I am gonna bash my cock against your head. Lita is RUBBISH. So shit he cant break into the full England team. Did you see him stink out the place against Serbia under-21s in the Euros?

  • 263. Frudicus  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:45 pm

255 - Good idea about walcott going on the left, definatly should be an option. I still think we should play 433/451. Cant leave Rosicky out of the starting line-up when he’s fit, hes too good. Wenger should pl;ay rosicky where he played Hleb against Inter!

  • 264. tom  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:50 pm

wenger goes around fuckin all the boys first then lets them play in the first team. hes sick in the head. he wont buy anyone ok.

  • 265. Columbo M  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:51 pm

Garfield… fair enough mate. I do agree we may need another genuine winger. Walcott is the closest we have to that at the moment. Eduardo may be able to play there, though I haven’t seen enough of him to make that judgement. Certainly Hleb and Rosicky are not wingers who get to past full-backs to the byline. But did you see Eboue on Sunday? The Inter defenders were bricking it when he ran at them… Not sure it would be the same against faster full-backs in the prem though. A skillful, experienced, consistent, affordable winger would be nice.
However, re the CL, I still think we’d beat those teams over two legs!

  • 266. Frudicus  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:54 pm

265 - Im pretty sure with eboue on the right and walcott on the left, we are gonna cause many problems, especially with Rosicky / Hleb playing in the middle of a 451/433 formation

  • 270. tom  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:59 pm

look its no point talking about it wenger is not gonna anyone. hes just gonna paly with all hes yong boys.

  • 271. Garfield  |  July 31st, 2007 at 3:59 pm

Colombo M agree with virtualy everything you said in 265 re. Walcott benig closest thing to a winger we got, Eboue being sick on Sunday. Inly thinkg I will disagree with you on is the CL. Knock-out comp or not we have No chance of winning that believe me. Too many strong teams have strengthened and Wenger’s tactics are way too awful and ghastly to ever win us that tournament. I would actually choose winning the CL over the league this season just cos could you imgaine the jealous envy of Fergie, so desperate to win it…and especially Mourinho just before he gets the sack? Priceless! Point is you can buy the PL but not the CL.

  • 272. Garfield  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:00 pm

  • 284. vlcgooner  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:07 pm

I have to admit that I haven’t seen enough of Diarra to really evaluate him, but we do seem overloaded in midfield– and I like all of our midfielders, inlcuding Flamini, who is scrappy and gets into the box for crosses (but not Song). So what gives? Could Wenger ask for SWP while he is talking with Chelsea? Better yet Joe Cole…although I KNOW that isn’t going to happen.

Actually, I still wouldn’t mind seeing Martins come in. I think he is left-footed and is very mobile. I have heard rumors that he is a pain-in-the-ass, and with the team claiming great chemistry that could be a problem. But we do need a left-sided attacking player more than we need another midfielder. If Diarra comes in, someone else will be sold. But who?

  • 285. TeamSpirit  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:07 pm

i also rate robben, but i hear he doesnt get on too well with RVp, though am sure that can be easily sorted out even if its true

fuck me how deperessing to have so little else to do that you spend your afternoon writing ‘wenger likes little boys’ over and over again just to provoke a few gooners. You are one truly sad, sad person.

  • 293. Frudicus  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:16 pm

Alrite Bruva hows it goin, you watch the footee over the weekend??

  • 294. TeamSpirit  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:16 pm

    291 why? never ever?

  • 295. vlcgooner  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:16 pm

Team Spirit: Me too. I think cole is brilliant, and he is treated like an impetuous child by Morinho. but what can we do about it? there is no way he is coming here. I don’t even consider it a remote possibility. But Martins? I think it could happen. The one big issue is that he is very similar to Ade and they are both African, so they would compete for a place, and leave at the same time!

  • 296. TeamSpirit  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:19 pm

    u said that rather enphatically…

  • 297. TeamSpirit  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:20 pm

  • 302. ey  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:22 pm

has anyone thought about my post this morning, i suggested we might bid for ronaldo from utd to solve our winger problem, we could afford him now we’ve some money, what ya all think

  • 303. Anthony B  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:23 pm

fucking excellent idea, i think arsley vinger should go for him

  • 304. Columbo M  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:26 pm

Fuck. My timing is shit today!

