Gunnerblog End of Season Awards 2007
0 guns July 9th, 2007
Considering that we play our first pre-season friendly this week, this is probably my last opportunity to look back at the highs and lows of last season. Winners in last years awards, such as the Champions League Final and the last day at Highbury, seem an awful long way away now. Even memories of 06/07 are beginning to drift, so if you think my decisions seem a little odd, that might well be why.
Before we move on to the awards, a brief bit of site news. Firstly, if you’ve been “having fun” this weekend and not sat in front of a computer, you won’t have seen the new look here on Gunnerblog. Don’t forget to get your free wallpaper.
Elsewhere, yesterday’s Sunday Mirror had a piece by the well-connected Steve Stammers saying that a deal for Bakary Sagna would be completed this week. I don’t know too much about him, but arseblogger described him as “Trabelsi with pace”. That’d be nice. Let’s see what happens.
One player we won’t be signing is Florent Malouda, who is set to join Chelsea.
And now, the main course:
Player of the Season
Last season Thierry Henry’s Football Writers’ Footballer of the Year Award was eclipsed by being named Gunnerblog Player of the Season for the second consecutive year. Well, this season, as you well know, has been entirely different. Henry suffered with injuries and poor form, and just a few weeks ago was sold to Barcelona for £16m.
In his absence, Robin van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor came to the fore. Until a metatarsal break ended Van Persie’s season, he was on course to be our top scorer, and in all likelihood would’ve notched around twenty goals. Either side of a lean streak in spring, Adebayor scored some vital goals and worked harder for the team than just about anyone in the team. However, the failure of either player to maintain form consistently over the season rules them out of the running.
If the team of 05/06 was built around Henry, the current Arsenal team is built around Cesc Fabregas. And yet in many ways last year was Cesc’s most difficult to date. In a team that lacked the incisive running of Henry, as well as midfielders prepared to go beyond the front two, Cesc’s passing was unduly limited.
Henry’s replacement as Player of the Season is likely to be his replacement as captain: Gilberto Silva. This player has had plenty of ups and downs in his Arsenal career, but last season represented the continuation of an upwards curve that began in January 2006, when his deployment in the holding role of a 4-5-1 helped take Arsenal to the Champions League Final. Last season, he was back in a 4-4-2, and responded with 10 goals in a storming season. If the other midfielders can follow his lead next season, we might be on to a winner.
Young Player of the Season
If we’re jealous of other clubs’ established stars, they in turn must be green with envy at the array of wonderkids Arsenal regularly have on display. Gael Clichy improved hugely over the course of the season, whilst Denilson showed a Cesc-like awareness and intelligence, and Abou Diaby’s return from injury was one of the highlights of the season.
But still no-one can surpass Cesc Fabregas. Arsenal.com’s Player of the Year, and a nominee for PFA Player of the Year, he continues to show the potential to become one of the world’s top midfielders. Despite often being limited by his team-mates’ ineptitude, he still managed to produce some of the highlights of the season - a beautiful pass for Emmanuel Adebayor at Old Trafford and a stunning strike at home to Manchester City. It’s fitting that our Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season could be next season’s Captain and Vice respectively.
Worst Player of the Season
Handing out this one always makes me feel a bit cruel, but oh well. Picking this year’s is actually quite tough (Song was out on loan), but prime targets have to be our attacking gruesome twosome: Jeremie Aliadiere and Julio Baptista. While it’s tempting to award it to Aliadiere on the back of his recent comments about Arsene, I’m afraid in this category The Beast is truly unstoppable.
Even on his magical night at Anfield he managed to miss a penalty. Even when he scored two goals in the comeback at White Hart Lane, he clubbed in an own goal and missed from a yard. For whatever reason, he just didn’t cut it, and his return to Madrid can come as no surprise.
Game of the Season
Whilst we’re talking about Baptista’s four-goal haul, I might aswell just come out with it and say that the 6-3 win at Anfield was undoubtedly my Game of the Season. To be 4-1 up at half-time was crazy - for it to end 6-3 was the stuff of fantasy. Bizarrely, it was a night on which two of our poorest performers this season, Baptista and Aliadiere, were absolutely outstanding. A true anomaly, but possibly the most fun I’ve ever had watching a Carling Cup game.
Worst game of the Season
The most boring was probably our 1-0 win at Wigan, but at least we won. For a terrible performance and a horrible result, I’ve got to plump for Sheffield United 1-0 Arsenal. If we’re serious about challenging next year, we must stop dropping points to sides at the bottom end of the table.
Highlight of the Season
Although watching Cesc, Denilson, Diaby and Walcott outclass Chelsea’s midfield in the first half of the Carling Cup Final had a certain delicious savour, the real highlight of the season had to be doing the double over the old enemy, Manchester United. Adebayor’s winner at Old Trafford made him a cult hero, whilst it’s fitting that Henry’s final major contribution was that stoppage time winner at the Emirates Stadium (a moment of curious symmetry with Patrick Vieira, whose final kick in an Arsenal shirt was an FA Cup Final winning penalty against United).
Disappointment of the Season
Last season I said “Our domestic form”. This season, I’m going to go for our premature European exit. Seeing Chelsea, United, and Liverpool in the Champions League Semi-Finals was sickening, especially when we had succumbed, with the greatest of respect, to PSV Eindhoven.
—————————————–
Last seson I wrote this as my conclusion:
So there we are. It was a funny one last season. Lots of highs and lots of lows: what being a supporter is really all about. It’s quite unusual for Arsenal to finish trophyless, but going to Paris really felt like winning something.
Next season is all about improving domestically, hopefully with the help of a sprinkling of summer signings.
We’re waiting, Arsene…
Change “Paris” for “Cardiff” and you’re pretty much there. Still, I suppose that’s progress for you.

Real Madrid offers 25 million pounds for Cesc and Reyes. Wenger counters by asking for Robinho in return. Why don’t we offer to give them a blow job while we’re at it?
Interesting choice for player of the year. I would’ve gone for Willy Gallas. That guy’s hilarious; kept me entertained all through that miserable season. How does he managed to get both feet in his mouth at the same time and still whinge to the press?

