Six Wins Required (with or without Thierry)

0 guns December 13th, 2006

Fitting neatly around two cup ties at Anfield, our next six Premiership games are:

  • Wigan (Away)
  • Portsmouth (Home)
  • Blackburn (Home)
  • Watford (Away)
  • Sheff Utd (Away)
  • Charlton (Home)

These are games we could and arguably should win. 6 x 3 = 18. 18 points would do our position in the table no harm whatsoever. I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t be confident as we approach the Christmas period, with or without Thierry Henry.

It’s vital that we start this run well tonight at Wigan. Kolo Toure returns from suspension, but William Gallas and Tomas Rosicky are still out. Julio Baptista could come in for Mathieu Flamini, and it’ll be interesting to see whether Arsene goes for Djourou or Senderos alongside Toure: on form it should be the former, but Arsene is famously loyal to Swiss Tony.

Personally, I’d be glad to see us return to a 4-4-2: Wigan are an attacking side who will go forward, leaving gaps at the back for us to exploit (we hope).

Apparently, Arsene is terrified of a foreign invasion: no, not of Fiorentina coming to nab Arturo Lupoli, but of investment in an increasing number of Premiership clubs. I can understand his concern: were it not for Roman Abrahmovich’s billions, we might have a couple more Premiership trophies in the cabinet.

So, the six-game-win-sequence begins tonight. Should be fun.

so just to confirm, passports don’t matter on the pitch, but do off it. Is that what Wenger thinks yeah?

  • 2. lase  |  December 13th, 2006 at 3:20 am

growler, given that you never understood what arsene said i believe it will be a waste going into that again.

the best hope for you yet is to try reading it again and if you still cannot get it then you are beyond help.

Funny how it is Arsenal that has to defend English football now! Long live the Bank of England!!
Growler, from the sounds of it, you better start learning icelandish (or arabic or russian)!!!

The owners and fans define a club and it’s moral code. Arsenal, with it’s English owners and English fans, will always have English values.

Unlike Chelsea, unlike Man Utd and unlike Liverpool (soon,) Arsenal is an English club and as such, there exists an ethereal glow around Ourl Club.

    I’ve moved myself to tears.

  • 5. Growler  |  December 13th, 2006 at 4:02 am

Glad to hear the comments. A little strong what I said, I know.

But smacks of two facedness (is that a word?) to encourage globalisation on the pitch and complain about it off the pitch.

As for english fans, thats changing too. Look at the stands, who is in them? What about the name of your stafium?

As for the values, they are driven by the players and manager too. not just the fans and owners.

btw, I am a liverpool fan, and yes I can concerned about the takeover particularly chelski style shopping. If they provide stability, and allow us to grow organically on the pitch as we have been I will be relieved.

I would prefer them to Peter Ridsdale or Morgan though.

I just can’t see the difference between ‘no distinction between players on passport’ to ‘Foriegn owners are bad owners’.

Growler, take the blinkers off…. it’s clear you see no distinction yet having foreign players in a team that bring quality and style to the English game is completely different to having foreign filthy rich owners who are using your club to launder money and in the process turn the transfer market into a betting arena…. i am not saying it wouldn’t be nice to have some cash to splash but if it comes with loss of club identity then they can shove it !!

  • 7. mark  |  December 13th, 2006 at 7:00 am

    yup, Growler
do u wan ppl to tell u at your face tht liverpool bought the title. If liverpool did win the title eventually under foreign investment, do u feel proud tht there is another league title under your rich history belt. i don think so.. unless u r no true fans of liverpool.
i rather arsenal don win the league than resort to cheating to win the league.
    the point is
    whats the point?

