The sad story of Danny Karbassiyoon

0 guns February 13th, 2007

When Danny Karbassiyoon signed for Arsenal in July 2004, he was a highly rated American forward of Iranian/Italian parentage. During his time at the club, his versatility was put to good use as he converted to left-back, making several appearances in the Carling Cup, including scoring an absolute pearl against Man City on his debut.

However, with Ashley Cole and Gael Clichy ahead of him his opportunities were always limited. He went out on loan to Ipswich where he proved a significant success, before eventually signing for Burnley in June 2005.

A spate of knee problems proved his undoing there, and after a difficult first year and unsuccessful trial with AZ Alkmaar, he found himself without a club this season. Crucially, the knee problems worsened, and now, tragically, at the age of just 22, it seems Karbassiyoon’s career is over:

“Some of you may know now if I’ve been able to tell you and some may still be wondering what exactly it is that is going on with my knee, soccer, the draft, the MLS, going back to England, and so on. As stupid as it is to find out through a facebook note, I figure its the easiest way to let everyone know without leaving anyone out…that is of course if you even bothering reading this, which is totally up to you.

I’ve been to DC and Miami since I came home in September to see different doctors and get different opinions regarding my knee. Unfortunately, all the docs I’ve spoken with share the same thoughts in terms of the state of my knee: another operation wouldn’t guarantee anything but could possibly be a temporary cure. They said on top of that, another operation, if i continue playing, would be inevitable in a couple years if that long. So, already I’m looking at least 2 more operations to continue playing and horrible knee problems when I get older.

As hard as it is to just walk away from playing soccer, I’m trying to be as sensible as I can for my future. Soccer gave me so much and allowed me to meet so many interesting people, while taking me all around the world and I would never trade that for anything.

Most of all though, I just wanted to say thank you to anyone and everyone that helped me get to where I was and where I am. From my family to my best friends to the people that I’ve met through facebook, myspace, and other means, I really appreciate all the support and words of encouragement you’ve given me over the past five or six years. I’d never have had the strength to keep going with out you guys and I mean it. So as I sit here at a huge crossroads of my life, awaiting a new challenge and whatnot, I send my thanks, love, and appreciation to all of you and wish you all the success in the world.”

It really is terribly sad to see someone’s career end so young. Karbassiyoon was very well thought of both as a person and a player, and fortunately has had a significant academic education that will serve him well in the rest of his life. Best wishes and good luck from all at Arsenal, Danny.

It makes you realise that when people say Theo Walcott is struggling, you have to at least be thankful that he remains relatively injury free. Arsene has talked about the importance of him reaching 19 without a major injury, and Karbassiyoon is evidence of what can happen should the unthinkable occur.

Continuing to look to the future, we’re reportedly after on-loan Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson. I have to say I’ve been very impressed with him, and whilst there is a lot of fuss over Ben Foster at Watford, Carson is certainly close to him in terms of ability.

I’m sure as the day goes on there will be team news for tomorrow’s FA Cup tie with Bolton. I’d be very, very surprised if Thierry is even in the squad.

    1st Gun ………..

What a sad story for Danny. Hope that would not happen Theo Walcott. God bless you, Theo.

Sad news indeed. Lets just hope he make a success of himself from something else. Best of luck Dan

Hope he gets better. Saw him in a couple of matches and hope he can still play football which would mean so much to a young professional like him. All the very Best Danny.

I remember specifically a game he played at left back for us against Man City in the Carling Cup and he was a revelation after converting from CF. It’s a great shame and I wish him all the luck in the future.

  • 9. Good to be a GOONAH!!  |  February 13th, 2007 at 9:18 am

I remember that game too, Russell… those were the early days of our sending kids to beat Prem sides… we beat Everton’s first team that year (they were 4th at the time) at a canter (3-1, I think… Lupoli brace)

Karbassiyoon was one of our prospects the same way that Lupoli and Quincy once were… how times change, eh?

  • 10. Steve  |  February 13th, 2007 at 9:19 am

I remember an interview he gave, saying what an experience playing at Old Trafford was, with 60000 people shouting ‘who the fucking hell are you?’
Rather poignant piece, is this in preparation for Thursday morning’s blog?

  • 11. SB74  |  February 13th, 2007 at 9:35 am

Maybe Arsenal should try and arrange for Danny Karbassiyoon to get a job with the Colorado Rapids organising the Arsenal Cup or something…….

  • 12. gilf  |  February 13th, 2007 at 9:46 am

On the Carson front, he was magnificent in goal for Charlton when they played at the Emirates. There were chants of “sign him up” from the crowd around me and without him it would have been this years 7-0.

We have a fantastic young squad but Jens was only ever a 3-4 year player given his age, what would be fantastic would be a young keeper for the longer term future of the side.

  • 13. Good to be a GOONAH!!  |  February 13th, 2007 at 9:56 am

I simply can’t see us signing an English keeper with a “reputation”… Jens was the best keeper in the world last year and cost.. what… £1.5m…

we likely couldn’t buy Carson’s right knee for that much

  • 14. Gunnerz  |  February 13th, 2007 at 9:58 am

I hope we sign Carson. I watched the arsenal- charlton game and i cannot believe how he kept the score so flattering, considering we were getting numerous oppurtunities at goal.

  • 15. herdee string  |  February 13th, 2007 at 10:02 am

    correct -

i believe that carson’s left ball is currently on ebay for £2 million -

  • 16. Good to be a GOONAH!!  |  February 13th, 2007 at 10:06 am

I would like Arsenal to sign Igor Akinfeev… he’s the next Yashin and did well against us (HOW DID WE NOT SCORE!!!!) in the CL

  • 17. DeiseGooner  |  February 13th, 2007 at 10:12 am

Igor does sound more like a wenger signing that carson to be honest. We do need someone tho, i just dont trust almunia 100% to be our no1

  • 18. gazzap  |  February 13th, 2007 at 10:16 am

really sad story, but at least he had the life for a little while, which he recognises. I’d give my right arm to play for Arsenal for just one season. good luck to him in the future.

having an English keeper would be good but only if he is good enough. for me, Foster is quite a way ahead of Carson and if we could get him it would be fantastic, but he is a man utd player so what do you think? If we believe carson is not as good as say Akinfeev, Boruc or Craig Gordon then we should not take step down in quality. This is Arsenal and we need the best.

  • 19. Amos  |  February 13th, 2007 at 10:25 am

Doesn’t this story about Carson emerging now, just after the transfer window, suggest that it is more about Carson’s agent putting pressure on Liverpool than anything else?

Myles Palmer watch: a couple of quotes taken from his latest piece of wisdom on Arsenal football club with accompanying comments from me.

“If Arsene Wenger can’t find an English player good enough to play for Arsenal, how will he find an American?”

What process of logic is used to reach that conclusion? Do you really mean that there cannot be any good American players simply because Arsenal hasn’t found enough English players? Why not apply the same logic to African players?

“The silence from Arsenal’s main shareholders is deafening. Danny hasn’t said : My shares are not for sale. Dein hasn’t said : My shares are not for sale. Lady Nina has not said : My shares are not for sale.”

No - and they haven’t said that their shares are for sale either and they haven’t said that they are booked for the next Celebrity Big Brother show and they haven’t said that they aren’t going hang gliding this afternoon. So they must be doing all of those things because they haven’t said they aren’t - but then they haven’t said they are - so doesn’t that must mean they aren’t?

  • 20. ruralgoon  |  February 13th, 2007 at 10:46 am

On the carson thing; the rresident liverpool fan does not rate him at all- reckons he’s an absolute liability and as inconsistent as they come, which doesnt bode well, bearing in mind that the pool’s second choice keeper is the mighty Dudek!
He didnt look particularly assured for the U21’s last week, although as Gunnerz said, he did manage to keep charlton vaguely in the game against us; how inconsistent is that!