Since when did Dein become the universal salve for all ills?
Did Dein prevent Anelka going to Real? Or Patrick being courted by Real every year and eventually going to Juve?
Did he stop cashley hole going to chel$ki?
Dein did some good stuff for the club, but the PR BS that is flying around now that attempts to make him look like Batman is ridiculous.
30. munitionsman | July 9th, 2007 at 7:37 am
The season must start soon because I have half a mahogony…. maybe it’s just early in the morning….
31. Dave | July 9th, 2007 at 7:37 am
Chelski with Malouda will sign an other player who would have fitted directly into the Arsenal squad. Despite having Robben, SWP, Cole and Diarra on the wing, they are still strenghtening in that area while we have no fucking winger at all. Rosicky is not a winger, Hleb is not a winger, Walcott is not a winger, Eduardo is not a winger and Freddie sady was a good winger but is past it now. Gallas also conceded that several Arsenal players are questioning their future at the club. Fabregas anyone? If Wenger appoints that little cunt to captaincy, I will put Wenger’s house on Bin Laden’s target map. Sometimes I just think that Wenger won’t react until we finally miss out on 4th spot.
32. Dave | July 9th, 2007 at 7:40 am
Malouda will apparently cost £12m. Choosing between him and Eduardo, I already know exactly who I would have taken…
33. gunnershabz | July 9th, 2007 at 7:44 am
it looks like liverpool going for the kill for ryan babel, imagine they agree the transfer fee
and then he turns round and says
“liverpool not good enough for me, arsene please sign me up now”
anyways aint it worrying now liverpool going to take our target, and this guy has even admitted he wants to play for arsenal
34. TopCat | July 9th, 2007 at 7:58 am
Morning…
Dave its hard to take another week of no news except unsettled players and other clubs making transfers….but hold tight.
The copa america is over soon an the 2nd of our transfers will be made - just need to wait a few more days….
Its strange re babel…. The pool story may just be a leak from Babel’s agent to gear a move to Arsenal or it may be true…. either way regardless of what Pool do, Im not sure that signing babel will put some arsenal fans minds to rest….
Malouda - 12m? Dave have you seen him play much? I haven’t but from what I hear he doesn’t score many - but that said, he would add some width to our team….
35. gunnershabz | July 9th, 2007 at 8:03 am
top cat…
well what do u think of juan-roman riquelme and diego milito
i seen them play for argentina and they would be great additions to the arsenal front line…
riquelme can play behind the striker like bergkamp, bit lazy though thats the bad thing.
diego milito is a great striker in hot form
36. arnold | July 9th, 2007 at 8:05 am
as an arsenal fan we need a proven goals score from the wings and babel is’nt the guy we need at this time
37. Gunafied | July 9th, 2007 at 8:07 am
morning. in aw i trust.
38. Dave | July 9th, 2007 at 8:12 am
Yeah Tom Cat, let’s wait and see but I would have prefered Wenger to sign the players we need early in June and not in the last minute before preseason starts. Anyway the problem with the likes of Madrid and Barcelona is that once you have given them what they wanted they will come back again cause they know that their tapping up was successful. That’s the reason I would have never sold Henry to them or only in the case they put at least £30m on the table. I still can’t understand while we let our best player leave on the cheap despite having a contract of 3 years left. We were clearly in the better negotiation position and Wenger blew it again.
39. Good to be a GOONAH!! | July 9th, 2007 at 8:14 am
spot on with all of your picks, GilbertoSilver
40. Dave | July 9th, 2007 at 8:16 am
You can expect Real players coming out every week saying how much they would like to have Fabregas in their squad and Mijatovic giving interviews to the press every week saying that Fabregas would be the perfect player for them… Ok, Fabregas and his family are Barca fans so Madrid has apparently not the best cards to sign him but you can expect Fabregas to join Barca as soon as they become interested in him and starting they tapping up.
41. VLC Gooner | July 9th, 2007 at 8:19 am
Why do people insist that we need an out and out winger to win? Barca play a 4-3-3 with the front three shifting positions and the fullbacks providing width. I see that as something arsenal could do with the forwards we have and the abundance of excellent central midfield talent. Of course we should bring in more players. But I don’t think that we HAVE to have a classical winger to win…or maybe we do? Plan B and all that stuff…
42. Berkamp | July 9th, 2007 at 8:25 am
Malouda not worth it.
Babel overrated. Not good enough yet. Not the player we need.
Saviola on the other hand…

Apparently Arsenal fans are wanting the club to retire the number 14 shirt that some French bloke used to wear.
Can’t say I’m one of em, if we aint retiring the number 10 shirt, then why the 14?
I wonder what Arsenal fans the rags, er, I mean, highly respected newspapers asked to get this opinion?
48. Geekov | July 9th, 2007 at 9:02 am
Actually we should retire the 10, 6, 7, 9, 8, 4, 1, 2, 3, 5, 11 shirts. Have I forgotten any?
49. TopCat | July 9th, 2007 at 9:03 am
35.
Morn shabz, geekov….
Was that the sun that poked its head out over the weekend?
I look forward to the Robben scoop hitting the red tops shortly geekov….
Shabz… riquelme has always been a great creator, but isn’t he similar to fabregas in that respect? Except Fabregas tackles also!
Milto - didn’t he get top scorer in spain or something? To be honest I don’t know much more about him, but I doubt we are looking to bring in another striker.
RE 41. VLC.
Very true barca play 4-3-3….but they have a team consisting of Ronaldinho, Eto, Messi and now Henry… we don’t.
Bergkamp - agreed re Babel. Pool are just panicing after missing out on malouda, ribery, quasema. and being rejected again by simao.
I think at 6-7m babel is worth a punt…. even if only as a sqaud player this first season, something tells me freddie wont go a whole season without getting injured, and if one of rosicky, hleb, walcott is out too….the midfield is short on cover again….
50. TopCat | July 9th, 2007 at 9:04 am

We have signed a new striker! Did you miss it?
Rui Fonte’s his name, he’s the new Henry, or is that Goufrann kid the new Henry, can’t remember.
Who’s Goufrann you say? Well, he’s a 21 year old striker/wide player from recently promoted Ligue 1 side caen that we have signed on a 3 year deal, but are apparently loaning him straight back to Caen for a season. That makes sense then.

Although the chairman said they had NOT received an offer!

Pizarro, the new Chav; scored 9 goals in 45 Internationals and last season for Bayern scored 8 goals in 33 games.
makes Ade look positively prolific! I wonder how the pessimists will put a spin on those stats?

dein is a football man and not interested in the housing association and marketing brand that this board are!
football isues are no1 and not redeveloping holloway islington for a fat profit.
they should be firm with wenger and either get him to sign a contract NOW or find a replacement now(like with footballers running down their contracts for a bosman)either be 100%commited or fuck off..
i know wenger has been a major success at arsenal but either sign or fuck off, i know it might be for putting pressure on those cunts upstairs, but who in the end is losing out , them(season tickets sold etc etc) wenger(would walk into any job if ever to leave) or US the fans and benefactors of arsenal being pissed about by both!
every year we are open season for everyone from spain every fucking year!
why? cos we let the cunts get away every year without doing anything in return..
unsettle them cunts either give us £??? for reyes or let his career go down the toilet and get him to return and sit in the reserves for the next 6 years and fuck the money we lose every year( it would buy a lot more than the few million a year in wages we would lose) not to fuck with arsenal .. but they are pussys and would just bend over and let reyes and r madrid give it to them up there arsenals!

I have another quality joke to share with you all…..
A bloke is driving happily along in his car with his girlfriend when he’s pulled over by the police. The police officer approaches him and asks, “Have you been drinking Sir?”
“No. Why?” replies the man. “Was I all over the road?”
“No,” replies the officer, “you were driving splendidly. It was the ugly fat bird in the passenger seat that made me suspicious.”

Arsenal are among Premiership clubs eyeing Reggina hotshot Rolando Bianchi.
Yesterday’s Italian press had the Gunners, Manchester City and Portsmouth all in contact with Reggina president Lillo Foti in the last week about Bianchi’s availability.
Foti is expected to cash in on Bianchi, 24, this summer to help balance the books.

Gallas is speaking the fans’ minds so he is completely right, but maybe to do it out loud is wrong. Wenger has got to buy. Sometimes he gets on my nerves. Like he wants to apparently buy Gouffran, 21 (another youngster) and then send him back on loan to Caen. That’s hardly a signing if he’s returning, is it?
And is it me or has Bakari Sagna’s price gone up from 6 to 7.5 now? That is quite a bit of money for an unknown defender.
Still trust Wenger…little bit. But he has GOT to buy.