The reason foreign businessmen are looking to invest in the Prem is largely because they see it as a business opportunity (inc. Abramovich - I am sure there is a reason behind his plowing so much cash in, we have all heard the launering rumours). The point is, it isn’t a business to us, and nor, I suspect to Hill-wood, whose great grandfather was chairman before him. At what cost business success? Does it mean selling the clubs soul for a fast buck? Marketing activities in USA, China and the middle East tiring out the players before a major campaign? What if it becomes more economically viable, as a business, to ground share with your rivals, or move cities where there may be more support as has been seen in the States? Wenger’s concern is grounded in economical reality, and I, for one, share his concerns. Up the Gunners. Its not just a business, its a huge part of our lives for many of us, and I dont wanna see it fucked with by some wanker businessman or dodgy oligarch. Cheers

It is generally accepted that national identity is not defined by your employees but by ownership. BMW is a german car maker though I am sure it employs many english people. By the same token Toyota is still Japanese and Peugeot French.

Arsenal are one of the increasingly small band of top flight English teams. Is it important? Ownership probably shouldn’t be but if clubs become playthings for the world’s rich to raise their personal profiles it could, and arguably already has, distorted the fairness of competition. You could point out that it has been done before (Jack Walker at Blackburn for example) but certainly not on this current scale.

It does matter if the integrity of competition is to be maintained but then FIFA aren’t likely to do anything about it.

I think the English government should get their finger out and do something about these foreign investors, being able to just walk into this country and buy who ever the fuck they want, without any questions asked.

Even though you have the pathetic rambles on La Porta at Barcelona, at least the people in Spain have the power to vote in, who they want running their beloved clubs… what do we have?!
As much as I laughed at the time, when Glazer bought the mancs (USA, USA…), look how hard they tried to keep them lot out and to no avail.

You think the Italian league is corrupt? What’s our league going to be like, in 20 years time, when these sheiks own every fucking club in the league, and they start betting for fun “I bet £10m that we win! I bet £10m, he scores first! I bet £10m, he scores an own goal! I bet £10m, the floodlights go off at this match, at this time…”
    Where will it end?

Some people may say, it sounds like sour grapes, but trust me, i’d rather feel the comfort of winning a few trophies here n’ there knowing we WON them, rather than knowing, deep down, you’ve BOUGHT title after title, every year…!

Foreign money does not mean dirty money in ALL cases.

I think the real problem with foreign money is that they wil run the club as a business, Chelsea aside, and try and make profit ahead of the interests of the game, the fans and the team.

Football clubs are funny things, their revenue come from gate receipts, from fans, and TV money, due to fans watching football.

And some clubs offset all of that revenue paying a few well paid footballers.

Soon the pre seasons tours will be seen as a key revenue period not a time to get the team in shape and prepared for the season and the players/ team will be prize puppies for rich owners who want a bit of glamour, and money.

  • 12. Will 2000  |  December 13th, 2006 at 9:13 am

Wenger isn’t saying clubs shouldn’t be owned by foreigners, he’s saying they shouldn’t be owned by anyone who will distort the natural competition by piling in tons of cash and forcing transfers and wages through the roof. We’ve seen that happen with one sugar daddy already, imagine the effect with 3/4/5!

    Classic Wenger…
“The Frenchman responded dismissively to Jose Mourinho’s suggestion that Arsenal had not played to win in Sunday’s draw at Stamford Bridge. “They usually put the result first,” he said of Chelsea. “That is why this comment is, for me, of no real interest or of any substance because it is not linked with their ambition to play at all.”

You have to love the guy (Gelbs not included)!!

  • 13. Clock End Gooner  |  December 13th, 2006 at 9:29 am

Ha ha! you know it Will! He Oozes with class the bloke!

Whenever Moaninho opens his mouth now, I just laugh! He used to really get to me, but his pathetic rambles, seem to be getting more n’ more desperate with each passing day!

“They never played, to win the game…”: Yeah, hence why were 1-0, with 5 mins to go!
“They’re in cahoots with Man Yoo to stop Chav$ki winning the league…:” Yeah, hence why we beat them at Old Trafford! Makes a lot of sense that!

Whatever Chav$ki do this season, he’s off in the summer & I can’t fucking wait to see the back of the lying hypocritical cunt!