  • 21. mrgun  |  February 13th, 2007 at 10:47 am

RESPECT H. Nicely said. An additional point: when Djoruou had his nose rearranged by Hesky’s elbow Gray did not show an iota of empathy. I think his words were to the effect that he as a centre back SHOULD expect that sort of thing as do others across the country. That is the extent of this ’small dicked’ ( NOTW words of a ‘Kiss and Tell’ spanish girl not mine) xenophobe’s cold heartedness.

It’s all pathetic really. RH bring me the petition, let’s sign it and let the neo-con armada know enough is enough

  • 22. Percy Groves  |  February 13th, 2007 at 11:10 am

At least his personal education would have benefited from being at a club that gives the unlucky players a grounding for their future. Im sure the Guvnors work ethihc & application flows down to all levels at the club in a way to set them on the right path through life much more than working for the likes of Pardew, the Walrus or the Hairdryer

  • 23. Percy Groves  |  February 13th, 2007 at 11:12 am

Carson reminded me of a young Dave Seaman when he played for Brum at Highbury many moons ago

  • 24. MarkFlatts  |  February 13th, 2007 at 11:12 am

What a hideously sexist remark from Blog Head who apparently believes that a woman on the board of the club could only be there because she is shagging David Dein and/or is an ‘office bike’. Not so long ago ignorant fools like Blog Head were making ‘harmless jokes’ like this about black people. Now women are an easy target. Sad really.

  • 25. Gunnerz  |  February 13th, 2007 at 11:23 am

Thinking about it now Carson would be good however Akinfeev would be better. For starts he is a year younger, plays for a non- rival club and has champs league experience.

  • 26. Gunnerz  |  February 13th, 2007 at 11:25 am

Also Akinfeev would be a reasonable price and would not have the “english” hype and cost about him

  • 27. Sweet FA  |  February 13th, 2007 at 11:37 am

Its a real shame that we have to scroll through the childish crap that Blog Head has to offer this site *_Respect Highbury a great letter you put together, waiting on that petition. Amos do you know if there’s any truth to Myles actually growing up Spurs fan!

no doubt gonna be another rough ride tom, but it is about time we gave them a wipping at their place..

  • 28. gazzap  |  February 13th, 2007 at 11:38 am

I have seen carson have bad games for charlton on MOTD and the pressure and level expected at Arsenal is considerably higher. I would be concerned that he is not good enough for us. I am sure Wenger would not make a mistake. his scouts will be watching the potential targets closely.

MarkFlatts, you are clearly new to the blog. bloghead is our resident spurs fan who comes on here and spouts offensive bile most days. you kind of get used to it. just ignore him.

  • 29. Lancealittle  |  February 13th, 2007 at 11:42 am

I’m of the opinion that no goalie has the temprament until the are 26 at the youngest, even at that age Arsne can get 10 years out of them. I wouldn’t like to say who should be the next one but I would have thought 6 - 8 years of top flight footy plus some european experience would be necessary and Good to Be’s right about what you can get for so little.
One question though, are the scouts we employ going to be good at spotting the right keeper? They are completely different than out field players, suggest that news of when goalie coaches go to watch matches might give a clue, or possibly if old retirees go watching abroad might help. Have we seen the Spunkmeister in Milan recently?

  • 30. Gunnerz  |  February 13th, 2007 at 11:45 am

Obviously Arsene will have scouts that can find a good keeper and i feel that when the time is right to buy one the right decision will be made

  • 31. *_Respect Highbury  |  February 13th, 2007 at 11:51 am

Carson? £5 mil? No thank you very much.
Gimme Akinfeev any day, a superb keeper with great reflexes and will probably cost less.
Danny K. all the best of luck to you mate. It is always sad to see this sort of thing happen to a promising young player and yes, what a good game you had at City in the Carling Cup!

Anyhow just a completely unrelated point. When you are an obsessive compulsive gambler such as myself you find out these things….did you know that, amongst every team in the major European leagues; that ARSENAL are the team that create the most clear goalscoring opportunities between the 82nd-90th minute?
More than Bayern, more than AC, more than Inter, more than Barca and more than any English side.
Make of that what you will……

P.S MRGUN: Lol at that Spanish senorita claiming Andy Gay had a “small dick”. Any chance you could find a link to that story for me someone? And was Alex Ferguson or Shrek involved too? Lol….
What a wanker Gay is claiming he had no sympathy for Djourou. I remember him weeping on his knees when Sol accidentally “elbowed” Solskjaer in the mouth at Highbury in 2003. Prick.

Myles Palmer must be a spud is my conclusion.

  • 32. Lancealittle  |  February 13th, 2007 at 11:52 am

Gunnerz it would be a pretty slow job, search around for 4 - 5 years the buy someone, then search around for another 8 - 10 years, then buy another one. Great if you like the travel.

  • 33. Percy Groves  |  February 13th, 2007 at 11:53 am

AW’s kepper buying has been a bit dodgy at times tho. Wright, Almunia, Jens has had his moments, Poom??.
Does seem strange Seaman aint the goalkeeping coach

  • 34. naijaman  |  February 13th, 2007 at 11:54 am

Myles Palmer watch II; does he actually even like Arsenal? While most Arsenal fans rightly regarded Henry’s spat with Kirkland as trivial he states
“But Henry’s taunting of Chris Kirkland after the equaliser, holding the ball in the face of a keeper who was on his knees in the box after Fitz Hall’s own-goal had gone past him, was utterly despicable.”
Funny how that puts him in the same camp as Sky and TalkSport. It’s a pity but I now only go to ANR to read Ian Grant’s articles, otherwise all you get are increasingly erratic anti-Arsenal rants (is he turning into Jimmy Hill?)

  • 35. Percy Groves  |  February 13th, 2007 at 11:59 am

Myles may not be evryone’s cup of tea as he is not as rose tinted in his views as we can be. His contributions help to keep things in perspective and make for a balanced argument.
His blog does add another Arsenal voice to the world which can only be good. All publicity is good publicity unless your Bloghead and trying to create your own publicity bless him.
    Is Blog related to Jade??

  • 36. ey  |  February 13th, 2007 at 11:59 am

Percy, evidently Seaman has health problems (I guess joint pain) so he can’t do much. I think.

  • 37. Little Dutch  |  February 13th, 2007 at 12:04 pm

Amos, while you make some good points about Myles “the cunt” Palmer, I’m afraid I have to piss on your chips here. Lady Nina has said she’ll sell and Danny Fiszman said he would sell “for the right price.” I met Nigel Phillips, head of the supporters trust, a few months back (THAT’S how you name drop Palmer you twat), a takeover is not at all unlikely. One of the major shareholders cannot be tracked down, while most of our major shareholders are over 60- hence Nigel starting the Supporters Trust and encouraging people to buy shares and join it as one co operative supporters vehicle that could get a say in the running of the club. So if anyone’s got a spare few grand kicking about………………….

    Percy Groves

Wenger only had to buy a starting keeper once… and he bought Jens… nobody can argue that that didnt work out very well.

    Calm yourself.