20000 pumps & 3 squirts u mean? should be a good interview tho, i am looking forward to it…
160. TopCat | July 9th, 2007 at 12:13 pm
I found a translation of Gallas’ comments on his website:
He told his own website: “What is sure, it is that several players are questioning the club’s future.
“Around us, all the teams are recruiting but what is planned to compensate for the departure of Titi Henry?
“I am not at Arsenal to play for third place. It is necessary to recruit players of reputation because the young players have many qualities but the season is very long.
“The young players are thirsty for victories but Arsenal must obtain results to gain titles. If not, one will have to change policy and do the same as the other teams: recruit with more means.
“I will have a discussion with Arsene Wenger and board members to know the objectives of the club this season and what they wish to set up to build an even more competitive team.”
And despite only joining Arsenal from Chelsea last season, Gallas indicated he may seek a move if Wenger cannot convince him the club are moving forward.
He added: “Today I am at Arsenal but I do not know what can occur tomorrow.
He is right to be saying that. But wrong to be saying it to the world again.
But he has no true loyalty to Arsenal.
Who does anymore?
161. Mavis | July 9th, 2007 at 12:19 pm
Why don’t we just resign Junici Inamoto? That will surely solve all our problems and appease the players/fans who demand a big name signing.
162. ron | July 9th, 2007 at 12:22 pm
a winners mentality should be to win. gallas wants to win & feels he may not achieve it at arsenal if they keep bringing in young guys with no experience but great potential…
the thing is, while he is the experience teaching the young, when they prosper he may have retired. so his comments are understandable.

169. Dave | July 9th, 2007 at 12:30 pm
Gallas is right to make things hot for the board and Wenger but I hate it when players come out saying that they are Arsenal players for now. In most cases that means that they will be off as soon as possible. But I can’t even take his statements amiss, imagine you were in his shoes, a worldclass player surrounded by boys who have won nothing yet. So he is virtually saying what most of us think, this board and Wenger are totally ignorant bastards who will or have already ruined our beloved club. Cunts.
170. Berkamp | July 9th, 2007 at 12:32 pm
I don’t think you can take it that far Dave. Calm down a bit mate.

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong
Maybe I’ve been here too long
The songs on the radio sound the same
Everybody just looks the same
But then last night was so much fun
And now your sheets are dirty
The streets are dirty too but
You never look back over what you’ve done
Remember when you were young
You’d lose yourself
In the morning, you know you won’t remember a thing
In the morning, you know it’s gonna be alright
Wake him up, warm him up
Put him on the stage, well
The boy can’t help it, it’s not his fault
Just a dangerous dangerous thing
But then every night’s still so much fun
And you’re still out there darling
Clinging on to the wrong ideas but
I never regret anything I’ve done
Remember when you were young
[ In The Morning lyrics found on http://www.completealbumlyrics.com ]
You’d lose yourself
In the morning you know he won’t remember a thing
In the morning you know it’s gonna be alright
In the morning, you know he won’t remember a thing
In the morning, you know it’s gonna be all. . .
In the morning, you know he won’t remember a thing
In the morning, you know it’s gonna be all…
In the morning, you know he won’t remember a thing
In the morning, you know it’s gonna be alright
Are you really gonna do it this time?
Are you really gonna do it this time?
Are you really gonna do it this time?
Are you really gonna do it this time?
X2
You’ve got got to do it this time
Are you really gonna do it do it do what?
Are you really gonna do it do it do it yeah
Are you really gonna do it what
In the morning you know he won’t remember a thing

187. Dave | July 9th, 2007 at 12:45 pm
Gallas used to win things with Chelski, so he is right to say that he won’t stay at Arsenal to play for third place.
188. davey b | July 9th, 2007 at 12:45 pm
aint it so depressing the amount of players that have left the club and the ones that want to leave because we have nt kicked on since 2004
189. Mos | July 9th, 2007 at 12:46 pm
they’re french.
190. davey b | July 9th, 2007 at 12:48 pm
no players see the length of the contract and how high the wage is not the ambition of the club they only become disallusioned when they sit down and think about the situation instead of grabbing all the money they can in the quickest time possible
191. Ruralgoon | July 9th, 2007 at 12:49 pm
Perhaps he ought to stop whingeing, start giving his all and leading by example; then we might win something. Its part of the job definition of being a footballer, you help your club win stuff…. if he cant do this then he’s not good enough at his job and ought to be sacked for being a lazy, whingey bastard.
192. davey b | July 9th, 2007 at 12:49 pm
in a way im glad because maybe wenger may pull his finger out and sign a few more players but on the other hand i hate the fact that its come from the fucking chelsea scummer

191. Ruralgoon | July 9th, 2007 at 12:49 pm
fuckin spot on , im sick of the likes of gallas and henry
bottom line if you want to play for this club then do it and stop behaving like a child
194. davey b | July 9th, 2007 at 12:54 pm
as much as i dispise lehmann ,cygan ,grimandi for not being good enough for arseanl at least they wanted to play for arsenal and while they may have been inferior players to thers they gave 100% commitment
grimandi wasnt good enough thats just my opinion for i get hamered about that one
195. Gunafied | July 9th, 2007 at 12:54 pm

Real Madrid attacking midfielder Julio Baptista says his game has improved for the season he spent on-loan at Arsenal.
While failing to nail down a regular place, Baptista insists he is grateful to Gunners boss Arsene Wenger for the way he improved his game while at Emirates stadium.
“He coaches you to play with intelligence,” said Baptista. “You learn how to play with and without the ball.
“Working with Wenger, I’ve learned how to receive the ball in the most dangerous areas and to press on against the opposition where it hurts them most.”

Sums it up quite well methinks…. on Goodplaya
OVER a month before the Fulham game and already Willam Gallas is getting in the first excuses.
He says:
“What is sure, it is that several players are questioning club’s future. Around us, all the teams are recruiting but what is planned to compensate for the departure of Henry?
I will have a discussion with Arsène Wenger and board members to know the objectives of the club this season and what they wish to set up to build an even more competitive team. “
Despite my rapidly rusting French, I’ve read the original interview and not once does he mention the most important thing - that the players we have simply play better than they did last season.
As a supposedly senior player it’s a wretched example to set. It’s a ready made excuse for the first time we fail to defend properly at a corner or the first time we insist on passing the ball into the net and fluff our lines. It’s also true that there are still nearly eight weeks until deadline day.
The man is a bad smell, a player who coasted through last season on reputation alone, a player who seems to think his achivements at Chelsea count a jot at Arsenal.
A supposed plus point of Henry leaving was an end to all of this crap. Except whereas 200 plus goals and a couple of league titles made it easy to forgive in Thierry, now we have it manifested in a player whose sole contribution to the club has been 10 months of massive wages and a part in our most shambolic defence for years.

At the moment I am tired of Arsenal and cannot muster the energy to comment on whats going on from Gallas opening his fucking big mouth. Keep the shit INHOUSE you fucker, there is already enough uncertainty in the club for one of the most senior players to start running his trap. Great way to help the youngsters Willy you dick!
Now Liverpool are bidding for Babel, I just need a break as I have no idea what AW has planned.

Entities and organizations may enter a state of decline if they fail to respond effectively to changes, which may be the result of:
inability to recognize change in the organizational environment
insufficient resources to respond to change in the organizational environment
refusal to respond to change in the organizational environment because organizational leaders benefit from organizational decline

I said it before and I will say it again. This board and manager will never win us a major trophy again. I applaud Gallas for his honesty and winning mentality. Thank God someone speak out because face it. It´s not the rose-tinted Apologists that are going to put any pressure on now. Is it? The reason it has been allowed to get this far is simple becaus although there has been sever lack of investment and quality for 3 year kicking on 4…the Apologists hav continued to tell us that ´Wenger Knows´…and that ´these are the good times´. Guess they´re looking a little stupid now though. Gallas, Cesc has had enough, Henry had enough, and more will follow. This what happens when you have a fan-base of apologists not concerned with winning and who never apply enough pressure on the manager and board.
Any wonder Real and Barca come calling every summer? Easy picking AFC are these days. All the comedians who kept saying óh we are so close to glory´ crack me up. We´ve never been further away.