The resident liverpool fan is actually quite pleased at the prospect of sheik hamdan al mactoum buying out LFC; RLF is also a keen follower of horse racing so knows how big an input the sheik has made to the sport- he’s not just a big owner of racehorses, but has an enormous input into the breeding side, actually goes to see his horses daily and has a great deal of respect for all other trainers, owners and breeders. Not only that, but he or his businesses sponsor many big races. He started the dubai cup and world series, two of the biggest events in the flat racing calendar. So for him it works both ways; he gets a lot out of the sport but he also puts back in a hell of a lot. If he follows this approach with his football club, then the whole sport may actually benefit.

    Sorry guys!

Wenger lacks class. He needs grow up very fast as he is getting older by the day. Wenger is a loser and a sore poor loser. He needs to learn a lot from SAF, the best manager in the world. Arsene just keeps crying like a baby.

Arsene Wenger has NO class or grace. He doesnt spend and hates all those who spends. See how briliiantly SAF has done. He doesnt cry about chelsea’s money. He will let his football do the talking unlike Wenger who keeps crying like a 1-year old all the time.

And all his so called ‘tongue-in-cheek’ remarks are so damn boring for literates like us. He is just so boring in his communication and we all know he is a rank liar.

    Time for him to retire.

its got nothing to do with the fact these investors are foreign. its to do with the obsene amounts of money that are being used to buy whatever the clubs want even if thats way way beyond the clubs natural resources. If there is a £100m loss per season then that is not an issue for these people. Liverpool could be close to joining that group. they may say well we still want to do things right and invest wisely but you can bet your bottom dollar that if they just need an extra few million here and an extra few million there the dubai will pay for it, so that makes them as bad as chelsea.

To be fair to man u, they still have to operate on sound economics. they need to make money and satisfy Glazers loans. they are not that different to us other than their owner is American.

when clubs no longer have to worry about what money they make before they know what they can spend then the game is in trouble regardless of whether the owner is foreign or English.

The solution is of course blindinly obvious. to cap every clubs expenditure to be no more than its REAL income ie not including gifts. FIFA could bring this rule in tomorrow if they wanted, but you get the impression that too many G14 members would protest against it. so in effect the rich owners and money men also hold all the power in football/FIFA.

Anyone read Lamp-Lard’s reply to Jens:

“For me, it’s all in the heat of battle and nonsense to start talking to the media about it afterwards.

“But the other week myself and my cousin Jamie Redknapp were out to dinner in a London restaurant and Lehmann was sitting just feet from us on another table.

“We acknowledged him and he completely blanked both of us. “In fact, when he left, he walked right past our table and didn’t even have the decency to say anything - whether nice or rude.”

HA HA HA… IF OL’ LAMP-LARD WANTED TO MAKE HIMSELF LOOK LIKE AN EVEN BIGGER CUNT, THAN HE ALREADY IS, HE’S SUCCEEDED, GRACEFULLY!

HAS THE THOUGHT EVER ACCRUED TO YOU, LAMP, THAT PEOPLE MAY NOT FUCKING LIKE YOU?!! FULL STOP.

cesc, I like that team, at the very least it has Baptista starting. maybe freddie will play on the wing and I doubt we’ll see walcott before 70 minutes but I ‘d like to see him get at least 20 mins. Ade might be tired so it could be beast behind RVP. I bet the players are still tired from sunday after all that hard work, so it might affect them tonight. this could be a tough game but I feel we should edge it.

  • 24. gazzap  |  December 13th, 2006 at 9:59 am

the worst fat frank could come up with was the Jens totally ignored him!! F*** me, what a crime. to ignore someone you dont know.

If I was an Arsenal player I’d damn well make a point of ingoring fat wankers too. well done Jens.

  • 25. Amos  |  December 13th, 2006 at 10:00 am

Quite right Gazzap. Football needs to find a way to control this. Rummenige from Bayern recently expressed his fears that the present trend will make it very difficult for German Clubs to compete succesfully in the CL for the forseeable future. Am I right in thinking that Chelsea aren’t one of the G14 clubs? If so the present make up of that group might, for the time being, support any sensible moves to bring some balance into the present set up.