Garfield - I wasn’t saying we’d win the CL. I was just disputing your assertion that we wouldn’t get past some of the more difficult teams in the pre-qualifier.
I don’t expect us to win it either, but I wouldn’t say we have no chance. We got to the final 2 seasons ago with a lot of the same players (admittedly Pires and Henry have gone now) and they are more experienced now.
Statistically, we’ve more chance of winning that than the league in reality, as cups are more of a lottery. Still, I think we passed up the chance of a generation by losing in Paris. Damn, thinking about that night still hurts so much.. :(

  • 305. TeamSpirit  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:27 pm

302, 303… If wishes were horses?

I really think if Reyes had fulfilled his potential, we would have really not had the amont of problems we seem to have with the wings

  • 306. Anthony B  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:27 pm

my mum said her friends daughter thats going out with a friend of the sister of the girlfriend of mark from the chemist thats a first cousin of steven gerrards friends mother, told her that steven girrard might be jioning us this week

fuck off fu, its your fault we have no winger, i hate you

  • 310. Columbo M  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:36 pm

reyes would be a mule. Don’t know what the difference is, but it sounds like something more useless than a donkey.

  • 311. fu  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:42 pm

that cunt reyes is talking today saying that athletico was the team he wanted to go to all along and how happy he is. all i can say is athletico must have their own branch of rose tinters like we have if he can sprout that shit and get away with it

  • 312. vlcgooner  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:43 pm

Sorry guys… mules work hard. Very hard. And are sure footed. If you are trying to insult Reyes, your metaphor kinda of sucks. He is actually more like a horse: fleet-footed but fragile.

  • 313. TeamSpirit  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:44 pm

310 just shades 307 in terms of accuracy of descrition…

Although, he gave all when he played, he just was not willing to be on with it, that elusive stuff called onsistency…

  • 314. Romford Pele  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:45 pm

a mule is the bastard offspring of a male donkey and female horse.

he may be a very simple lad and thick as two short planks.

But a donkey, or mule or ass he was not.

his goal in the 5-3 Boro match was pure class

  • 317. TeamSpirit  |  July 31st, 2007 at 4:49 pm

312, but reyes works real hard, but its his unreasonably stubborn and unwillingness to bend from his conviction that the weather in Englad has any role to play is his upcoming career…

Thats mulish type of stuboorness, you talk of being as stubborn as a Mule i think… Hence I think its a mmore appropriate metaphor.

  • 326. Columbo M  |  July 31st, 2007 at 5:02 pm

  • 328. TeamSpirit  |  July 31st, 2007 at 5:05 pm

i think the point he made was that AFTR arsenal he was ALMOST REACHING A DEAL WITH ATHLETICO when real came in with the loan option which arsenal accepted cos they wanted baptista….

Reyes is not really fickle minded and I dont think he has much tact all in what he says so i dont think he was trying to cook anything up there

  • 329. Cuzzy  |  July 31st, 2007 at 5:05 pm

There was a rumour link on here somewhere, I can’t be arsed back-gunning. I can’t tell if Garfield was joking - wasn’t Lita top scorer in the under-21s, I remember him scoring a lot and playing really well. Also, Walcott isn’t in the full England team, Clichy isn’t in the french team and Fabregas isn’t a Spanish regular, must mean they are super shit yes? If you were being sarcastic then forget this.

The best potential signings I’ve seen in page is M G Pederson and Lita. They would be brilliant signings. Lita is the closest I’ve seen to wrighty and pederson for me has the best left foot in league. Lita probably 8 million and pederson maybe 5 million? Maybe more????

the difference between wrighty and lita is righty was a clinical finisher and a clean strker of the ball ,lita get’s into good position’slike wrighty but is a poor finisher ,i thought he was poor for the u21 the chance’s he fluffed ,he’s one of them who will miss 6 chance’s to score 1

how about is finish or lack of against he italian’s with an open net ,i was in stitches when he fluffed that chance i just said to myself what a muppet

  • 385. arnold  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:26 pm

In spite of what FC Dinamo coach Branko Ivankovic said earlier today about the rumours regarding the transfers of football players Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric were just media speculation, Nova TV news reports that they have unofficially learned that Vedran Corluka is a new member of English Premiership club Manchester City.

On the eve of their trip to Domzale, the Mamic brothers visited London again and, after Eduardo da Silva, they sold another member of the Croatian national side. The transfer reportedly weighs between seven and 10 million euros. The only remaining player of the Dudu - Modric - Corluka trio is Luka Modric, who seems to be headed to Arsenal after all.