Almunia has been rather good this year and is prepared to sit on our bench… Poom is just cover and from what I hear from the youth/reserves… is very very well liked by players and staff and is something of a big brother to our “kids”

  • 42. The King  |  February 13th, 2007 at 12:23 pm

Why not just give Jens another year or two. He has been one of our better perfomers this season. And his passion for the club can be clearly seen, the way he fight for justice for our young players should not be overlooked. He is like a fatherly figure to our back four, always commanding. And hell we will miss him when he is gone, the aura of Jens.
Unless Wenger insists of reducing the average age of our team. It seems like every season our average age got younger. Thus has been a trend that i notice. We do need some old heads in our squad. They bring more experience, and also provide the young players with assurance. And at times, i felt Henry was frustrated with teammates because of the miscommunication. The understanding of Pires and Henry was vital to our previous seasons, now Pires gone and i can tell that Henry misses him alot. I am getting abit worried with Wenger policy as he seems to offload players when they are off their prime. Well clearly Pires, Viera were no longer the same player they were b4 when they left, their presence does affected the team positively. It just left me wondering who will go next, Jens followed by Henry?

  • 43. cf  |  February 13th, 2007 at 12:28 pm

Just to add to RH`s articulate rant to SKY, remember how SKY Sports News have dealt with various penalty incidents over the years. Pires` “dive” against Portsmouth was replayed every 5 minutes for about 3 months, on the same day (I think), Kevin Philips playing for Southampton tripped over his own feet and claimed and was given a penalty. This was not highlighted at all. Neither was Rooney`s famous dive in the 50th unbeaten game or Ronaldo`s numerous dives. I saw Sports Saturday and Jeff Stelling was vehemently defending Ronaldo after his blatant dive last week against the Scum. All of the panel were saying it was a blatant dive and he still kept defending him.

  • 44. Amos  |  February 13th, 2007 at 12:29 pm

Little Dutch I think it can be taken as read that any shareholder of any corporation will sell their shares ‘at the right price’ whether they declare that or not. That’s quite different from saying that they are going to sell their shares. The shareholding in Arsenal hasn’t remained unchanged since its incorporation (Sir Philip Harris is a relatively new shareholder) and it is unlikely to remain unchanged in the future. The issue is whether anyone can buy enough shares to gain effective control. It would be naive to think that a succesful Arsenal wouldn’t attract bidders especially in the current atmosphere and an involvement by a supporters trust is a great idea but in reality it won’t be able to by any genuine influence. Even the Granada 9.9% shareholding which has been up for sale for some time at 20% below the purchase price allegedly for some £37m hasn’t found a ready buyer. If the board has a genuine wish (and enough of them are genuine fans to believe they might) to retain the independence of the club then it will look to retain the current diversity of shareholders it enjoys at present even if the names change.

  • 45. Good to be a GOONAH!!  |  February 13th, 2007 at 12:31 pm

Jens may want to go home.. we need to think about the future… Akinfeev is the same age as Cesc (roughly).

people talk about the understanding between Henry and Pires but overlook the things that didnt come off (that penalty)…

I would suggest that between Cesc, Rosicky, RVP, Baptista, Hleb, Denilson (and others) there is plenty of creativity at the club… I suspect this list of players (particularly FAB4) kept Henry at the club last summer

  • 46. Percy Groves  |  February 13th, 2007 at 12:33 pm

Good to…. Jens has been a good kepper not a great keeper. He was dropped last year and for a while the debate was who is best Jens or Manuel so he cant have been the first name on the team sheet which a keeper for a top 4 side should be.
Spunky was as was rudolph for Man U. Jens bought AW a couple of years time which for 1.5m aint bad but at least be true to yourself and admit that Jens hasn’t really convinced you totally. Would you boast in your local that Jens is worth 12-15 points a year I dont think so.

  • 47. Zorr0  |  February 13th, 2007 at 12:35 pm

Let’s just buy Carson shall we, because I’m sure all we need to do is ask the scoUSAs nicely and they’ll just agree to the deal!

Best wishes to him whether his future lies on football or elsewehre.

  • 49. The King  |  February 13th, 2007 at 12:39 pm

Jens was offered a one year contract by Arsenal, thus he is considering it. He wanted a 2 years contract for assurance. Other clubs has shown interest in Jens, Spain and Germanay and they are willing to offer him 2 years. I am sure Jens will stay at Arsenal if he is offered a 2 yrs contract, it also show the appreaciation and reward what he has done for us. I would love to see him retire here at Arsenal. And did’nt Arsenal pay Sol a full year of Salary without his service. Isn’t tht more wasteful?

  • 50. gazzap  |  February 13th, 2007 at 12:42 pm

I have read a few disparaging comments about Henry in the past week or so and I dont agree with them in the slightest. I admit that Henry as a player has changed. people think its for the worst but he merely developed and evolved to become a highly efficient player.
Perhaps its due to his age and him wanting to slow down a bit to preserve some energy or perhaps its just pure experience and he has learned over his career how to be the most effective and useful to the team without wasting his energy doing donkey work.

he is still the most effective striker in the league. He is scoring goals most games, and even on sunday do you think fitz Hall would have turned the ball into his own net if Henry had not been a foot behind him?
Henry can be quiet for 89 minutes then score the crucial goal to win the game. other strikers can give you sheer effort, and tons of shots but not score the winner. football is all about goals and points and Henry still brings that to Arsenal far more than any other player. so its time to cut hm some slack for his relaxed style. we wont ever see the Henry of 5 years ago again, but he will win us just as many, or more games than ever.

we have become spoiled over the years, but dont under-estimate what Henry is still doing for us.

  • 51. Percy Groves  |  February 13th, 2007 at 12:55 pm

Watch TH14 go next season 30 league goals.
A full summer holiday, full pre season, the kids 1 year more mature it will make all the difference.
He is still worth a cheeky pound or two to be top goal scorer in the prem this season

  • 52. The King  |  February 13th, 2007 at 12:59 pm

I don think Henry will go 30 league goals next season. No disrespect to him, just feel that his style of play has change, as mentioned above, and he feels he no longer need to score goals to prove himself. He also said that he would prefer to assist rather than score goals.

  • 53. The King  |  February 13th, 2007 at 1:05 pm

He did it against Watford at the Emirates when he was one on one with the keeper and he chose to pass to Ade whom scored. The game we won 3-0

  • 54. Little Dutch  |  February 13th, 2007 at 1:13 pm

Amos, that’s kind of my point, it’s naive to think that our shareholders would not sell if they got a good offer. They’re all businessmen at the end of the day, if the offer’s good, the likes of Fiszman, Dein etc would sell to satan himself. Fiszman doesn’t even live in this country, so his day to day involvement with the club is limited. By all accounts, Dein is an absolute shark (most shrewd businessmen are) and if there’s a lot to be had, he’ll take it. The arrival of Lord Harris and that Lord of Peckham dude, the one who made a fortune out of furniture, further throws it into doubt because nobody knows what their intentions are.

  • 55. The King  |  February 13th, 2007 at 1:14 pm

If Henry think he is bigger than the club he would have been selfish enough to score himself than to assist other people. And of course it depends on the situation itself, and surely Henry is intelligent enought to judge the situation.

  • 56. Respects Highbury  |  February 13th, 2007 at 1:24 pm

    Nah fuck Liverpool.
I will not bother readin the F365 Mailbox after THIS bit beneath from a scouse fan:

    Those Classless Goons…
Does anyone else feel that people are missing a rather important aspect of Arsenal fans’ behaviour on Sunday - namely the taunting Wigan after the goal with their ‘who are ya’ chants. This is coming after ‘The Arsenal’ were played off the pitch by a team in the bottom five and only won due to dodgy refereeing.