Mourinho’s expressed wish to field a 2nd XI in the championship is yet another extension of that financial power that if allowed will ultimately turn football from a sporting competition into an exhibition spectactle.

  • 26. Growler  |  December 13th, 2006 at 10:06 am

Its a tough one with foriegn ownership and I hope that it provides us stability.

The 80million debt is bullshit by the way.

also we spent 28mil in the summer. if we spend 30 next summer that doesn’t mean anything.

finally, whenever you travel overseas you see arsenal tops and merchandise too, so Arsenal are a global brand too. If we are talking about commercialisation and profit generation, then arsenal are as guilty as the rest of the foreign owned clubs are they not?

  • 27. Growler  |  December 13th, 2006 at 10:08 am

by the way, where is a good forum to have intelligent discussions with arsenal fans. all i have met have always been good football fans (unlike chelsea, spurs, everton man u and russian fans)

  • 28. ruralgoon  |  December 13th, 2006 at 10:14 am

If theres going to be a clampdown on clubs expenditure, then there will need to be a total restructuring of both transfer fees and wages for all top level clubs in the world. It couild be just what the footballing world needs- an end to ridiculous fees for mediocre or past-it players, so the true values for players are what is paid. It would of course mean that players would have to actually sign for a club they wanted to play for rather than for what the club is gonna pay them!

  • 29. Gaga  |  December 13th, 2006 at 10:22 am

Me still thinks we can compete with the stupid money, especially with Arsene Who? In charge. Man U has been buying players for oddles of money for ages (I’m told Roy Keane from Nottingham to Man U was a either a club or country record at the time), but we still came up and competed with them, and very adequatelt and very attractively I must say. All the ‘big name” stars can go to all the money being thrown about by Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool, Villa, whoever, and we will continue to do what we’ve always done and continue to win.
Arsene Who? has no reason to panic about the money being thrown around. For every SWP we don’t get, we will get 5 Fabregas’s. For every Rio we cannot afford, we’ll have 60 Kolo Toure’s and a few Djourous.
We’ve never been a big buying club. So other clubs becoming big buyers should really not affect us.

  • 30. Gaga  |  December 13th, 2006 at 10:26 am

Growler, Arsene Who? is arguing that if an English bloke had bought West Ham, maybe he’d have been a bit more patient with Pardew. Don’t you think he has a point, in as much as I dislike Pardew?

  • 31. arseblogger  |  December 13th, 2006 at 10:31 am

Are you all Chavski pricks on this site??

You’re all a bunch of twats

  • 32. gazzap  |  December 13th, 2006 at 11:21 am

Gaga, there will be life after Arsene Wenger. what happens when your average manager wants to spend big to buy a top player but is greeted with a firm no from the board? we know that our budget is something like £10m per year. no probs if you are Arsene, big probs if you are anyone else. thats why a long term sustainable answer to the problem needs to be sought now.

Growler, being an internation brand and selling merchandise abroad is fine. its all part of the club earning its own money, which is part of the clubs’ natural resources and not a gift from a wealthy businessman. If man u etc do this better than Arsenal then we can have no comlaints about this other than to pull our finger out and try and match them.

  • 33. :..)_'_Respect Highbury  |  December 13th, 2006 at 11:44 am

I hate to get alll economic theory on your asses here.
    But….
The major problem with this extrapolent influx of foreign cash revolves around 2 central issues: the first is, and that not one person has yet to mention the fact that global financial systems are inherently VOLATILE. What does this mean?
Quite simply put, this means that a consistently high pumping/doping of capital funds into one sector, (a “binge inestment”) can only result in a negative outcome.
Anyone that knows economics would know that this is what happened in countries like Argentina and Thailand when they were provided mammoth funds by the IMF.
If it can happen to countries, there is no reason to suggest that little football can remain untouchable.