  • 386. arnold  |  July 31st, 2007 at 10:28 pm

modric will join up with the squad later this week and arsenal are about to pay zagreb 8m

    IM GAY AND PROUD

  • 389. crafty bison  |  August 1st, 2007 at 1:11 am

Man Utd just got £6.7m for Rossi, and we were stupid enough to let Lupoli go on a free.

Both are natural-finishing Italians and what’s the difference? We were stupid enough to let a foreign youngster in the last year of his contract go out on loan. That’s just irresponsible. By all means, loan youngsters out when they’re tied down to contracts, either for experience or to boost their value. But when their contract is running down? How utterly ridiculous. If we’d handled Lupoli sensibly we could have got £5m for him easy.

  • 390. crafty bison  |  August 1st, 2007 at 1:17 am

    Wikipedia:

“However on July 19, 2007 it was reported that the English side Arsenal won the right of first refusal on Luka Modrić’s future transfer.[1]

Unofficial reports subsequently emerged late on July 31 suggesting that Arsenal would take up this option immediately, having failed to lure their unknown primary target for the left wing. They purportedly will pay £8 million for the player.”

  • 391. crafty bison  |  August 1st, 2007 at 2:08 am

Official website squad lists have been updated. Confirmations of Sunu and Bartley (for some reason they have him down as a striker?), and we’ve also signed Anton Blackwood (16-year-old defender) from Northampton Town.

  • 392. Apple Jam  |  August 1st, 2007 at 2:31 am

Top post 389. Unbelievable. Funny thing is, Rossi is nowhere near as good as Lupoli yet United got almost £7 million for him. Pool got almost £7 mil too for that useless turd Bellamy and even got £7 mil for the almost-as-useless Cisse.
Then look at Arsenal. Henry’s £16 mil is a joke. Ljungberg for £3.5 when the buyers are West Ham, the biggest joke club especially when you fancy fleecing someone is a joke. Pires given away for free when he could still, even now walk straight into our first-team. Sol given away for zilch when Marseilles had offered us £5m. Even better we coulda used him as a pawn for Ribery. Lauren a top right-back allowed to run down his contract. We could not even fleece the Chavs on the Cuntley transfer ffs.
Therefore thats why I get so exhausted and fed-up of hearing some fellow Gooners go ‘oh we’re skint…we cannot afford this, that bla bla’. When you’re starving and on the street then you don’t fucking piss on a decent Sunday roast. ‘Roll up, roll up’. Get your discount Arse players. Worst part is, apart from giving away players (top players too) like sweets the shit small sums we get in return aren’t even reinvested properly into the squad. Anyway no point carrying on. Save to say I actually agree with whoever suggested the UEFA Cup. I think it would be better for us as this is a chance of a trophy we could actually win. The CL and the league are way out of our reach with this weak squad I’m afraid. I’d bite your hand off if you offered me the Uefa Cup that’s how desperate its become.

  • 393. Well-endowed gooner  |  August 1st, 2007 at 2:50 am

Lupoli was homesick and coming out of contract. What were we going to do? Chain him to the gates until he signed a contract extension? He’s not a piece of meat, fellas. He’s just a kid who wanted to go home.

Rossi for 7 million is a helluva lot of money, though. Villareal must be desperate. How was his form last year?

  • 394. Well-endowed gooner  |  August 1st, 2007 at 4:23 am

So are we getting Lassana Diarra or what?

  • 395. Freddy Adu  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:10 am

Maybe we just aren’t asking for enough?

    397

  • 398. ey  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:41 am

Rossi got 9 goals in 18 apps for Parma, essentially saving them from relegation. This is against Italian defences. Lupoli, although I liked him, was scoring goals against chapioship defenders for a team that was one of the best in it’s league.

  • 399. Well-endowed gooner  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:00 am

You know, I’ve been googling Arsene Wenger’s wife for quite a while, and I’m getting nothing. Does she exist? What’s her name? What’s she like compared to the wives of other Premier League managers?

  • 400. Well-endowed gooner  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:00 am

    Oh and 400, I suppose.

  • 401. Well-endowed gooner  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:00 am

    Yay for me.

  • 402. Well-endowed gooner  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:29 am

Sometimes I think Wenger’s daughter was immaculately conceived. The idea of Wenger having sex seems really creepy. I much rather think that it happened some other way, as befitting the Great Man. Zeus was fond of changing into white bulls and clouds of golden rain to sleep with women; why couldn’t Wenger have done something similiar?