TH’s actions simply mirror the environment of arrogance, self-delusion and petty-mindedness that exists down Ashburton way. Yes, they play decent football at times but this never-ending attitude of being the saviours of football and being holier than thou is sickening.
Arsenal bored Villareal off the pitch in last year’s CL SF, bored the Mancs off the pitch in the ‘05 Cup Final and yet still mock others who deploy similar tactics. All their dull, passionless fans can sing are petty derisory songs mocking smaller clubs. Least you be reminded, there are two clubs that share your country with buckets more success than you and as for a European Cup…well the less said about that the better.”
    Stephen Walsh, LFC

    A RISPOSTE

    1) Glad to hear Scouse fans speak of classy fans. Also nice to hear them make historical references to their past glories. So if history is fair, can you please remind me someone why Liverpool were barred from European football for so long? What happened at Heysel?
    2) Would this be the same Liverpool and their “classy” fans, whom last season when Alan Smith of ManUre broke his leg at Anfield, proceeded to pelt and bombard the ambulance van with all sorts of projectiles?
    3) Is this the same Liverpool who have been thrashed home and away, in different combinations, by Arsenal’s frist, second and youth teams? 3-6, 1-3, 3-0…etc…..

Jens was the best keeper in the world last year.. Percy, you are letting yourself down here

  • 58. Tom  |  February 13th, 2007 at 1:27 pm

It’s a shame that he’s had to retire but good luck to him in whatever he decides to do next. It’s a shame that such a down to earth guy has had to retire, he’s an example that footballers aren’t always brainless thugs like Rooney.

  • 59. Good to be a GOONAH!!  |  February 13th, 2007 at 1:29 pm

we said RH… I find it funny that so many other clubs hate us… Chelsea resent our history… United our beautiful ground and young side… Liverpool, our football…

  • 60. The King  |  February 13th, 2007 at 1:33 pm

still got Spurs, Bolton, Boro and recently Wigan
We are good at making enemies

  • 61. Good to be a GOONAH!!  |  February 13th, 2007 at 1:36 pm

domt forget any club the Alan (I got two clubs relegated in ONE season) Pardew manages

btw… a mate of mine said that Song was the best player on the park in the United match on the weekend

  • 62. The King  |  February 13th, 2007 at 1:39 pm

I tot is was Pardew who said Song was the best player at OT

  • 63. Good to be a GOONAH!!  |  February 13th, 2007 at 1:40 pm

I deny that Pardew is my mate… I strongly deny that… actually, the guy who told me that supports United.. he said that Song was really tidy

  • 64. DeiseGooner  |  February 13th, 2007 at 1:46 pm

I watched the game live on TV. Song was indeed tidy. He did the simple things well (a la Gilberto) He sat back and shielded the defence well. He tracked rooney and scholes when they dropped into the ‘hole’ to pick up the ball. He didnt really tackle all that much he just covered the runs and made the players pass back rather than forward. He does look to lack pace tho, or maybe it was that he wasnt in the mood to bust a git to get back. Kinda trotted back hoping the covering players would intercept the danger and that way he would then be free for a pass. Still a way to go before he can be considered ahead of Diaby tho. But the loan spell might do the trick.

  • 65. gazzap  |  February 13th, 2007 at 1:48 pm

dont all other clubs hate us? its because they are jealous, so take it as a compliment. they want to respect us but they actually wish they were as classy as us, so all they can do is hate us. whats important is that our fans love us.
ask yourself this, would you as an Arsenal fan get wound up about the songs that Liverpool fans sung against Newcastle, or any game? I know I wouldn’t. I couldn’t give a shit. so why do so many other clubs pre-occupy themselves with what Arsenal are doing?

  • 66. Clock End Gooner  |  February 13th, 2007 at 1:48 pm

To be honest, i’m gald when everyone hates us… makes it such much more fun, throwing it back in the media n’ other fans faces, when we win something…!

Just shows how fucking ignorant some people can be…
I had a CSKA Fulham fan at work say to me “You’re just worried that you will win fuck all again, and under-achieve, like last year…”
    ERRR.. SORRY!!

Win nothing, again?! Wasn’t last year, the 1st time we haven’t won anything in 5 years?!
And last year, didn’t we get to the final of a little competition called the “Champions League”?
Wow, now if that’s underachieving (like this year, getting to the Carling Cup Final with kids), can we underachieve every year please?

    Ignorance is bliss, hey?

  • 67. ruralgoon  |  February 13th, 2007 at 1:58 pm

Yeah, but its exhausting having to single-handedly defend the greatest club in the world [for many reasons] agains the plague of dense-skulled Manure and liverpool fans that seem to have infested shropshire, especially at work. I’m tempted to bludgeon the facts in using a pickaxe, but I’d have to do a risk assessment and method statement first! :-)

  • 68. Respects Highbury  |  February 13th, 2007 at 2:12 pm

Guys you are all missing the pint. Surely it is a good thing to be universally loved by the Great British Public (GBP) and have the affections of the litte British bulldog that punches above its weight.
So we could have the “greatest fans in the world” tag that Newcastle United have (anyone remember the swathes of empty seats when they got tonked at home by Birmingham?)
Or we could have the general admiration of ManUre. You know, with a foul-mouthed swearbox up-front, a serial diver and a manager who bullies his way into the media’s affections.
Or we could be loved like pluck’ol West Ham.
We could all walk around wearing Hackett tops and Burberry Caps, stuff ourselves with chicken n mushroom pies, and then go and chant obscenities about foreigners and Asians.
Or we could be like Sheffield, City…and just be plain dirty and forget that it is not celebrity death match but, a football match instead.

As you put it Good to Be and Click End: I love it when these tossers hate. It means we are doing something right. Liverpool bore the world and his dog to tears, they are rapidly trying to be the new Chelski and they are almost succeeding. Foreign takeover, arrogant fans, a propensity to believe everything Sly Sports tell them, a love for Andy Gay, piss-poor football…..

All they need now is an offensive manager.

I am always suspicious whenever the media love us - that would mean we had English players aplenty in our team. And who the hell wants that? Have you SEEN England play recently?

    Lol.

P.S Remember that 90% of these fans that hate us do not possess a brain-cell between them. These were also bought out by Sly Sports some time ago.
Arsenal IS th thinking man’s club for sure.

  • 69. ruralgoon  |  February 13th, 2007 at 2:27 pm

Im starting to think that there are subliminal messages contained within all sly sports broadcasts that actually trigger the death of braincells… a sort of mass brainwashing, if you will.

  • 70. The King  |  February 13th, 2007 at 2:33 pm

The reason why SKY will continue to show our matches regulary is because that they can’t wait to see us lose and slate us during their post match. Nothing to do with the love they had for us. And even if we won it, they give little credits to us, but point out some mistake or negativity of us. And i love it when teams like Liverpool, Chelsea, Man U hated us, after all we got the best record against the top teams this season, but den we still occupy forth place which is still a mystery. While medicore clubs like Westham, Spurs, Boro, Bolton, and even Wigan. Well i guess they are in a different league from ours. Usually, when a team is so dominant in the league and near unbeatable usually on top of the league, they will generate alot of hatred. Every team, pundits, fans, will want that team to get beaten eventually. And the team that i am talking about is Arsenal. Lying forth place in the league. And we actualy get more concern and attention from these people than they had for Man U.
    Bottom line is.
Man U won’t sustain the success they had, for another season
Chelsea, with all the money at their disposal, will in turn self destruct
    Liverpool lost 3-0, 3-1, 6-3 to Arsenal
Arsenal highest potential to dominate The league and Euro in years to come

  • 71. Bob Carolgees  |  February 13th, 2007 at 2:35 pm

Hello. First time on this rather funny blog.
I had to change his name to “Spit the Dog” after one day he refused to swallow. Anyway I see you guys enjoy England suffering. Arsenal are a great team yes with a great manager. U are all too blinkered though with your hammering of England. I can instantly name a load of players that could make the Arsenal first XI: Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Carrick, Scholes, Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, Terry, Crouch (aerial game), Rio, Pennant, Bentley, Defoe and Robinson. See?
Your team lack British spirit and you have bugger all grit. Who stands up for you when the chips are down? Your pansy foreigners are too busy showing off. Thats why you lose at Sheffield and struggle in Manchester. England have 7-8 world class players but Wenger refuses to sign them be fair. The only teams I the world who can claim to be superior to British players are Brazil. No one else. We invented the game lest u forget.