    2) Wenger said it and even a fool can see it.
The reasoning behind ivestors’ motives gives grave cause for concern. Jack Walker was a Blackburn fan, aware of their history and who followed a dream.
ROman Abramovich on the other hand, is a man who clearly has no genuine interest in football, or esle he would not be distorting the sport or the market in the manner in which he is.
Lest we forget, Abramovich is the main business partner of a certain Mr Boris Berezovsky.
Berezovsky is the self-proclaimed “Godfather” , and a man with close-knit links to the Chechen mafia. Add to this that he is a business partner of the Bush family software corpration, and that he is alleged to have been behind scores of assassinations before he and Abramovich; took over the Sibneft business.
They are also alleged to have “eliminated” all opposition in their takevoer of the aluminium business. However, do not expect your average Chav “fan” to know, or care, about such key facts. They can hardly sing at matches or read a book.

Now we have the dodgy MBNA credit card baron at Villa, an even dodgier fuck whose family are on extradition charges for illegally dealing arms to a war-torn African country in exchange for oil at Portsmouth (yet their idiotic fans prefer to moan about Pires instead), and a man who had his own sister evicted and written out of his father’s will at ManUre.

The new sheikh at Liverpool has a portfolio of investments such as e.g. DaimlerChrysler and hotels.
These are BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES. And that is why Liverpool and indeed ALL, football fans should be deeply concerned. Abramovich ridiculously opened uo a Pandora’s box to all this nonsense, and it shows no signs of stopping.

It will become a rich man’s playground - and much like the example of the IMF in Argentina I used, what happens when these investors pull out?
Shit hits the fan. It has been proved in economics in the long-term, to be an unsustainable financial model.

As someone rightly pointed out: I would rather go ages winning jack shit, than doping ourselves up and pimping our club to the dodgiest mafioso shyster.

    Good day.

tonight my money is on Senderos playing but I dont know any Gooners that wouldn’t rather have Djourou in the team. I think wenger will want to improve big phil’s confidence, and that is understandable. …I think Big Phil will come good he just needs to take time he will be more of a positional CB which is a skill that takes years to develop…. …Djourou is a thoroughbred he was born ready, he has the pace and athletic ability to make up for slight mistakes.
Djourou, Gallas and Toure are all similar in that they posses awesome recovery speed. Senderos is more like TA and Terry

Tonight, Arsenal will NOT beat Wigan and see how Wenger moans about every fucking thing under the sun.

    Time for him to retire.

  • 67. tubes  |  December 13th, 2006 at 8:49 pm

that was fucking shite, ade was invisable, the beast was terrible and eboue was shocking. just a thought if eboue was playing under that cunt at chelsea he would take him off at half time and replace him with hoyte and then not let eboue back in to the team for a few games to show him that that standard is not acceptable

  • 72. Amos  |  December 13th, 2006 at 10:48 pm

Some Man U (much loved by Gelbs) supporter posing as Thierry contributed to points in his post no 50.

One was claiming Ferguson never complains about Chelsea’s money whereas he was quoted earlier this year as follows:

Johannesburg Star journalist Rodney Hatman was a guest at the charity dinner for 700 guests at Turffontein racecourse.

He said: “Ferguson was asked what he thought about Chelsea and in the midst of his answer he said that they were ‘hell-bent on ruining football’.

“He also said there was no way his own club could match their money, that Chelsea were just buying up players and the chances of them all playing were pretty slim.”

His other contribution was “Tonight, Arsenal will NOT beat Wigan”

Well thanks for your contribution - completely useless as it was.

  • 73. arsenalist  |  December 13th, 2006 at 10:50 pm

    Here’s the Wigan win:

    Adebayor Goal

  • 74. Thierry Henry  |  December 13th, 2006 at 11:13 pm

Ooooooooooh! Arsenal gets lucky again. Wigan 15 shots (7 on target) and Arse 10 shots (3 on target). Wigan were all over you guys.

It was so funny when your ‘beast’ turned out to be the pussiest of all pussies! Classless arses. You got lucky this time.