Assistant manager Stewart Houston took charge until the end of the 1994-95 season. Arsenal finished 12th in the Premiership (their lowest ever-finish in the Premier League, as of 2006).

After all, Arsenal were warned by a Chelski defender less than two years ago that it would “take years” for them to begin challenging for honours again.
“Things will no longer be so easy for Arsenal,” pronounced the Chelski man in question.
“The future is Chelsea, we are the ones moving forward.
“Arsenal have had their time.”
Some bloke called William Gallas, if you were wondering.

Arsenal will never win anything ever again….
they will get sucked into a black hole and disappear from existence unless we sign someone now.
- - - -
Or unless the current players step up a level and actually play better than the shit they played last season
But god forbid the players should say - hands up we were crap, we will try harder next season.
249. VLCgooner | July 9th, 2007 at 2:04 pm
Motta would be a good signing. He is a bit of beast and was constantly carded for Barca, however his (over)-physical style would fit right into the Premiership. I also seem to remember him scoring off a free-kick from about 30 meters out a couple of years ago. He seems to have fallen out of favor with Barca however. I guess it was his “indiscipline”. We could use someone like him.
As for Gallas, I love him as a player but don’t like his attitude. He seems to be a mercenary, the kind of person who is great when things go well, but falls apart as soon as the going gets tough. Gilberto — who just gave a verbal bitch-slap to Drogba — is a leader. Gallas seems to be a complainer. I just wish we could get a little bit of team spirit in him, because he is also an awesome player.

@246: Lol, poor Billy, he might have already cursed himself for jumping on the sinking ship though he could have won the CL with Milan this season and could have licked the pussies of a lot of sexy Italian girls down in Milano. But no, he had to join our glorified youthteam with little cunts like Fabregas who talk big everytime despite winning nothing in 2 years. The crack is that even Henry (probably the reason why he signed for us) has left the club and Billy is on his own now praying every day that his contract may run out as fast as possible.
260. VLCgooner | July 9th, 2007 at 2:55 pm
Robhino for Gallas and Reyes? RM are always needing defenders and Gallas would jump at the chance. But I doubt that RM would want to give Robhino up and as we saw with Baptista, there is no guarantee that he would perform for Arsenal.

280. ron | July 9th, 2007 at 3:35 pm
so all u mother fuckers excused last season as bad luck with injuries… it will be different with our two main strikers back…
we have sold henry, while our rivals have bought: alex, sidewell, ben haim, pizzario, malouda, torres, tevez, nani, anderson, hargreaves…
we have also sold aliadiere & give away bap & lupoli!!!
what happens WHENEVER RVP gets injured again?? edu will prob need time to adjust to the PL, ade will play in the ANC…
leaving us with edu & bender upfront, which means there is a very strong possibility that we could have the exact same problem, that is the defination of insane.
why didnt we buy tevez?? or even babel?? this season will determine if AW stays with us or not, with the board desperate to keep him, dont tell me there isnt money available!!! the board know if AW goes they will have to spend big as no other manager can do what he does in the transfer market. AW is taking a massive risk, with our champs league place at stake (not even considering the title these days!!)
the only signing, apart from yet more youngsters is a unproven striker, yes it may work out, but also may not… were does that leave us??
what the fuck is he waiting for?? la liga to end?? hmmmmm

Boredom is a condition characterized by perception of one’s environment as dull, tedious, and lacking in stimulation. This can result from leisure and a lack of aesthetic interests. Labor, however, and even art itself may be subject to a critique that includes boredom as one of the signs of inauthenticity and alienation (see Marxism). There is an inherent anxiety in boredom; people will expend considerable effort to prevent or remedy it, yet in many circumstances, it is accepted as suffering to be endured. Common passive ways to escape boredom are to sleep or to think creative thoughts (daydream). Typical active solutions consist in an intentional activity of some sort, often something new, as familiarity and repetition lead to the tedious

Motherfucker (also existing in countless contracted forms e.g. muthafucka (in rap) , mofo) is a common insult and profanity in American English and, in other varieties of the English language. The term, widely viewed as an obscenity, may be used by some in a neutral, or even positive way. The term is literally an accusation of incest, although as with most insults, it is used pejoratively. When used in this way specifically in relation to a man, it may be intended as an attack on his masculinity. Many consider “motherfucker” to be one of the most offensive profanities in the English language. A study published in 2000 found that British people consider it second only to “cunt” in severity.

Real Madrid again openly say they want Fabregas, they think they can do whatever they want, take players when thay want,if Arsenal do something like this expect Fifa to give us a fine….I belive it was them who unsettled Anelka,Reyes, trying to coz unrest about Wenger situatiolast year about Fabregas still on it this year.Their transfer policy is wrong,I`m really starting to hate this team.If you want Fabregas gives us 50million + Robinho

Maybe this is why we wont go for Babel (if we were ever going to, all been media speculation hasnt it ?)
Liverpool have made a £10m bid for highly-rated Ajax winger Ryan Babel, BBC Five Live Sport understands.
However, the Dutch club are thought to be holding out for £13.5m for the 20-year-old, who has also been linked to Arsenal.
13.5 mil - are they serious ?
352. y-front man | July 9th, 2007 at 5:52 pm
Come on boys this could be fun. I challenge GilbertoSilver, Respects, Little Dutch, WillyG, Mos, Gunner8, Ron, Rural, Blog Head, TopCat, Mavis, Rohan, Bergkamp, Dave, Gunnershabz and especially Gelbs to put your money where your mouths are and join the league! sorry if i missed you out but you are also very much challenged!