  • 72. gilf  |  February 13th, 2007 at 2:38 pm

“Your team lack British spirit and you have bugger all grit.”

Would that be why we have the best record on the league for coming back?

  • 73. Little Dutch  |  February 13th, 2007 at 2:40 pm

Ruralgoon, post 76, that’s just television in general. It’s junk food for the brain, by all means indulge once in a while. But too much and the brain gets fat and lazy. Hence, 99% of the British public.

  • 74. Little Dutch  |  February 13th, 2007 at 2:48 pm

Oh and please let’s not respond to the wind up merchant on post 78. I can’t be arsed to have this argument over again, especially when it’s blatantly blog head taking the piss.

I understand your point (post 59) Little Dutch. Though Fizsman and Dein are genuinely hard nosed business men I also believe they are genuine and sincere Arsenal supporters.Whether they are Arsenal supporters first and hard nosed businessmen second or the other way around I am much less certain.

Being hard nosed businessmen I doubt that they would do anything that is likely to compromise Wenger’s position which is kinda the point that Palmer was making I suppose. It would be nice to think that they could come up with a construction that retains the spirit of a genuine ‘club’ as opposed to a commercial corporation but that it probably a little too idealistic. All power to the supporters trust. It might be a little like peeing up Niagra Falls but having any kind of voice is important.

  • 78. Amos  |  February 13th, 2007 at 3:16 pm

‘Do you honestly believe that you lot are hated more then anyone else.’

Au contraire! As recent news has revealed we have the largest paying membership in world football and a worldwide following estimated at some 25 million plus. Everbody loves us.

Why even Spurs supporters have tended to avidly follow this blog for the wit and wisdom of it gooner supporters.

  • 81. Lancealittle  |  February 13th, 2007 at 4:03 pm

We were the most disliked team from the 70’s 80’s and it was one of the reasons that I became such a great supporter. I loved having to justify my my support to all my mates who supported other teams. It as only with the sucess in 89 onwards that people started to like us and that got worrying.
Its much better feeling part of a club that noone likes it makes the victory that much sweeter.
Liked or hated its so much better than being ignored like Spurs

Ok some very intriguing news stemming from Can Barca. Johann Cruyff, Laporta’s closest aide has revealed that one of Ronaldinho or Samuel Eto’o will be leaving Barcelona this summer.
Eto’o recently was promised to play half and hour (allegedly) for Barca’s league match against Santander on Sunday. Rumour has it that when he was only asked to come on in the 83rd minute, he point-blank refused. This clearly riled Rijkaard.
Now today, Eto’o has come out and publicly verbally slated Ronaldinho for stating that Eto’o had been “selfish” and also slating Rijkaard for his “lies”. Wow.
I know the attitude sounds lamentable but I doubt some of the allegations that he “refused” to come out onto the pitch. Problem at Barca is that Eto’o is actually, imo anyway, the most important player there – but we know who hogs all the limelight and attention instead, mainly due to Nike’s love for him. I for one would snap him up like a shot. I think he could also eventually turn out to be one almighty replacement for Henry (Eto’o is only 25 or 26)
Only problems is we kow that whatever we offer, the Chavs will offer 75 times more roubles for.

Bob Carolgees: you twat. Yet more proof of why the overall IQ coefficient in Britain is dwindling rapidly by the day. His “arguments” are so stupid I will not need to cut them down –save to ask Senor Carolgees whence Bentley and Pennant came from initially. Oh and Upson. Mr Carolgees you clearly do not watch football as you’d know we skinned Blackburn 2-0 at their gaff a month or so ago, despite playing against twelve men, with ten boys.
And you destroy your own comical argument further by citing Phillip Neville, yes Phillipa Neville as proof of the archetypal player Arsenal need. Enough said. Anyway Little D is probs correct that it is Bloggie.

I will never be happy if ever Sly Sports decide that they love us. I enjoy them hating us as it makes every moment of success ever sweeter. Only problem is, there are certain rules which must surely be adhered to and Sly Sports have over-stepped the mark to the extent that I often ask myself if I am not watching an Immigration Party Political Broadcast by the BNP/Bushites/KKK/.

BLOG HEAD: The reason we have turned n our country is simple: our country has turned on us. This is the only country in the world that revels in having “great losers”. I’ll admit it, I take great pleasure at watching England ridicule themselves. Why?
Because as Little Dutch right pointed out, the British population is blighted with morons who have McDonalds carton where their hypothalamus (sorry medic speak…brain) should be.
Also Blog Head because our CUNT(ry) has a tendency to blame everything on foreigners. Everything. It is not right. Foreigners lest I remind you have had traumas of their own as a result of England’s malpractice. I am particularly referring to Africa here.
So I find it slightly disturbing and somewhat sickening, to see the former colonial empire return to its neo-colonial tripe…blaming any and every foreigner for what’s wrong with Britain.
Shit at football? Blame Wenger. Shit weather? Blame the foreign wind of Scandinavia.
Can’t get a job? Blame the foreigner who bothers to get off his arse, take any job, get an education and stop sipping 9 cans of Stella on his couch.
Even you Blog Head can surely see how perverse and ridiculous this anti-foreign tirade has become. It was mildly embarrassing at first but now it’s just dam perverse. So therefore Bloggie, my CUNTry can stop behaving like a semen stain and accept that foreigners have actually given plenty to our society to be grateful for.
Next time you have a problem and need to go to hospital, ask yourself where the British nurses are and then ask yourself how the NHS is able to keep ticking over (despite what the Daily Mail tell you it DOES tick over). And then ask yourself why the British press continue to tell you that these foreigners are to blame for all and sundry.

    That will be all.

    “Ooh Arsene Wenger’s Magic,
    He wears a magic Hat
And when he saw Sam Allardyce
    He said “he’s fucking FAT”

Oooh…. Good To Be, Little D, Clock End, Lancealittle, MrGun, Gunner8, Ruralgoon, EY…Someone anyone PLEASE could you contact BAA or Gatwick airport as a matter of priority?
It’s just that Bolton are playing tomorrow night you see and all Air Traffic Controllers need to be on standby for Nolan and Camp (and everyone’s) long balls.
    Thanks for caring.

    “Oooh Arsene Wenger’s magic
    He wears a magic hat
And when he saw Fat Allardyce
    He said “Bung-taking twat”
    Ooooh……

Ok ok things have been slow since 4 I apologize.
I hope we play our reserves and simply foul the bastards….

  • 90. Lancealittle  |  February 13th, 2007 at 5:04 pm

    What should be our priorities?
With the FA cup replay tomorrow then the next round on Saturday against Bolton, then if we win, Blackburn. There is then the trip to Holland next Tuesday.
Should we be trying to win the match against Bolton if it will harm our chances in the Champions league? We are already in the League cup final, so by the time that is over we will be 2 games behind the other teams in the league and they will have to be slotted in at some point. It all looks like a huge bottle neck and past history says that we normally fuck up royally with the pressure of too many games. This could mean not finishing in the top 4 therefore not qualifying for the Champions league next season.
Maybe if it was another season I would go with the argument that it’s better to not be in it. But not this season, firstly it will be at the new Wembley, this will make it historical and lots more of will be able to go. Secondly the FA Cup is really important, It’s still the biggest club competition for a country in the world and millions of fans will be watching it. Thirdly and I think most importantly I think is that it gives a great opportunity for the youngsters to prove them selves.
I would therefore like to see a mixture of 1st & 2nd team like we had for the second leg in the Carling Cup Semi’s. It’s strange that Wenger keeps leaving out the captain, would Terry or Gerrard be left out of one of these games? Especially with RVP injured, I might not start him but would definitely have him on the bench, if we don’t win this match then he will not have played for 10 days when we go to Holland, and it’s not as if he has been over played this season, is there something in his new contract?
I’d have our strongest defense, probably have Cesc on the bench, play Diaby, Roz, Baptista in the middle, 2 youngsters out wide and Ade up front.