  • 75. Wanker  |  December 13th, 2006 at 11:27 pm

So was your mum last night when i gave her a taste of the action

  • 76. Amos  |  December 13th, 2006 at 11:43 pm

Wigan didn’t have any real chances - apart from Heskey’s - but it was only Heskey. Most of the problems we had were ones we created for ourselves - giving the ball away needlessly - some sloppy passing - notably from Eboue but he wasn’t alone.

At least we learn’t that Walcott is what he is - a talented young kid - and not the second coming. Baptista’s ‘beast’ tag does look a little incongruous but he showed some nice touches and a great pass to put Walcott through. Could have done with Hleb instead of Walcott but at least he is rested for Saturday. Flamini worked hard and covered a lot of ground and should have done enough to make some of his doubters think again.

I can’t for the life of me understand what Sky were trying to make of Cesc’s tackle in the build up to the first goal. It was about as perfect an example of a ball winning tackle as you could get. Despite asking everyone except the tea lady they couldn’t find any one who could see anything wrong with it but they kept parading it as though we got away with something. What’s that all about?

  • 77. dave  |  December 14th, 2006 at 12:29 am

Sky equals ManUSA (much loved by Gelbs)

  • 78. :..)_"_Respect Highbury  |  December 14th, 2006 at 12:53 am

    The positives:
    1) We won 1-0
    2) Akinbayor scored again and had a decent 2nd half
    3) For all those who said Fabregas “cannot put his foot in” and is “not all that”, would you like some Cornish clotted cream with that humble pie? (scoff it down quick too, before Fat Fwank eats it, lol)
    4) That fat tosser Jewell got some pie also tonight - although it is not the kind he will be able to scoff down with usual gusto. As it was also, humble pie.
    5) Chelski showed the world what a boring, tepid, narcoleptic “team” they are, by scraping it late and 1-0 past Newcastle reserves. It is true we did not beat them: but our team did not cost £300 million, did it?

    The negatives:
    1) The guy posting as Thierry Henry is a gloryhunting nob, so unsatisfied by his own team (has not won a trophy in 3 years and counting) that, he spends his time on Arsenal blogs. How pathetic a life of systematic envy can become….
    2) Clichy should NEVER bother overlapping again. Ever.
I am so tired of seeing the boy do the hardest thing in the game, i.e. bomb forward and get to the by-line..only to totally fluff his lines. Rubbish.
    3) Clichy should probably not bother defending also. Clichy cannot time a tackle to save his life, and I am glad others are starting to take note. He did this at home to Liverpool against Jermaine Pennant but we were 3-0 up and it woulda been a consolation goal. He did it again at Porto on at least 3 separate occasions. He also fell asleep at West Ham, and they ended up scoring.
    4) PIRES! Was the only word I could say during the whole of one of the most tepid and pointless first halves of football I have seen under Wenger. The left side of midfield is so genuinely lacking in width it is untrue. No natural width. Fred tried but he is not the Fred of yore. And to think that just 3 years ago we had the 2 best in the business……:-(
NEEDS to be addressed. You will note that Europe’s top 2 teams of the day (Barca and ManUre) both play with natural wingers. Barca have Messi and Giuly, ManUre have diving queen Ronaldo. We have nobody.
    5) The Beast looked like a pussycat. I still think he will come good soon though
    6) I would even have Reyes back in an instant
    7) Wenger’s team selection: make no mistake - although it was nice to see us scrape a win, we were almost punished, a la Fulham, for Wenger’s underestimation of the opposition.
Resting Fab for a key away game, but playing him at home to the likes of Watford and Sheffield U is just plain strange.
Wigan are no attacking powerhouses. I do not know why we did not play just Gilberto holding, and Bap in front of him (although it is easier said after the event, I agree)
    8) Is it just me or is that maybe the slowest I have seen Arsenal play for some years??! Just do not seem to possess the same speed on the break anymore, Walcott aside obviously. We seemed almost pedestrian at times…

I like Eboue though, he loses focus but Laurne will surely give him a kick up the arse. Anyway…well done Arse.
1 win down, 5 more, on the tro to go.

    Where’s Henry?????!