355. TIMMAL | July 9th, 2007 at 6:03 pm
wenger has realistically 2 seasons left to win something or he’ll be remebered as thee pot in which jizz is dispensed. he’s like 60 years old why does he still persist with youth, he’ll never see cecs at his prime. wake up old man, give us quaresma
356. TIMMAL | July 9th, 2007 at 6:04 pm
how old is quaresma any hoe
357. Rohan | July 9th, 2007 at 6:07 pm
I thought Babel was like 6m rated. 13.5m is stupid. We are running out of possible signings now for left wing.
358. mike hunt | July 9th, 2007 at 6:16 pm
no one is going to sign without the manager either signing a new contract or fucking off…unless he’s a nobody who will take the wages offered by arsenal as they will be considerably high compared to the rest of europe(thats what an agent will do), and the player won’t give a fuck who the manager is……….
MAKE GALLAS THE NEXT MANAGER WITH PV 4 AS NEW PADDY RICE(SAME FORENAME)
359. mike hunt | July 9th, 2007 at 6:19 pm
Just face it the only signings will be players like gouffran who the next manager (think it is gonna be the grimster grimandi) basically emerging talents…..NO SUPER CLASS LIKE WENGER SAID ….
after he’s been hanging around with liars(board)it tends to rub off on you……..
360. paulie | July 9th, 2007 at 6:25 pm
what the fuck, i cant believe it. we have people complaining about the price of babel. why ffs, are you paying it out of your own pocket. 13.5 mil is fuck all in todays market, you only get shite for 6 mil
361. Simmzy | July 9th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
Quaresma is only 23.
362. mike hunt | July 9th, 2007 at 6:30 pm
just heard a rumour why wenger won’t sign a new contract….
the board wanted to scrap the pre season tours of austria and the usual places….
But the money fleecing board wanted asia and america(hence a fall out)…..
wenger is leaving……………………
you heard it here!
grimster grimandi is the next manager by xmas….
i was having a crap in the boardroom toilets and heard the arguement ……..
363. naz | July 9th, 2007 at 6:31 pm
now we definetly not signing RYAN BABELliverpool are using there money unlike arsenal
364. fu | July 9th, 2007 at 6:34 pm
are you crazy man, wenger will never fucking leave, where else would he have his arse liked constantly and get a big fat rise every year for winning fuck all. no mate he wont leave no fucking way, hes no fool. and you heard it here
365. naz | July 9th, 2007 at 6:34 pm
who is grimster grimandi
366. WillyG | July 9th, 2007 at 6:39 pm
Naz,I don`t want R.Babel for 13million
367. fu | July 9th, 2007 at 6:40 pm
why the fuck are people attacking gallas and standing up for that prick fabegras. gallas wants us to challenge whereas that other cunt wants to leave, let him fuck off, make gallas captain
368. paulie | July 9th, 2007 at 6:42 pm
here we go, another one thinks the 13 mil is coming out of his own fuckin pocket
369. paulie | July 9th, 2007 at 6:46 pm
what the fuck do you care, 13 mil is nothing to a club like arsenal, would you rather we bought a few more fuckin 16 year olds, at least babels a good player and i dont see us signing too many at the moment
370. WillyG | July 9th, 2007 at 6:47 pm
Paulie, you ass.Its not coming out of my pocket but for that money we should get a better player and I made the point about 13million coz the last time Arsenal spend that kind of money on one player, was on Wiltord so we money tighten coz about the depth.I don`t expect Wenger to throw away 13million on Babel(6million good not more)
371. gunnershabz | July 9th, 2007 at 6:50 pm
£13.5m
u mite as well get florent malouda
but ryan babel has got potential and i can see him being the “next theirry henry”
if we lose him to liverpool il be gutted
372. paulie | July 9th, 2007 at 6:53 pm
willy g speaking of asses id like to stick my booth up your fuckin ass and knock a bit of sense into you
373. paulie | July 9th, 2007 at 6:55 pm
gunnershabz you’re right but unfortunately malouda isnt available anymore
374. WillyG | July 9th, 2007 at 6:56 pm
Alot of sens spending 13million on Babel
you should be next Arsenal manger….stupid
375. arnold | July 9th, 2007 at 6:57 pm
forget about babel he doesnt impress me at all
we need winger that can play both forward and left mid babel to me wound score goals more then 8 to me but he can make goals for other players
i hope arsene wenger is’nt thinking about strow allot of money on shit winger like babel, robinho, the porto lad, i believe if arsene can get a south americain lad like tevez ill be ok
376. paulie | July 9th, 2007 at 7:01 pm
well if he dont impress you arnie or you willie then fuck it we best not get him so the rest of us can just go fuck ourselves
377. gunnershabz | July 9th, 2007 at 7:04 pm
ryan babel at £13.5m
robinho was at £12m but his performance now, i dont know around £15
ricardo querasma is around £18m
yoan gouffran at £3.2m
andres guadardo at £5m
angel di maria at £3m
which one u think wenger will go for??
378. mike hunt | July 9th, 2007 at 7:04 pm
grimster AKA gilles grimandi one of wengers early signings after remi garde and patrick vierra..
gouffran was a recomondation of his to wenger last year!
also what made the grimster a legend was a sending off against barcelona in champs league and in D bergkamps testimonial the hacking down of that cheating then totteringham cunt e davids…when he was clear on goal with an open goal…
379. WillyG | July 9th, 2007 at 7:05 pm
Paulie,I tought that Babel would be Arsenal`s 1st signing this season but at that price I can understand Wenger pulling out of the deal.On the other hand Liverpool can spend money for fun at the moment and not to mention their luck at selling Bellamy and Cisse for 16-18million.Babel is good but I would prefer Robinho much more
380. gunnershabz | July 9th, 2007 at 7:05 pm
if wenger believes ryan babel is in the “henry” league, then he will spend £13m on him no doubt
robinho in jan was worth £12m, real even said but now he has improved a lot and including his copa america performances £16m i think
381. mike hunt | July 9th, 2007 at 7:05 pm
i think its on you tube somewhere if you haven’t seen…..A CLASSIC
382. gunnershabz | July 9th, 2007 at 7:07 pm
newcastle player charles n’zogbia, wenger had admired him
could be him
daniel calvalho of cska moscow, could be him the next player
383. gunnershabz | July 9th, 2007 at 7:08 pm
simao sabrosa could be available at £10m
royston drenthe at £10m
384. WillyG | July 9th, 2007 at 7:09 pm
We chould cut the price by involving Reyes,as for D.Calvalho he is good too, another player worth as much as 13million is Mancini of Roma(remember his goal vs Lyon)
385. paulie | July 9th, 2007 at 7:10 pm