  • 91. Lancealittle  |  February 13th, 2007 at 5:06 pm

PS home now to celibrate that stupid fucking thing called Valentines tonight so as to not get in the way tomorrow! Cum On you Gooners!?!

  • 92. Livinhope  |  February 13th, 2007 at 5:14 pm

Respects I think you were a bit too kind to that Bob Carolgees manc.

England show so much fight & spirit do they ?
    When was that then?
So plucky that they can’t win a penalty shoot out.

As a Gooner I would love England to do well but the unrealistic hype surrounding a team that is worse than Spurs ,and for as long as Spurs, is so embarrassing.

I’ll just stick to watching our filthy foreigners.

  • 93. The King  |  February 13th, 2007 at 5:30 pm

It would be great if we can land Eto, but as Respect mention, Chelsea gonna offered a billion more times of our offer.
I tot we are done with the England issue.
We are going to have pack schedule and my piorites wil be rank accordingly
    1)Champions league
    2) Top 4 of the league
    3) Fa Cup
    4) Carling Cup
Though is a bit tough to pick between those which wan we should put on top piorities.
However i cannot stress enough we should not forfiet the Fa Cup. I mean after doing the hard work in eliminating the holders Liverpool at anfield, AND getting beaten by Bolten will do us no good. I cannot insist how much i wan to us to beat Bolten. And beating them will erase those thoughts that they are our bogey team. We need to end this bad run against Bolton.
And Lance u r right, with the pack schedule ahead, if we do beat Bolten, den is the Blackburn, and we will be 2 match behind others in the league when we finished the Carling cup. And injuries are bound to occur in this tight schedule and we still got the CL. However my hopes are for us to win the treble, maybe asking alot but still possible. We should try to get as much points in the league as possible and widen the gap between forth and fifth so that we can rest players for our cup ties.

  • 94. gazzap  |  February 13th, 2007 at 5:36 pm

I would love to get Eto’o. wenger tried hard to get him before and now it seems Eto’o is making all the right noises to get a move to us. but we have a lot of strikers. but Eto’o is better than RVP. mind you chelsea said something similar about shevchenko and he is shit. dont forget that Bendtner is coming back to us next season!

We need to beat bolton regardless of priorities. those cunts need beating. we can think about saturday and whether we need to rest players when it comes.

  • 95. Josh  |  February 13th, 2007 at 6:37 pm

1st of all BLog head do u have anything better to do than go on Arsenal Blog sites is your team really that bad?

2ndly Sky, MOTD,Talksport all Arsenal because they feel we have ruined english football. No english players, playing football which is actually ATTRACTIVE.Funny story also i was on holiday once watching ESPN.Richard Keys comes on to talk and he is a complete muppet talking about Victoria and stuff pretty funny.Never listen to some like him.The only pundit on TV who is not biased and is professional is Alan Smith.I am not being biased i promise.Well not trying to be at least.

Eto to Arsenal would be Brilliant but would never ever happen unless Henry begged him 2.Also Arsenal could not afford him.Although revealing his love for Wenger may give a hint he would like to work with him we shall see.

And Keeper situation well.I have no clue its hard to say the keepers we are linked with i dont see much.Alothough Carson worries me at times,Akiffiev is quality but a bit short and Boruc is very good.We shall see.IMO it seems certain Jens will leave in the summer.

And Danny Karbassiyoon has a and facebook page he checks regualy write on his page im pretty sure he will rite back.

  • 96. davey b  |  February 13th, 2007 at 6:46 pm

  • 97. The King  |  February 13th, 2007 at 6:49 pm

We all know how honest Wenger is, he never take advantage of clubs that are relegated or have financial difficulties to swoop their players on cheap. And i guess we have enough dribblers in the team, so a no to Benyoun

The Eto’o story is interesting. I’m sure you have all been asked the question, “if you could sign one player….”, well I ALWAYS plump for Eto’o (I’m tempted to say Kaka, but I just think we have a lot of great players in his position). Eto’o is a rarity, someone who scores the tap ins, but also can run at players and contribute immensely to the all round game. Wenger has confessed to trying to sign him and I believe he is one of the few world class players I look at and think that he would really give us something we don’t have. The thought of Eto’o partnering Henry or RVP is scary. However, I think he’s well out of our price range. Shame. Anyone hear that colossal cunt Allardyce’s press conference? Once again, accusing Arsene of bemoaning the way Bolton play. Can anyone furnish me with some quotes to back this up? I’ve only ever heard Wenger say that people don’t give them credit for the way they play, he said he admires the fact that they always play to win and he stuck up for the slob amidst the bung allegations. The only time I recall AW criticising them was when they injured three of our players in twelve minutes back in 2003, surely an understandable grounds for complaint? Hopefully the Bolton stewards won’t take exception to me waving some ten pound notes at him like they did last time. Those of you watching it, have a look out for the Bolton mascot who stalks the touchline opposite the dugout screaming at the linesman and abusing opposition players. Not sure if it comes across on TV but it’s fucking annoying.

  • 101. The King  |  February 13th, 2007 at 7:20 pm

    Very true little dutch
Eto’o is probably the most lethal striker on earth at the momoent, and yes he is probably more clinical than Henry, the fact that he take those easy chance, got good aerial abiities and can carve out chances on his own. Eto could definitely improve our abilities to finish off chances that come our way.
And for the cunt Allardyce is pushing his luck all the way to Emirates. Wenger was prasing Nolan, Diouf, Speed and some other Bolton players that they can play football as well a fews day before our Fa cup tie with Bolton. I guess Wenger has wise up, but he did critiscise Bolton last season resulting in a heaveier rivalship.
Last season at Highbury i remember Wenger so incensed with Bolton for time wasting, and i think he did critisce Bolton tactics. The match ended 1-1. And i remember Wenger slating Allarydce style of play last season

  • 104. The King  |  February 13th, 2007 at 7:34 pm

Actually it was Harry Kewell that was interested in a move to Arsenal thus causing much speculation that Wenger was signing him. But Wenger did come out saying that he likes Kewell but he has enough midfielder at that time.
Reyes is too much of a moaner, won’t say he was exactly disrespectful to Arsenal. He was caught wanting a move to Real Madrid and he say he didnt realli get settle at london, but he never came out criticsing Wenger or any Arsenal players like Cashly Cole did

  • 105. davey b  |  February 13th, 2007 at 7:40 pm

i think arsene secretly wants him back badly ,given the opurtunity to keep him i think he would ,strange though for all him sayin he never settled at arsenal ,he s played better for us than real aparentlly were he says he is settled so ask your self will he ever deliver what hes capable of every week

oh yeah he moaned about being left out the cl final he wasnt much cop against real ,outshone by fabregas ,against juventus we needed a bit more steal in there i no usually pires and steal dont go together but its more expierience could you see reyes put in that challenge against patrick

  • 107. Amos  |  February 13th, 2007 at 8:03 pm

Allardyce claims that we are just as guilty of time wasting asWigan or Bolton.

Does anyone think there is much point in explaining to him that using up time by retaining possession and passing around the opposition is a little kinder on the eye than taking an eternity over goal kicks, throw ins , corners and free kicks while feigning injury to stop play, and then substituting a player who gets outpaced by a three legged tortoise on his way to the touchline.

