How to have a relaxing Saturday, by Gunnerblog

0 guns February 24th, 2007

I don’t know about you, but all this Carling Cup Final hype is making me nervous. My advice? Ignore the stories about Ashley Cole’s return to fitness, turn away from the hundredth set of quotes we’ve seen about Baptista wanting to stay with us, scoff at Kolo Toure’s assertion that we are stronger in the face of adversity, and glance over Theo Walcott’s past as a Chelsea ball boy.

Instead, why don’t you head down to the pub to cheer on Fulham in a 12.45 kickoff against Man U? Then come home, pop on the radio, or try and find a decent stream to watch West Ham and Charlton scrap it out to decide just who is the worse manager: Pardew or Curbishley.

Then at half five, put your feet up and watch a bit of egg-chasing, with England facing Ireland. It’s always good to watch England lose at any sport - there’s a cathartic bliss to be drawn from the failure of one’s own national side. It’s just lovely having someone to be annoyed at. That’s why Steve McClaren is so useful.

Failing that, you could just sit and bite your nails all day. Your call.

Really hoping to kick some chav butts tomorrow. As for today, well as normal im stuck in my shitty little office in a shitty little sand and gravel quarry for the morning. This afternoon will be spent running around so that all of sunday’s jobs are done so I can get on with enjoying the match!!
I am a little concerned about Traore versus wright-phillips/ Robben. He has the pace to deal with them but I fear he lacks the trickery of Clichy. If he is given support from the likes of Diaby [as he received against the spuds], he will be ok; but if he is isolated then he will struggle.

By the way Gilberto, that was a class pic. in yesterdays post!

Still have my reservations about this moderation malarkey; I know why you’re doing it, but it has taken away the spontanaeity and humour that used to make this site a welcome relief to my very boring day… even Bloghead was welcome company most of the time!!!

  • 7. ChickenBoy  |  February 24th, 2007 at 10:05 am

Why did the chicken cross the road?

To get to the other side.

    Arsenal 3 - 0 Chelsea

    Baptista
    Denilson
    Rosicky

  • 8. Top Gunner  |  February 24th, 2007 at 10:27 am

i think its gonna be a close game, but it will be hard for traore if he comes up against pace. We will win 2-1

  • 9. Top Gunner  |  February 24th, 2007 at 10:35 am

By the way i think this moderation is only good when gilberto is around to do it. otherwise you have to wait 5 hours like yesterday for some new comments

arsenal will not lose!! they’re gonna make chelsea smoke ether dat stuff dat makes their soul burn!!

  • 13. Gelbs  |  February 24th, 2007 at 11:50 am

I don’t think Arsenal have a chance tomorrow. Well, they do, but if Wenger goes for 4-4-2 and has Diaby and Walcott on the wings then you might as well forget it. And if Baptista doesn’t start, then that is completely unfair and harsh on him seeing as he is the topscorer in the competition. I would have Aliadiere on one of the wings and have Bap and Ade up front. I’ll go 2-0 Chelsea. And another defeat in a cup final for Wenger. Won 4, lost 4 lol.

  • 14. Herbert Chapman  |  February 24th, 2007 at 12:51 pm

I agree that i’d like to see Adebayor and Baptista start with Aliadiere on the wing. The only problem there is the lack of options off the bench. Having Aliadiere or Adebayor coming off the bench could change the game if needed.
Theres nothing i want to see more than the chavs losing a final they expect to win.

  • 15. tubes  |  February 24th, 2007 at 12:54 pm

Gelbs - you seem delighted in the fact that arsene has lost 4 finals, you must really hate the bloke with a passion as i never see (remember) you writing anything positive about him, we may well lose tomorrow but the bottom line is, is that its the carling cup, were gonna be playing with kids / reserves against a full strength chelsea side which cost somewhere in the region of 300million to assemble and if you watch closely enough at the end of the game if chelsea have won, no matter what the score was, or the performance was like, you will see 30,000 people cheering and applauding the arsenal players…… there called supporters and that is how you support your club Gelbs.

Oh no, John Terry’s back! :(

Not delighted at all. And I have praised Wenger for what he has done. But unfortunately, the past 2 seasons there hasn’t been any real cause to praise Wenger. 2 seasons of not winning anything significant possibly? That doesn’t deserve praise or positiveness in my book. As Respects once said on something Wenger stated about Madrid. Can’t remember what it was. Something on the lines of it is completely unacceptable for a big club to go years without winning the title or anything of significance. Well, it has been 3 years since a league title, and no CL titles neither as of yet.