  • 79. :..)___Respect Highbury  |  December 14th, 2006 at 12:58 am

Jens! Jens! Over Here! Jens! It’s Me! Jens!
Says Frank Lampard of Jens Lehmann in The Sun:

“For me, it’s all in the heat of battle and nonsense to start talking to the media about it afterwards.”

All very noble, and we can assume Frank won’t go whining to the media just as soon as he’s scoffed down his next chicken burger. Oh wait, we don’t even have to wait that long. Whines Frank in his very next sentence:

“But the other week myself and my cousin Jamie Redknapp were out to dinner in a London restaurant and Lehmann was sitting just feet from us on another table.

“We acknowledged him and he completely blanked both of us.”

Is anyone surprised? Frank was probably hidden behind his stack of pies, and ignoring Jamie Redknapp is a national pastime.

  • 80. cesc is the only  |  December 14th, 2006 at 8:01 am

well done lads,it wasnt one of the best football but a result is what
was needed.now get ready for the next 5 games.we must win all of them

  • 81. India-Gunner  |  December 14th, 2006 at 8:13 am

I reckon the luck is starting to get back to us. Less shot on/off target than opposition yet won the game. Not an impress display from the young gunners. They played better against Chelski. Still lack of consistency.

Bring back Reyes. We need natural left winger. Any body know when is Lauren is coming back? Need more competition on the right back.

Now I understand why Baptista wasn’t fileded in Chelski game. He still need some time to adapt to the EPL way of playing football.

Time is running out for Ljunberg.

  • 82. DeiseGooner  |  December 14th, 2006 at 9:30 am

Talking to yourself now Blog Head i see, you tool. Do you live on here or something ? :o)

  • 83. ruralgoon  |  December 14th, 2006 at 10:16 am

Dont expect Glen Hoddle to appear as a sky pundit again any time soon; he said that cesc’s tackle was absolutely perfect, that we deserved the win and that though the team is young it has so much talent… the manc- orientated sky bosses WILL NOT LIKE THAT ONE LITTLE BIT!!! it was actually quite disturbing to find myself agreeing with the hodmeister at all… but i couldnt argue!! Good to see us scrapping out a win- it doesnt matter how we win, as long as we do.. then we can add the flair!

  • 84. adam  |  December 14th, 2006 at 11:01 am

after saying “wenger knows” for so long, today is the final straw. the man is a stubborn twit. he wont change whats not working cos he’s always right.

I agree completely on the substitutions, was thinking at least give them half an hour. wenger, you were 2 minutes away from looking like a complete fool. dont you learn from your mistakes?

against, fulham, gut the team and lose. against wigan, remove all the flair players and hope for the best. we got lucky and if you keep this up we will get beaten again. van persie should have started, he was fresh, didnt play at chelsea so why rest him? gotta at least have one player who can create something. if you want to rest fabregas, why rest hleb and vp? reckless and ridiculous decision.

wenger, you are the new steve mclaren. he changed 2 a formation that didnt suit the players and they got belted. at least HE had the brains not to do it again.
4 5 1 is crap and you said you’d never play like that, arsenal would always play attacking 4 4 2. YOU LIED. and now look.

the start to the season is NOT because of our young team and all your other excuses, like henry, stadium, injuries, etc.
your responsibility and your fault, stop being so stubborn learn from your mistakes and do something about it.

  • 85. Arsene Wenger  |  December 14th, 2006 at 11:05 am

    Adam,

    Fuck off you little shit

  • 86. Herbert Chapman  |  December 14th, 2006 at 11:05 am

Was that Gary McCallister saying how lucky Cesc was to get away with the tackle? He’ll get to do another Arsenal game soon then.
Thought Adebayor done well overall. Give Baptista a bit more time and he’ll do the business. Judging by his performance yesterday though Arsene was right not to have played him much so far. When he’s got that extra sharpness he’ll do a good job for us.