  • 108. Gelbs  |  February 13th, 2007 at 8:03 pm

Same old predictable shit. Henry rested for tomorrow. Wenger idiot. Guess he is thinking how wonderful light-weight Henry won’t be able to cope up against fat Sam’s bullying cunts. I knew he’d rest him. Absolute pathetic. How can you rest Henry when you have someone like Fabregas in the squad who has played practically every game of the season and Wenger himself even quoted he needed a rest and doesn’t wanna burn him out because he is young?!

  • 109. lase  |  February 13th, 2007 at 8:10 pm

i watched some of la liga matches last season and eto did miss several one on ones and some chances you would have expected ‘the most lethal striker’ to put in. he is a great player yes but calling him the most lethal striker…well the king you said probably so i try to get what you mean.

  • 110. Gelbs  |  February 13th, 2007 at 8:15 pm

I don’t particularly like fat Sam as well. But the only person who looks a cunt out of Sam And Wenger is Wenger. Why? Purely because Wenger has no clue on how to beat Bolton whereas Bolton can not lose to us. You’d think after all this time Wenger would finally do something to beat those cunts fair and square. I hope it’s tomorrow, but if Wenger fails again, just goes to prove what a loser he is. Wraps Henry in cotton wool because he doesn’t wanna risk him against the oh so mighty Bolton. I guess people will say after RVP’s injury he is right to rest him. I say bullshit. He wouldn’t of played anyway. And the FA Cup is the only thing we have a chance of winning. The CC would be gr8 but minor cup, CL we won’t win, probably beat PSV and play someone like United or Chelsea or Barcelona in the next round(s) and lose. Lose tomorrow it be another season empty-handed. Guess this is part of the barron-spells of which there be a great future where we’ll win the title year after year after 2008/9 lol. As if…

  • 111. The King  |  February 13th, 2007 at 8:32 pm

I said that because i can’t think of any other striker at the moment that is more clinical than Eto’o at the moment. A strong claim though, but den his scoring rate is very impressive, and even when he play for a medicore side like Malloroca he still bang in the goals. Well Henry does seems to get more rest than any other players. A worrying sign. And Gelbs, funny u already try to draw conclusion for things that had not yet occur. Mind i called u a pundit

  • 117. Dave  |  February 13th, 2007 at 9:59 pm

Freddie and Hleb back in the squad, give us at least some options on the wings. Fab and Kolo should be rested at some stage but not tomorrow. We need them both to beat the scum. I think we can leave Henry at home without bad conscience. When was the last time he made a difference against Bolton? He would have played crap anyway. He needs a rest of one week before every game otherwise he is useless. But as you say it’s strange that our captain is never available when it comes to games like Bolton or ManU away. I’m and was a huge fan of the type Henry who was so stunning at Highbury. Everytime he got the ball we could expect him to do something special. He was the king on the turf, he dictated the game, he ruled the game. But since our stadium change he is not the same player anymore. His goal tally is still impressive but it can not mask his disappointing performances at the Emirates.50 millions from Barca? Think again about it. Is he still worth such a huge amount of money? Two years ago I would have said no way to sell him, not for 200 millions but now I would have to think about it twice.

Danny Karbassiyoon, 22, has been plagued by injury and now is staring at an unknown future.  Sad story really,  the kid played for Arsenal at one point , then got loaned out from here to there and then got hurt. I wish him the best and hopefully one day we will see Karbassiyoon  back in full gear, and maybe in the MLS. [...]

    Aaaaaaaaaaagh! AAAAAAAAAAGH!
SOMEBODY TELL STEVEN GERRARD TO SHUT THE FUCK UP! SERIOUSLY I AM FED UP!
This is why those Scouse muppets believe everything they hear and just hash out drivel. Please read this before I rip it to bits:

Gerrard told the Sunday Mirror: “They said they are going to turn Liverpool into the biggest club in the world.

“I think people have been a bit disrespectful to Liverpool over the last few years, but I can tell you that is going to change now that the takeover has been completed.

“The spotlight always seems to be on the so-called big two or three clubs. Because of the money they’ve got, it’s always about Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal,” he explained.

    RISPOSTE.

Dear Mr Gerrard. You are an insipid twat.
    Let me tell you why.
You claim that “everyone will respect you” with your new owners. What makes you think that? Does everyone respect the Chavs for buying their success? No.
So therefore why on earth would Liverpool, a club of tradition and historical esteem, be more respected for whoring themselves to a US shark? Tit.

Then you claim that Arsenal are one of the many clubs that “have the money”
Nice to see that Rafa has brainwashed you over Arsenal’s imaginary “money”. Stevie you nob, let me enlighten you over the small matter of money.

    LIVERPOOL’S STARTING ELEVEN:

    Xabi Alonso: £10 mil
    Crouch: £8 mil
    Kuyt: £7 mil
    Pennant: £8 mil
    Sissoko: £5 mil
    Gerrard: £0
    Agger: £6.5 mil
    Carragher: £0
    Riise: £3 mil
    Finnan: £3.5 mil
    Reina: £6 mil

    TOTAL: £57 Million

    ARSENAL STARTING ELEVEN:

    Lehmann: £1.5 mil
    Clichy: £500k
    Kolo Toure: £250k
    Gallas: £10 mil (estimate)
    Eboue: £250k
    Rosicky: £7.5 mil
    Fabregas: £0
    Gilberto Silva: £4.5mil
    Hleb: £7 mil
    Henry: £10 mil
    Van Persie: £2 mil

    TOTAL: £43.5 Million.

Yes my friends, this is a full £13.5 million less than the entire cost of the Liverpool first eleven.
So can somebody, ANYBODY, please explain to me why Liverpool lost 3-6 at home, 1-3 at home again and got thrashed 3-0 at the Emirates with a team which cost in excess of £10 million more than Arsenal’s.

Mr Gerrard’s shoddy grasp of basic and simple arithmetic is cause for concern over the state of Math teaching in the city of Liverpool. How many members were there in the Beatles Stevie? 2+2 Stevie? Still don’t know?…..Muppet…

And if, as Mr Gerrard comically reckons, Arsenal get “respect’ from the media then he has clearly not seen any recent footage of Sly Sports and Andy Gay. Only a moron or a ManUre, Bolton, Wigan, Sp*rs or Chavski fan could think that Arsenal are granted favourable media coverage.
And I know Stevie Me watches Sly Sports because there can be no other explanation for the boy’s sheer blind stupidity.

    Imbecile.

As Arsene Wenger said: when he is given £10 he has always been taught to spend £10 exactly, and not £11.
He rebuilt a whole club in large part due to his crafty knowledge of finance (sthg which clearly fails you Stevie) and his ingenious sale of Nicolas Anelka for £23mil to Real, and Overmars to Barca for £25 mil. Making the club a tidy net ingression of £48 mil for players that cost a combined fee of £8.
Yes that’s right, Arsene made more money through his brilliance than your entire team of serial boredom cost.

You will not get anywhere spunking £8 mil on Arsenal rejects who are in and out of prison such as Pennant, when for the same money you could have gotten Hleb or Rosicky. Are you?
Wenger has also done something I have never seen Houllier or Benitez do. Whilst you were bringing through the Cheyrous and LeTallecs of this world, Arsene gave us Anelka, Fabregas, Clichy, Cole, Toure, Eboue, Vieira….

He made that club on his own. Arsenal did not go from players like Morrow, McGoldrick, Malz, Mendez, Paytes and Cesar….to Henry, Overmars, Petit, Vieira, Bergkamp and Pires overnight.
It took hard work, brilliance and the vision and tenacity of one man, and the faith of many thousand.