id prefer robinho but we aint gonna get him and didnt babel say he wants to jion us, for me thats a big plus because im sick to fuck of hearing about players wanting to leave us
386. WillyG | July 9th, 2007 at 7:10 pm
In my opinion R.Drenthe was better then Babel in the Euro U21
387. WillyG | July 9th, 2007 at 7:12 pm
I understand your frustration Paulie.I too would like another 2 or 3 new signings….but we can`t afford to spend most of the budget on Babel(He would not make instant impact)
388. paulie | July 9th, 2007 at 7:18 pm
de silva wont make an instant impact either willy, he looks good but you know how long its gonna take him to adapt, surely to fuck we must be getting a big super player in soon, could it be that theres nobody coming and we’re going to have to listen about the future again this season
389. Apologists Heaven | July 9th, 2007 at 7:30 pm
´Nothing will happen in the transfer market for us until La Liga ends. AW is waiting to sign a super-class player from there´
July 9: Arsene Wenger has signed nobody but a budget Brazilian to add to a wonderful squad that finished fourth and lost out in Europe to PSV.
390. George Costanza | July 9th, 2007 at 7:31 pm
Our transfer activity / communication to the fans has been a complete joke so far for a club like the Arsenal.
I think the plan is to wait until all the decent players have been bought by teams with ambition and an interest in actually competing. Then Wenger will turn around and say “I will only buy someone if they will improve us, and there is nobody out there”.
Every year it is the same - we wait and watch as teams end up with players who we are linked with / show an interest in, because they are prepared to pay what it costs. We arent talking silly money here, Paulie is spot on 13.5M for an international like Malouda is fuck all - especially when you sell your captain without a word of explanation to the fans and proceed to rake in 30M FROM SALES ALONE.
When are people going to stop making excuses and claiming these players arent good enough. They are good enough for Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern, Man utd but not us it seems, absolute bollocks. Basically we want top class players for happy shopper prices and it stinks, we have 30M when the gypsy goes, before the board even give AW any funds ( dont laugh ).
Whether they are world class isnt the point, every player we have missed out on would have improved our team and given us a stronger squad than last year, aswell as giving us genuine width that we lacked all season. Are you seriously telling me that Ribery, Malouda, Babel or Quaresma isnt an improvement on Hleb, an unproven Walcott or god forbid Freddie Ljungberg.
If we were skint then fair enough, you cant spend what you havent got, but the board claimed money was there before we started selling our captain and fringe players, so thats roughly 40M+ depnding on the budget from the board.
Its about time we were given answers as to where our money is going, cos it doesnt appear to be going where it should be - ON THE TEAM.
Call this “bedwetting” if you like, If thats what you call a genuine fan who is behind AW all the way, but is at a loss to explain why we never compete for the better players even now, when we have the money, then so be it.
Finally am I the only person wondering where Wenger is regarding this Cesc business. He should be issuing a statement saying ” Cesc is not for sale at any price “, that would end any speculation right there, but we have nothing from him the same as we have nothing about why our captain was sold.
Can you imagine Fergie / Mourinho / Benitez allowing Madrid to carry on like this, it makes us look a small club who just sells when the price is high enough. We have heard nothing from anyone at the club ( though where Hillwood is concerned thats a blessing ) confirming we arent selling Cesc and telling Madrid where to go.
391. tommy | July 9th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
we better get in a couple of decent finished players, i cant go through another season like last, its like someone stuck a knife in me every time we get beat after having 50 chances and scoring nothing. i cant take it i just cant anymore agggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
392. paulie | July 9th, 2007 at 7:37 pm
george you saved me having to write a big long post. you said it for me 100 per cent
393. WillyG | July 9th, 2007 at 7:38 pm
Peter Hill Wood did conferm that Wenger is trying to get a new player, tought I am a bit afriad that we will not sign a winger(I`m praying we get Robinho)
394. Horty | July 9th, 2007 at 7:39 pm
I am on holiday in Barcelona right now and I can only now truly realize what a complete cock-up the Henry transfer was. I went to the Barcelona megastore in the Nou Camp yesterday, and all the Henry shirts in stock sold out within 3 hours I was told They ordered a second pile of emergency stock and that was gone too 1 hour later.
Barca have informed that Henry´s shirt is outselling Ronaldinho by 3-1 and Eto by 6-1.
Barca also believe that shirt sales and marketing rights mean that Henry´s proitability will pay off the whole transfer fee and most wages by itself by the end of 2007. So basically, Arsenal have gift-wrappe an already brilliant team with another outstanding player. It is so unprofessional and incompetent. But that is quite symptomatic of the board and manager I would say. Quite what AW is thinking offering that little turd Cesc the vice-captaincy ahead of Kolo…says it all about how he daddies them. Which would explain why he made Henry´s move to Barca so easy for him! And the board offer AW a four-year extension with get-out clause and fat pay-rise? Really? In any big club Wenger woulda been out of a job long long ago. Mind you, this board are only interested in one thing. Fleecing the fans and getting 4th place on the lowest budget possiblt and MAKING MONEY ON TRANSFERS (!),
This has been waiting to happen for two years yet Wenger continues to watch rivals snap up the best players going its crazy. Its all kicking off now anyway and I agree with ron´s predictions except small tweak:
1) United
2) Chelski
3) Pool
4) Spuds
5) Arsenal
6) Newcastle (Everton?)
395. WillyG | July 9th, 2007 at 7:42 pm
What about Real Madrid they made over300million profit off Becks
396. paulie | July 9th, 2007 at 7:44 pm
dont be suprised to see fabegras going, any other club with this cesc situation id be glad to see the back of him cause hes a whining disloyal little cunt, but fact is hes a good player and we need him so i gotta put up with the little fuck, cause we’re the arsenal and nowadays we dont replace good players we sell, we just buy a couple of kids and say that in 5 or 6 years they’ll be the biz, well fuck that shit ive had enough of it