  • 87. adam  |  December 14th, 2006 at 11:09 am

    fuck you too

  • 88. Arsene Wenger  |  December 14th, 2006 at 11:13 am

  • 89. adam  |  December 14th, 2006 at 11:16 am

well dont say that we will only play 4-4-2 because 4-5-1 is not the way arsenal want to play and then do the opposite then stick with it even when its obviously not working. i feel betrayed and horrified.
and who you calling a little fuck you dont know me, for all i know you are a 3 foot dwarf

  • 94. "___Respect Highbury  |  December 14th, 2006 at 11:33 am

What ARSEBLOGGER had to say about our “performance”:

“I can’t even bring myself to write anything about the first half against Wigan because I would just offend somebody. To say it was like watching two pub teams hack the ball around on a Sunday as they all try to run off their Saturday 15 pints and kebab hangovers would be an insult to pub teams. It was to football what Jose Mourinho is to not being a complete and utter fucking cunt.
There was more action in the first three minutes of the second half than there was in the whole of the first. And the second half was shit as well.”

    There’s more…..

“We can’t rest Cesc because he is what makes this team tick. He is our creative outlet. Without him we’ve got nobody to make the killer pass and the team know it. Nobody makes the runs, nobody goes forward because they know there’s nobody to give them the ball if they do.”

“If the manager feels we don’t have the players for a 4-4-2 then there’s an easy solution. Open your chequebook, Arsene, and sign some players who can come into this side now and make a difference straight away and not in two or three seasons time.”

Point? I realise that we are constrained by the new stadium but, we have spent nigh on nothing on transfers over the summer - 5 million net.
It is time to sort out the left-back position pls, I do not care if its even overrated Abidal. At least he defends better than Clichy.
And I know some people do not rate Ribery but tbh, that is like electing between deal, or no deal? Exactly.
We have no bloody width, and were nothing short of useless last night. Time to sort it out Arsene……

  • 95. adam  |  December 14th, 2006 at 11:33 am

By the way, just read this quate from Ronaldo (the red one) Ronaldo rejected allegations that he was a diver and the Manchester United winger appealed for Premiership officials to take a tougher stance against the “dirty” opponents he claims are trying to kick him out of the game. PMSL!!

Nice to see your back to lowering the tone again mate. Nice!

  • 108. Clock End Gooner  |  December 14th, 2006 at 12:21 pm

    Well said Joshin,

It’s unbelievable how people are slating us, after a fucking WIN yesterday! Yeah, it was a poor performance, and we were lucky to come out with 3 points… but when Chelsea do it, “ohh, it’s a sign of champions…”
People seem to have forgotten, that we’ve played the yids at home, Porto away & Chelsea away, in the space of a week, so of course we were going to be below par, in this game.
Don’t forget, we’ve still got Tel, Willy, Rosicky, Diaby & Lauren, all to come back, so once they are all back and we’re still struggling, come may, then maybe it’s time to judge Wenger… until then, shut your fucking mouths, ungrateful, supposed, “Gooners”!

  • 109. Clock End Gooner  |  December 14th, 2006 at 12:22 pm

    Don’t give a fuck king,

  • 110. King Kolo  |  December 14th, 2006 at 12:28 pm

    CEG,

I agree with what you said 100% and anyone who cant see that, cant obviously see the bigger picture.

Your second post? nice attitude to have mate!!!! taking it down to that level, is taking it a bit TOO far, if you ask me mate!

  • 111. Clock End Gooner  |  December 14th, 2006 at 12:33 pm

    Cheers mate!
Some people are just so fucking fickle, it’s beyond belief!
Can you imagine what these “supporters” would be like, if they supported say, someone like Villa? Grow up & learn to take the rough, with the smooth.

    2nd:
I don’t like resorting to that level mate, but the Blog Head cunt has been on here, for months and the ignoring him policy, does nothing! Day in, day out, he’s on here abusing people, and nothing ever done about it! I’ve noticed that if you dish back, some abuse, he fuck off, so if that’s the level I’ve gotta resort to, then so be it!

  • 112. DeiseGooner  |  December 14th, 2006 at 12:42 pm
