Song has a score to settle with Adebayor

231 guns April 23rd, 2010

After our previous league encounter with Manchester City, Alex Song was one of the more outspoken players:

“Ade was a ‘big brother’. In London, I was almost living at his place, and he at mine. Once he went to City, it’s true that our relationship was not what it had been before. I called him two or three times, and he didn’t call me back.

I’m not going to force him to do it. And I’m not going to have a laugh with him when I see him in the tunnel.

Afterwards, on the pitch, he started to kick. He kicked everyone. That’s not normal! He was aggressive. There was a free-kick in their favour and he slapped me. Coming from him - I couldn’t believe it.

He disappointed me because the person I knew was not the person I met again that day.”

Adebayor is not the person Song once knew.  On that day in Manchester, he was twisted by bitterness in to a snarling, slapping, face-raking imbecile.  Whether or not the harrowing events of the past few months - including that terrorist attack on his Togolese team bus - have given Adebayor a much needed sense of perspective remains to be seen.  Even if he has mellowed, this game will inevitably bring up the tensions that bubbled to the surface with ugly effect in September.

Adebayor disrespected Song - a player who had viewed him not only as a mentor but a friend.  So it’s not surprising that Song has recovered from injury at the last minute.  The Cameroon midfielder has proven himself to be a brave, combative, quality player in this season, with a character and temperament more befitting of an Arsenal player than his one-time friend.

Tomorrow, there will be only be one winner.  And only one Song.

I think, in all honesty, the Arsenal fans of that should be looking at themselves a lot more than Adebayor should look at his own behaviour. Yes, the stamp was poor form, but other than that the rest of the Gunners talk about him seems to be ‘he tackled me a bit hard and i hurt my foot’.

    It sounds a little pathetic.

I think both teams have a lot more to worry about than how the ex Arsenal players will get on and how the fans will reacts. Both teams need a win.

It’s a pity that your articles and the comments of your players don’t look at the bigger picture rather than getting involved in an ‘easy win’.

    Peace

After the last couple of weeks we’ve had it would be no surprise if he ends up on the scoresheet. Typical of him, he’ll up his game playing us. I really hope I’m wrong. Its a pity we don’t have a full team to put out as it would have been great to put one over on him for September. We certainly won’t be the most potent gunners he’s faced all season. Sorry. I’m going to hell. I know.

….and what of Arsenal’s fans that day? You gave the bloke stick even during the warm up, could you not take a bit of celebrating in front of you without reporting it to the Police and threatening to start a riot?

    Robbo,
Whoever you are, thiis an Arsenal blog. By definition we know a whole lot more about the situation than you do. About his lack of effort while playing for us. About his bitching and whining in the media. Not to mention his transparent games around staying or going during the summer before last. About the fact that he is solely motiovated by who is prepared to pay him more than the contract he only recently signed. As a result, nobody on here is interested in your view. Please go away and troll somewhere else.

Arsenal fans were a joke that day. Your hypocrisy ranks alonside that of the infamous Sir Bacon Face Ferguson. And I don’t even like Adebayor.

play 10 against 11 if it comes 2 dat but don’t play Silvestre tomorrow at all. I fancy us taking a chance wit a player short than 2 watch d manure reject do what he does best-floppy defending!

I travelled up to the City game. Our fans spent 45 minutes BEFORE the game practicing the, then new, 5 foot 4 song. The Ade taunting was relentless. The Big Man had the last laugh though. Big time and the 5 feet 4 brigade had to eat sh*t. Great goal. Even better moment when he skinned our entire defence down the right side and was unlucky not to score again. A great player, a great entertainer. A big loss. With him up front this season, our season would have been much better - by much more than 5 feet 4 - he’s much bigger than that and so is his Arsenal goal tally.

Ade was immense on THAT day! More of the same please, He answered your taunts by scoring and kicking the crap out you. Heroic stuff. That day is already legendary! (the other way around and you’d have loved it, admit it!) Prediction….. 1-3.

Just for the fear of seeing Silvestre’s ‘legendary backtracking’, can we just play Sagna as a CB along with Campbell? I mean, have a defence of Eboue, Sagna, Campbell and Clichy with Song and Diaby in front of them. Silvestre is a disaster waiting to happen and playing him 2moro is as good as a loss.

Can AW just tell Diaby to please stay back and defend for once? He is often caught out upfront and his rate of back tracking leaves the defence exposed!

Then we play Nasri, in front of them and have Bendtner, RvP and Rosicky upfront.Wenger should never start with Walcott! I hope we stay calm and alert against City rather than rush at them just to prove to everyone that the loss to Wigan was a ‘mistake’ or attempt to prove a point(we the fans know better anyway) as this means we push forward and open ourselves to their swift counter attacks and driving runs triggered by Bellamy, SWP or Tevez.

I hope we have learnt our lessons from the similar way we lost the reverse fixture against them, the Carling Cup match and the Man Utd games home and away.

PS…….if he was that bad why did Arsene keep picking him?

  • 14. clockendrider  |  April 23rd, 2010 at 2:55 pm

The man scored when he shouldn’t even have been on the pitch having attempted to blind a fellow player. Not much to brag about I’d have thought. And then procededed to run further and faster than he had done for the entire preceeding season. You are welcome the the mental fragility which has seen him row with every club he has played at as well as retire and rejoin his national side on an annual basis. As well as missing 20% of this season through bans.
I’m afraid if his talent was as big as his own opinion of it, he’d be playing at one of the great clubs. As it is, he’s actually realised his limitations as a player and as a man and has decided to spend his career continually trying to get an improved contract the moment the ink is dry on the one he’s just signed.
    Best of luck.

    Well said, clockend!

City fans are idiots. They know nothing about Ade. We do. We too had a love-in period with him. That quickly faded.

Just as it did in EVERY OTHER CLUB he’s played for. And his national team. He’s had trouble WITH EVERY TEAM HE’S EVER PLAYED FOR and been sold on. The idiot City fans will learn soon enuf what the real Ade’s like.