401. munitionsman | July 9th, 2007 at 7:51 pm
we were shit last year cos of injuries but FFS chelsea had injuries too and got two trophies and finished second. Because they spent and bought all the best players. And anyway who cares if babel cost 13.5mil or 20 OR WHATEVER??? In 5 years he will be worth 30 after AW trains him. Its called an investment …….. hellooooooo
Players dont become worthless remember, you buy, you give them some fuckin ambition and then they stay loyal and increase in value then you sell them for the same price or more 5 years later. BUT if you slowly get worse and worse year by year pretty soon nobody will want to come for any amount of money. So lets get real here

I understand your frustration.Wenger said he will get 2 world class players(I don`t think so but again if we can get Robinho i`m happy)……..I belive the Premiership is the toughest league surely with even team like M.City,Tottenham,Aston.Villa,Everton improving and it shown over the last 3 league season as we finished way off the leaders.I hope Wenger gives us fans what we deserve coz we are unhappy coz we haven`t seen the World Class players we were promised, instead its Chelsea,Liverpoll and M.Utd who have signed them while our Highest Profile player Left

help!!!! please come back Paddy… all is forgiven… you are a big name… please come back Thierry… you are a big name… please come back Bobby…. you are a big name… I will ignore that all of you are 30 and past your best… my MATES are laughing at me…
my Chelsea mates are bragging about signing an Arsenal reject and several free transfers… laughing that Terry and Lampard have not yet signed contracts… laughing that Robben is flirting with Real Madrid… laughing that the club have turned off the money tap…
my United mates are bragging about buying 2 kids no one has ever seen play football and a Canadian defensive midfielder… oh and they delighted their club have become embroiled in the Tevez shit show
my Liverpool mates are bragging that their club has sold 3 or 4 first team players and bought a £20m striker who scores 12 goals a season as well as 7 penalties
I dont have sp*rs mates… but they just bought an average striker for £16m, a teenaged fullback and a defender no one has ever heard of… but they will DEFINITELY finish above us as Van Persie would never get into the sp*rs side, nor Adebayor, nor Eduardo, nor Walcott, nor Bendtner. Rosicky and Hleb would sit on the sp*rs bench… Gilberto MIGHT be better than Zokora but Cesc wouldnt play… nor Diaby… nor Denilson… Fran Merida is an overhyped kid (Gareth Bale, Nani, Anderson?)
THE SKY is falling!
407. George Costanza | July 9th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Cheers Paulie, Its no fun writng stuff like that believe me, but things are just getting beyond a joke now and we need to face facts.
If we lose Babel to Liverpool, after the player basically begged to come to us then we have every right to ask what is going on. How come he is good enough for Liverpool but not for us?
People will say he’s average and unproven, shite - he’s 20yrs old and under Wenger could be anything he wants and he’s already a Dutch regular international.
I’ll tell you whats average - Ljungberg, Adebayor, Senderos, Hoyte, Eboue, Lehmann, Almunia, Flamini and I’m not even going to mention how many uprovens we’ve got.
All these players we are missing out on are easily good enough for us, and we need to wake up and realise we will never have class players unless we pay the going rate. If we dont then others will and we will just fall further behind.
Gallas is dead right what he is saying ( though I’d prefer it done in private though ), he hasnt got 5 yrs left and wants to play in a competetive team now - is that too much to ask for? He looks around and sees other clubs bringing in top quality and has every right to ask - why arent we?
We call ourselves a big club, so when are we going to start acting like one. AW has never spent big money, but up until now he has never had to has he? Until Romans billions changed the game, then we only had to challenge Manutd every year. Now we will be very lucky to finish top4 with this squad.
Look at the facts, since we started letting players go and replacing them with potential rather than proven quality, we have finished 12, 24 and 21pts off top spot. There was no improvement last year apart from a CC run in which the kids did us proud but won nothing. We were out of everything by March and lost to PSV ffs.
There is no suggestion that things will be any better this season, going on our transfer business so far. While other clubs are making a statement of intent, we are waiting for the prices to drop even though the best players will be gone.
We have no ambition, Dein saw it, Henry saw it, Gallas sees it, Cesc sees it and I think now Wenger sees it, as he’s given no sign that he will renew. I was expecting 2/3 top players to lift the club, and also the present squad into believing we could compete, but I dont even think we are bothered anymore as long as we get top4 and pay the stadium debt off.
I just cant believe the state we have allowed our selves to get in, when only 3yrs ago we went unbeaten all season?
408. Samuel | July 9th, 2007 at 8:43 pm
Ok, I am slowly starting to get fucked off with Arsenal.
I have been a supporter long enough to remember finishing in the bottom half of the table, in fact I became one when we were a distinctly average midtable team so I’m no glory hunter. But fuck me we need to do something. This is not about being glory hunting scum, I don’t think I’ve ever met an arsenal supporter of the kind, they are all united or chelsea fans.
We need width and we need a replacement for Henry. We need to either buy someone to boost our defense or to get a coach to sort it out. I am going to wait till a while after copa america till I panic and start calling for wenger to resign, but I think if we don’t do anything, I will.
Paying 13million for Babel is not the answer though. He was a bit rubbish as a 6million player, why the fuck pay more than double that a month later?
Price tags don’t make players, their performances for arsenal do. However, they need to be able to buy purchased and put our fucking shirt on first.
409. Gelbs | July 9th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
Sooner people realise the better. We are shit, we are finished. This is the only summer I can recall where all the top teams have strengthened (summer isn’t even over yet neither) significantly and Arsenal haven’t and not likely to neither. I hope Liverpool actually get Babel just so it proves what a bunch of cunts we have become. Under Wenger and the Board, it will NOT get any better. Maybe in parts the team will improve in certain elements, but as whole we are heading into mid-table mediocricy. What a joke lol.
410. Samuel | July 9th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
George, I agree with a lot of what you say but concerning this:
“People will say he’s average and unproven, shite - he’s 20yrs old and under Wenger could be anything he wants and he’s already a Dutch regular international.
I’ll tell you whats average - Ljungberg, Adebayor, Senderos, Hoyte, Eboue, Lehmann, Almunia, Flamini and I’m not even going to mention how many uprovens we’ve got. ”
He will still be average. People are excited by Eduardo because he’s got the stats and seems like he could be a success. But that is him. Wenger does buy lots of great players that turn into successes but he also buys ones that aren’t and i’m sure someone can give you a list long enough to prove it. Spending 13 million on someone no-one really thought was good enough at 6 million is just us as supporters panicing, it wouldn’t be an improvement (not to us, not to liverpool).
Also, of all those players, if we buy Sagna, none are essential parts of our team. But Lehmann is still German No.1, Ljungberg still Swedish captain, Eboue and Ade are ‘rough gems’ i geniunely believe will come good. Aluminia, Senderos, Flamini and Hoyte aren’t even second choices in their position though, don’t target these players as the downfall of Arsenal.
411. Simmzy | July 9th, 2007 at 8:55 pm
Hahah 406 you read my mind.
This entire crisis is melodramatics at its best. Yes we need signings, but to think we’re the only club in “crisis” is hilarious. Then to boot, there’s a ton of generalizing idiots who insist on using terms like “bedwetter” and “apologist”.
412. Samuel | July 9th, 2007 at 8:56 pm
Gelbs, we aren’t finished, we will just become stagnant. No team can seriously fight for that fourth place and Liverpool haven’t “seriously strengthened” they have just bought more underwhelming overpriced players like they always do. We will be with Liverpool as that “team that always comes close, but never close enough”.
I am watching Three Colours Blue for the first time and the resemblance is astounding. We are French, sold off all our things and befriended a hooker. Still yet to see how it ends.
413. Giho | July 9th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
Samuel:
What are the chances that your entire existence as an Arsenal supporter is dependent on success? Is that why you’re so afraid of decline, because you’re only used to success? Which team will you support when Arsenal’s inevitable decline takes its toll? Real Madrid?

418. Samuel | July 9th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
417 thank you. Surely if my support for Arsenal was based surely on success, I would have upped ship a long time ago. Or not become one in the first place, we were rubbish at the time compared to now.
On the other hand, I seem to be one of the only people that think a final and a champions league place every season is relative success.
I’ll just wait for you all to kill me for that last comment.
419. George Costanza | July 9th, 2007 at 9:43 pm
Samuel #410,
I know you know your stuff and I generally agree with alot of what you say, but how can you say Babel wouldnt improve us?
Do you want to start the season with Helb and Rosicky, who are natural central playmakers, an unproven Walcott or worst of the lot - the walking corpse AKA Freddie Ljungberg.
I would take Babel anytime, and he will only improve at 20yrs old and is tipped for greatness by VanBasten among others. Any transfer is a gamble ffs, you dont get any guarantees and some work some dont, look at Veron, Reyes etc quality players who just didnt work out in our league.
If we have the money then why not gamble once or twice, or to put it better - a calculated risk. As someone said earlier a player like Babel will only increase in value, so we would likely get our money back or more anyway should he fail to settle.
Is it not a bigger risk signing some U21 South american who would take a season to adapt, just because he’s cheaper - which is what we all know we’ll end up with ( reports are that we’ve actually signed Angel DiMaria ? ). This is getting out of hand mate, we dont need any more potential / kids who we can make into stars. We need proven ability like Babel, Malouda, Ribery, Queresma who are all international players for a reason.
If we need to pay a bit more and we have it, then so what - its our money not Wengers wifes housekeeping ffs. Why shouldnt we want proper players when we know we have the money there from sales anyway, we cant plead poverty anymore, it just wont wash.
AW promised us superclass players and unless he delivers, then we’ve clearly been lied to in order to renew our season tickets.
By the way Jens ( Every setpiece is a pantomime ) Lehmann is a liability who inspires panic in his defence rather than calm now. Ljungberg is also past it and is only here because no-one else will pay him 70K a week for fuck all in return.
I wasnt picking on these players just highlighting how much crap we have in our squad, when people ridiculously claim that Malouda, Ribery etc arent good enough, its nonsense and we need to wake up.
420. Samuel | July 9th, 2007 at 10:05 pm
“Is it not a bigger risk signing some U21 South american who would take a season to adapt, just because he’s cheaper - which is what we all know we’ll end up with ( reports are that we’ve actually signed Angel DiMaria ? ). This is my problem. Babel shouldn’t be grouped with these players, he should be grouped with Anderson, Walcott. He is young and unproven and would also take a season. One of these south americans would be the same as signing Babel. Seriously, of what i’ve heard of di Maria, he is of the same quality and potential as Babel, but 10 million cheaper. Both will take the same time to settle, both can be used as a left winger or a striker, but one’s cheaper and not going to be at liverpool.
I have been calling for action concerning our wings as much as anyone and only believe that if we were to start the season with Hleb and Rosicky it would be in a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 in which they aren’t relied on for width and can play a more central role they are better at.
Side-note: I don’t understand why people think Eduardo may be used as a left winger. He scored 34 goals from inside the box last season, I don’t understand how people think he will be our man far outside it?