The sooner you learn that, the sooner you’ll stop shipping in 6 goals at home to our juniors.

    Ta.

  • 127. *_Respect Highbury  |  February 13th, 2007 at 11:51 pm

Little Dutch sing loud and hard for me at the game tomorrow!
I am looking after my junior Gunners so I cannot go…but throw a pie at Allardyce for me and make sure it has poison in it - and for Christ’s sake someone, anyone, call Air Traffic Control so I can get a decent camera view of Bolton’s “passes”.

P.S Little D. dunno if you teach English Lit or Lang. but have you read that Conrad book “Heart of Darkness”? And if so is it any good? I’ve heard mixed reviews is all….never read it and thought about doing it…

Eto’o would be magic if he signed for us. Seems plenty of people are outraged at Thierry’s performances of late though I for one cannot comprehend for the life of me, why. But of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion….
I just remember this time last season hearing the same thing before Thierry propelled us to the Champs league final. Hopefully the same will happen again!
I think Ruralgoon makes a good point when she mentions the fact that he evidently misses the link-up play on the left Ca$hley and Reyes offered him.
A left winger would certainly not go amiss come summer.

Anyhow enough talk. I am not expecting anything from tomorrow but hey….it’s a judo party, not a football match whenever it’s Bolton!

    Night.

Please excuse the duplicate comments! Stupid PC.
    Anyway, a few bits.
Bayern Munich, a much bigger club than ManUre you’ll all agree:

“Bayern Munich are turning to Arsenal to help them get their title hopes back on track.
New Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld revealed: “We have to have big ambitions.

“The Premier League must be our example. A quicker tempo, more movement on the pitch, and more application - that’s what we want.”

Hitzfeld’s assistant Michael Henke spent time in London observing Arsenal, and insisted: “We can certainly follow Arsenal’s example regarding quick passing and interplay.”

    2) Even Chavski’s managers very own managers get so bored by the tiring dross they are forced to watch at the Bridge over troubled water, that they take refuge on watching fantastic football at the Arsenal!

“New Parma coach Claudio Ranieri has revealed how he used to follow Arsenal at Highbury while still in charge of Chelsea.
Reacting to Italian football’s crowd problems, Ranieri admitted: “When I was coach of Chelsea, I would go to watch Arsenal at Highbury, sitting with the Gunners fans and without ever having any problems.”

    LOL.

    3) Samuel Eto’o: please join Arsenal!

Ronaldinho also got it in the neck from a furious Eto’o who added: “It really pi**ed me off that a team-mate should poke his nose in and claim I need to think more about the team.

“Especially when it’s him who needs to think more about the group!

“We have the guy considered the best player in the world but Samuel Eto’o is also the best in the world.”

Eto’o, who has already gained public support from president Joan Laporta for his refusal to play at the weekend, added: “There is a war between two groups at Barcelona - those who are with’ the president and those who are with someone else.

“And what makes me really angry is that I know there are people at Barcelona who feel pain when I score my goals.”

JOIN THE FORCES OF GOOD! Turn down the blood roubles….

Ronaldinho, imo, is not as important to Barca as Eto’o. They have Deco, Xavi, Iniesta - enough creative players (and in Deco, divers) for two teams.

Roanldinho has never been a model pro -benched at PSG for drinking and partying before matches. he did the same during the WC, and does that all the time foe Barca. Pity all those Nike ads make him look like a saint.

  • 149. Percy Groves  |  February 14th, 2007 at 12:21 pm

Chavski dirty name is a swear word around Barca. I think Eto may really despise Jose so out of principle might not play for them although one frightening aspect of his statement was his reference to money. “I think of the team then money” not really what you want to hear but maybe I am still an old fashioned football supporter. I would like to hear more comments like those of Justin Hoyte yesterday.

ronaldinho scored both goals in their 2-0 win at the weekend so he’s not doing too badly at the minute. clearly the pair dont get on but thats when happens when they both think they are superstars. Arsenal currently have a superstar in Henry. do you think the same clash would occur if Eto’o joined?

Actually Eto’o got an ego problem, he know Barca without him will struggle and him making all the noise now to attract some attention. He seems abit unhappy with all the lime light shown to his teamate Ronaldinho. And i say they are both equally important to Barca.
Eto’o actually wanted a move away from Spain, as u know those monkey and racist chant will always linger in his mind. And he once almost walked out of the game. Maybe is true that he is considering a move elsewhere. And the only location that will attract him is England. And if Chelsea can offer Shevenchenko 30million pounds, i guess Eto’o will cost about at least 35 million pounds.

Henry on the Wing is suicidal. is drowning Henry talent.

  • 166. Respects Highbury  |  February 14th, 2007 at 2:12 pm

Welling Gooner: yes we need Eto’o! Let me tell you why.
He is everything Arsene Wenger asks for in a player: fast, strong, ridiculously quick off the mark, technique in abundance and most of all, far more clinical than ANY striker we have at the Arse at the moment.
He is also so good he can play out on the left wing and STILL manages to give you natural width.
Ronaldinho as GazzaP said is doing well at the moment but imo, he is no way near as important to Barca as Eto’o. Look at the Champiions league final and you can see that Ronaldinho can be snuffed out - but Eto’o is much harder to snuff out as he is far more direct and just runs like a lunatic at defenders. And we all know they hate that.

Oh is anyone esle seeing the irony in ManUre, the biggest, bestest club in the world, yet AGAIN having one of their best players cherry-picked by Real Madrid? Lol.
    First it was Beckscum….now Ronaldo.
Funny how the “biggest club in the world” tm is effectively a sporting academy for Real Madrid and Barcelona. Lol.

Only time we ever lost a player to Madrid was a player it turns out, we did not really need. Like my friend said at the time: it was a bit like having someone paying you £23 million for a virus.
Anelka is a twat (you know he’ll score now I’ve said that right?)

P.S Myles Palmer is a toss-pot now I utterly convinced.
Could anyone BE more anti-Arsenal? Kissing Defoe’s arse, sucking off fake Ronaldo, berating Wenger, demonising Henry…..

What an utter tit. Why does he write about Arsenal?
Blog Head…I BET it’s Blog Head pretending to be some columnist called Myles Palmer.

    I’ve sussed it now.

Oh and Allardyce is a fat cunt. Hope you’ll poison that steak n’ kidney pie for him Little Dutch…lol

That t**t Anelka is now an absolute certainty to score, methinks!
Think we should all gather as mch loose change as we can find and head to the bookies to bag him as first goal scorer… with a side flutter on that freak campo. In fact, if we all put as much on bolton to win as we can, the bastards are bound to lose. Win-win situation; if we win, we’ll be lighter in the wallet but will have beaten the walrus, if we lose we will at least have sufficient funds to get completely bladdered in a vague attempt to drown our sorrows and to buy a big gun to shoot the buggers next time they’re in town…

Don’t joke Rural! I have a Gooner mate who is always betting against Arsenal so he ‘wins’ both ways, and it’s normally the price it has cost him to see the game, Of course now he has got a bit superstitious about it, the champions league final meant he had a big bet, what with the travel and over night in Paris, and he still felt shit the next day.

The way we have been playing its gotta to be Bolton @H/Time Arsenal@F/Time. It will be a big price 25’s or upwards.

I had the chance to meet him. He is an amazing guy. Really nice and funny and always seems to be wearing a smile. He really wishes he could play again, you can tell when he watches other people play. And wow! He has amazing talent! I was sitting with him at an indoor soccer game and they threw him a ball and he juggled it on his left foot while sitting down in bleachers!! That is amazing. It is really sad that he couldn’t play for longer.