I can imagine in happening as Mrs Wenger sat in the stands at Highbury, during the 97-98 season. I can see Wenger’s seed disseminating to the playing style of the Arsenal side of that vintage. Just picture it; Vierira to Overmars, barreling up the wing; a cut-back to Bergkamp; a slide-rule pass to Anelka who slams it in. It’s enough to send me into orgasmic delight, so why not the WoW (Wife of Wenger)?

  • 403. Well-endowed gooner  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:32 am

It’s times like this that I wish I’d supported Man Utd or Chelsea. At least they’ve got something interesting to blog about during the pre-season. How am I supposed to kill time at work without a tasty transfer rumour or two?

  • 404. Well-endowed gooner  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:34 am

There’s a hush in the crowd. Anticipation hangs heavy over the face of our hero. The pressure builds. Will he reach it? Will he be #405 gun?

  • 405. Well-endowed gooner  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:34 am

    #405 gun.

  • 406. Well-endowed gooner  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:34 am

    The crowd goes wild!

  • 407. Well-endowed gooner  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:42 am

Reporter: So, Well-endowed gooner, how does it feel to be 405 gun?
WEG: Well, it’s an honour. I’d like to thank my team. If it wasn’t for bloggers #1-#398, I wouldn’t be here. It’s a team effort, you know. There’s no “I” in team.
Reporter: When you first started blogging, did you ever think you’d get #405?
WEG: When I was a kid, sure, you know, you always think you’ll reach #405. But when you start blogging, and realise how many legends have preceded you, and how much effort it takes, you realise how lucky you are to be in such a great team. It’s a team effort, you know.
Reporter: Any thoughts about the future? Are there any other guns you’d like to reach before you retire?
WEG: Well, I’m going to take it one gun at a time. I’m still young, there’s plenty to time to get more guns. The important thing to keep posting hard, to train hard, to keep giving 100 percent.
Reporter: Any truth to the rumours that you’re transferring to another blog site?
WEG: I love this blog, I really do. But who knows in the future? It’s always flattering to be linked with other blog sites. But for the moment, I’m a gunnerblog poster.
Reporter: Thank you, Well-endowed gooner. Always a pleasure.

    Psssst.. come here…

I have a good friend in Amsterdam that is In The Know regarding Ajax and transfer dealings and he was spot on about the Babel to Liverpool transfer.

He says that both Spurs and Arsenal have been watching a 15 year old Ajax academy player called Frans Besteelt for some time now and that Arsenal are about to sign him this week.

From the descriptions I’ve heard he’s a left winger that can also play in a central attacking midfield role, has great pace and vision and is tipped to be the next big thing in Dutch football.

But you didn’t hear that from me….

  • 415. NO OFFENCE  |  August 1st, 2007 at 8:35 am

To whoever it was crying coz United got £7m for Rossi; He saved Parma from the drop, scored 9 goals in 18 games.

Lupoli; couldn’t even get in the Derby side! And was out of contract.

Hope that clears it up for you?

  • 416. NO OFFENCE  |  August 1st, 2007 at 8:36 am

And, Fiorintina are loaning him out to a little dinky Italian team as well.

  • 417. Simmzy  |  August 1st, 2007 at 8:37 am

  • 428. Ruralgoon  |  August 1st, 2007 at 9:17 am

Hi Geekov, dont take this the wrong way, but I think that you are depressed. From your posts you seemed troubled!! You always seem capable off talking sense, & then as if you realise, you then start acting childish.

I think you are scared off success?? I bet you dont like attention in real life??

  • 440. Samuel  |  August 1st, 2007 at 9:36 am

I leave for work at 2, we betsa sign someone before then. Like, now. A day before Amsterdam, he wouldn’t play but it would be another team booster, would have enough time to house hunt and introduce himself to the team before Fulham.

  • 441. Samuel  |  August 1st, 2007 at 9:37 am

Also, what happened to that Goufrann fella?

A depressed mood is generally situational and reactive, and associated with grief, loss, or a major social transition. A change of residence, marriage, divorce, the break-up of a significant relationship, the death of a loved one, graduation, or job loss are all examples of instances that might trigger a depressed mood.

  • 444. Well-endowed gooner  |  August 1st, 2007 at 9:48 am

    433. TopKat - My heart was touched, TopKat. I’m still at work, so it’ll be mighty embarrassing if I was touched anywhere else.