424. Booba | July 9th, 2007 at 10:39 pm
I don´´t understand why everyone is getting so animated. Arsenal? We don´t NEED Malouda…Ribery…Eto…Torres…Tevez…They are ´not good enough´for Arsenal! No way are they good enough for us! Why we have stars like Flamini, Senderos, Hleb, Clichy, Hoyte and Adebayor! Who needs big-time players then eh? Between them, the like of Clichy and Flamini, Senderos have many WC finals and international experience! Yes! At Arsenal ´we make players, we do not sign them´! And then we sell them to Real or Barca! And more good news. After keeping true to his word that he could ´gurantee 100% that Henry will start the next season with Arsenal´…and promising us ´super-super class´players, I am pleased to announce that Mr Wenger has delivered!:
——————————————————————————
`Arsenal have secured the services of Rui Fonte on a 3 year deal.
The 17 year old former Sporting Lisbon striker spent last season on loan at Arsenal, where he impressed greatly in the club’s reserves.
The youngster is now expected to make the step up to first team squad member and is delighted at having won a permanent deal at the club, telling the News of the World:
“I am very pleased and expect it to go well. I want to show my quality and prove myself here.”
425. James | July 9th, 2007 at 10:47 pm
GS: ´We´re waiting Arsene´?
You´ll still be waiting in fifteen years for the kids to ´mature´, for ´RVP and Henry to be both fully fit´, for the ´stadium to be fully paid off´ and for Arsene to ´know´.
I would take a seat if I were you. The wait for Arsenal´s next league title or first-ever CL trophy might be a very long one indeed. Wenger and this board made much of what this club wa today. They have similarly also been responsible for taking it down the pan. We are slowly but surely sliding back to the dark old days and this will only really hit home with some of you after Arsenal miss out on Champions League football. If it does not happen this season, it will happen the next. We´ve been saying ´next season´for 3 years now and I expect to hear this a lot more.
This board are a liberty and laughing and mocking the fans.

THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!
Liverpool are linked to players we have scouted 100 times and decided against buying for talent related reasons…
ARSENAL IS DOOMED!!!!!!!!!!
Bayern Munich bought an absolutely average attacking midfielder who was ribbish or bribery depending on your humour..who they also overpaid for… but he was Henry’s MATE… FUCK!!!! we missed our chance to add some decidedly average talent to the side….
And (will the misery ever end?!??!) we missed out on French Player of the Year and even moreso decidely average Malouda.. OH NO!!! He was player of the year… like CYGAN… OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Malouda was JUST what we needed… clearly better than Rosicky…
United bought…
2 kids with no discernable international stature
1 Canadian defensive midfielder
and (may or may not) LOAN a south American forward
this time last year Arsenal bought (please notice the obvious “difference”)
Rosicky (Nani.. HAHAHAHAH)
Denilson (Anderson… but 6 months younger and included in the FULL Brazil squad in Nov 2006… while Anderson plays in a Kaka free side in a mickey mouse competition)
Gallas (Hargreaves… Gallas should shut up, but at least he’s not Canadian)
and we loaned a SOUTH AMERICAN FORWARD
THE SKY IS FALLING!!! United are the BEST!!!!
what time do all of you have? My watch has 9th of July… we the transfer window CLOSES “SOON” …
THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!!!!!
we’re never going to sign ANYONE .. ever again… like last year when we signed Denilson (he’s CLEARLY SHIT…) at the death of the deadline… let’s sell Denilson… or swap for Zokora… yes, we should get Zokora…
Arsenal is not just in crisis… we’re FUCKED…. our 60400 odd stadium is going to be empty now… and then sp*rs will buy our ground and we’ll have to start again in Woolwich..
FUCK
GET ME OUT OF HERE… look up!!! Can you all see it?!?!?!? THE fucking SKY IS FALLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sp*rs bought Marcus Bent… or was it Darren… either way… now that sp*rs bought him… I have realised that in spite of Bent being relegation fodder… he is EXACTLY what the Arsenal need… he’s MUCH better than Adebayor and Van Persie… why dont WE ever buy top quality 23 year old strikers with 2 caps for England (no goals… but I didnt have to tell you that)
THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!!!!!!
427. Swerver | July 9th, 2007 at 11:02 pm
Di Maria does not have a place on Argentina’s U-20 First team. I am not sure what it means but he is not dominant at U-20 WC. Vela looks pretty solid, lots of skill and potential. But I would say he has at least a few years before he will make any contribution. Just my obsevations from WC. Chile looks really good.
428. Dave | July 9th, 2007 at 11:03 pm
I have a little question to all Gunners out there who are happy with our current situation: Can it be possible that even the Scousers have a much stronger squad than us now? I can only wonder, take for example the central midfield position: Alonso, Gerrard, Mascherano, Sissoko. Sounds very strong to me. Stronger than anything Arsenal could put in there at the moment. With Torres, Crouch and Kuyt they also have three different types of strikers who can complement each other well. Liverpool have only to buy one worldclass winger and they can right challenge for the title while we need reinforcements in how many positions exactly?

you are right we have become mickey mouse? players like hleb freddie etc have no competition and know that they will be playing no matter what?
people go on about how we missed henry van persie gallas etc..
but they all started the season yet we were already out of the title by then, only by beating utd and home games against reading sheff ytd were we given false hope..
this team squad is simply not good enough , wenger should either sign now a new contract or be sacked!
but this board will not do that to the hand that feeds them!
if we were a plc then they would all be ousted on the basis of NO CONFIDENCE from the shareholders(the fans)(us)
but lucky for them we are not and they can do what they like ..
i said many many tim,es they are not football people but marketing men and building developers, not disputing them as buisiness people but as football men……hahahahahahahaa. no chance.
while they still remain at the helm , ok we will pay of the stadium with sky money and emirates deal and other sponsership deals, but be a major force..i don’t think so, expect us to go back to the dark dark days of the early 80,s as a cup team looking on in envy of liverpool forest villa and even the spuds back then were no 1 in north london!

lot of chat about should we buy this guy or that guy, FFS we need to buy that guy AND that guy. I love the players we have, rosicky and hleb are class, ade is a real threat and better than bent, but we are too thin to compete, and historically physically fragile, prolly due to youth. so we need to buy, not to replace our great players, neither should we compare potential signings to our current players, but we should be supporting our current players, at the stadium, on the blog, and in the fuckin transfer window. Stop hangin our boys out to dry.

Ali, you’re trying to make up for the fact you started “supporting” Arsenal in Wenger’s era, ya? Don’t support your own sort.
Thought so.

I want Tevez, Torres, Ribery and Malouda at Arsenal. Why couldn’t Wenger buy these type of players? Especially Tevez would have been worldclass for us but Wenger decided against him because of his strange ethical sense. Doom him.

Talk some sense Mike, there is no such things as sack the board.
Get a life

Goonah is the only one with a rational thought on this blog. He’s emulating exactly what every other club is doing, hysterical bullshit.
Incase you haven’t noticed, arguments on the Internet don’t fix anything.

Yes we do need Tevez, i know the complication involve in his ownership, but Wenger can sort that out. What i don’t understand is, Wenger and Co not even trying to get hold of someone of Tevez calibre and allow Man Utd the chance to sneak under our noses. Is a shame for us to be the least competence side to challenge for top honours. Look now, we are behind Liverpool, Chelsea, Man U. I know the likes of Spurs, Bolton also spending big, as a big as a club like Arsenal, we should be able to afford a big name signing since Henry has left. Is only reasonable for the board not just to satisfy us, but to continue to show urge and ambition to challenge for titles.

Travel to Peru…
The front door of Peru: “Lima”, is a beautiful post card. The modern and the ancient style contrasts all the time in all places. The hispanic colonization engrave a gothic, renascent and baroque atmosphere in all the constructions, not only religious…