The medical staff at cfc must either be miracle workers or useless idiots, to say he had torn ligaments. And robeen has also made a remarkable recovery to. :(

The nerves/exitement has just started to kick in. I can’t wait.

  • 20. Dave  |  February 24th, 2007 at 5:10 pm

Great that Bulldog will play. Playing unfit he will pick up an other injury and be out for years. If we beat them tomorrow, they will lose two titles within a week as the Premier League is all the Mancs now. Furthermore Wenger must rectify his poor record against the cunt. Fat Frank says he wants revenge for 2002. I say, we want revenge for the three defeats we suffered against them last season and for the bitter Champions League pill in 2004. Especially the 0-2 against them at Highbury was very painful for me since I attended that game. It’s really time that we beat them. Liverpool did, the Mancs did and even Spuds did it this season.

  • 21. Top Gunner  |  February 24th, 2007 at 6:24 pm

what is this shit about terry. On wednesday he ‘ Ruptures ligaments” and then on saturday he is declared fit to play. Something is very dodgy. i have a feeling that robben and terry are not fully fit, therefore wont play to the best of their abilities and may get injured again.

  • 22. Gunner 8  |  February 24th, 2007 at 7:56 pm

terry, robben, and cuntley cunt are all fit… …I hope they all start and that they all get carried off after 5mins with season ending casulties

    Come on the Arse!

  • 23. guzeppe  |  February 24th, 2007 at 9:03 pm

Crikey.Half a billion to assemble the Chavs and still Mourinho gives a place to Terry, Robben, C**e.It must surely be galling to the remaining players that Moaninho prefers players just returning from injuries or half fit and they dont play. Although sometimes I agree with Gelbs regarding tactics I feel that at least for Arsene the player’s health comes first and winning comes second not the other way round.

  • 24. gazzap  |  February 24th, 2007 at 10:06 pm

i think Terry could easily get injured again. that injury, which I thought looked bad, cannot be 100% healed in 3 days. no way (jose).

I agree with gelbs in so far as we should go with ade and beast up top and ali on wing instead of walcott. we are here to win a trophy not to give walcott a bit of experience with some first teamers. I agree that those who have not played like Henry should not play tomorrow but I think wenger should go with a team that he thinks will win. walcott can come on later and we have seen that he has a bigger impact as a sub than starting. wenger cant hope walcott suddenly comes to life tomorrow, he must go with proven players like either Hleb or rosicky.

so my midfield to start is rosicky, densilon, diaby and aliadiere.

  • 25. Gunner 8  |  February 24th, 2007 at 11:24 pm

    I would wish for

    ——————-Manuel Almunia
    Djourou——–Kolo———Swiss Tony——-Clichy
    ———————–Gilberto
    Hleb——-Denilson———–Diaby———-Aliardiere
    ————————-Beast

    and 2nd half

    ——————-Manuel Almunia
    Djourou——–Kolo———Swiss Tony——-Clichy
    Hleb———Denilson———–Csesc———Rosicky
    ———————–Beast
    ——————————–Adebayor

  • 26. Gelbs  |  February 24th, 2007 at 11:33 pm

I think it will be most likely this team and formation:-

    —————–Almunia——-
    Hoyte—-Toure——Senderos——Traore

    ——Denilson–Gilberto—–Diaby——

    Walcott——————————–Aliadiere

    ——————Baptista—————–

And subs being Rosicky, Adebayor, Fabregas, Poom & Gallas.

  • 30. Blue Champion  |  February 25th, 2007 at 8:23 am

This is in response to comment #22 by Gunner 8.

What kind of football fan you are to hope that the opposition players would get stretchered off, and that too with season ending injuries. Very very poor mentality. So many gooners have this mentality. You have a good team and a good manager and a great stadium. With some good football, you should be able to record wins.

Gunner 8 - you are bad, your mentality is bad, your expectations are ugly. For this comment #22 of yours, Chelsea will demolish Arsenal today. Get lost!

Gilberto Silver - If there is any fairness in this blog, please publish this comment. At least, there is no abuse from me at all.

In his book, Willie ends the first Chapter with this ominous sentence, “Sometimes I’ ve had to make it very clear that when it comes to maintaining power, I’ m not kidding.” (p. 15) Then you turn the page and in big letters is “Chapter Two: Willie Brown is NOT kidding.” An example of this power protection prowess was displayed when Willie arranged for the defeat of an insignificant bill in the Assembly to punish an Assemblyman who had cooperated with the FBI in an investigation involving corruption in the…