  • 445. TopKat  |  August 1st, 2007 at 9:49 am

Geekov - what about your club talisman leaving for Barcelona?

Or not signing anyone while your rivals all strenghten?

Or realising you are only the 5th sexiest man on Gunnerblog?

These are more realistic reasons I feel…

  • 446. Well-endowed gooner  |  August 1st, 2007 at 9:56 am

Actually, TopKat, good one. I walked right into that, didn’t I?

I’m depressed as well, so I know how Geekov feels. I’m the most well-endowed man on Gunnerblog, and I still feel inadequate. I shudder to think how the 5th most endowed gooner feels.

Serotonin, Geekov. Little neurotransmitters between neurons. That’s all depression boils down to. Pop some pills, unzip your pants and take a good hard look at yourself. You’ll feel better (I know I always do).

  • 447. TopCat  |  August 1st, 2007 at 10:02 am

    Like the preverbial wall…

Why is everyone depressed? Lifes too short for that shit.

Girl problems? Just hire a jaw dropping call girl for the night - the type of woman you wouldn’t even get within 500 metres of in real life - pop a few blue ones, fuck the shit out her all night - snort coke off her thighs and let he do thinhgs to you that you didn’t think possible.

    Worked for me.

  • 449. Well-endowed Commentator  |  August 1st, 2007 at 10:06 am

He turns his head from side to side, looking at the competition. There’s the depressed Geekov, who’s clinging onto the prospect of #450 as that brief ray of sunshine in his otherwise shadowy life. There’s TopCat - will he remain Top Cat for long? And there’s others that I haven’t been bothered to scroll up and check (sorry fellas).

But he knows that destiny is in his hands. #400 and #450, the mystical double that has only been claimed once before in history. Will he attain it?

What is the matter with you lot, you are like a bunch of kids. There’s an obvious few trying to make genuine discussion but most of you are telling each other to fuck off. lol

Oh well, also what is Hleb doing in all your Arsenal teams?? He is a decent sub at best, he cant shoot, and doesn’t, evidently, and he loses the ball 50% of the time.

We have a good squad, but there are one or two areas we do need to improve upon, mainly being left midfield. Since we lost Pires, our left side hasn’t been strong at all, probrably our weekest part of the team. We have Tomas Rosicky and Keiron Gibbs, who played in the Emirates cup against Inter and did well, got a standing ovation from the croud. Still, he is nowhere near ready for the Premiership so we need someone already experienced, or at least relatively. Possible candidates being, Luca Modric, probable cost of 11million - will Arsene spend that much?

Others maybe condidered such as Robinho or even Quaresma, although they may also be expensive, but you have to spend a bit for a decent winger these days. Personally i would go for Morton Gamst Pedersen. Hes quick hes 26, he got experience in the Premiership, he has assist figures of 10 per season and scores goals too. Probrably a cost of around 8-10million.

The second position we need at least cover for is defence, with Kolo Toure and Emanuel Eboue going to ACN next year for over a month, we need defensive cover for centre back at least. Also, to put it lightly, Senderos is SHIT. He looks like he’s off to Juve and Djourou looks like he’s off on loan to Brum. Eboue will probrably play midfield most of next season. I nominate Curtis Davis for this, he strong, quick, and he can tackle as good as anyone, he reminds me of a young Sol Campbell in his Spurs days. Cost around 8million.

Team for next season, if i was arsenal wenger

    First Team

    Lehmann
    Sagna Toure Gallas Clichy
    Eboue Gilberto/Rosicky Cesc Modric/Rosicky
    RVP Eduardo

My explanation for this is that we should play gilberto at the start and either Modric or Rosicky on the left, then second half either put Rosicky in CM and take off Gilberto, maybe to get a goal, or even take of Cesc. It gives us more options. Modric will be used in the Rotation system with the rest of midfield. Eboue would be the only one safe of his midfield place as i’m not a fan of Hleb.

Obviously Cesc and Gils are our best CM partnership but we should give Rosicky a chance to show us what he can do there, as that is his best position. We need a left footed left winger, which sadly Rosicky is not.

Reserves/ Sub/ FA and Carling Cup team

    Fabianski - for now
    Diarra Djourou Davis Traore
    Hleb Denilson Diaby Modric/Rosicky/Gibbs
    Adebayor Bendtner

    Anyway, theres my tuppence…
