But yes, the too-good-to-be-true transfer of Julio Baptista has finally collapsed under the weight of an offer from Real Madrid. He should he unveiled as the latest Galactico come Monday. First Robinho, then this. No wonder we didn’t want to sell them Vieira. Perhaps this is their revenge for us sneaking him off to Juve behind their backs.

Oh well. I’m sure we’ll sign someone else, like…

So anyway, we beat Ajax 1-0. And Arturo Lupoli got the goal, very late on, after some good work from substitute Alex Hleb. He looks a tidy player, who loves to run at defenders. Another promising performer was substitute David Bentley, who made an appearance on the right-hand side of midfield, and put in a lot of very solid work.

On Sunday we face Porto.

That’s about it, really.

It’s still there. The good - Hleb, Eboue, Bentley, Toure, Flamini. The bad - Pires in central midfield, Henry (by his standards), Lauren, Reyes.

Why is Baptista a twat ? Just because he didn’t come to Arsenal ? Thats the way it goes, Real Madrid are a bigger club, they’ve won the European cup as many times as we’ve won the FA cup for godsakes.

It’s all his agents fault, Baptista was like a lost sheep in this transfer.
I can’t see him replacing Ronaldo or Zidane in the starting line-up, and if they play him as a Defensive Midfielder it won’t help his international aspirations at all.
Hopefully this was all a distraction for Real Madrid, so they waste there money on him, and we sneakily buy Torres.
Hleb was good tonight, so was Lupoli and Bentley.

hleb, FLAMINI is the man, lupolidid well. reyes did a lot of running,defending, but was stopped all the time by the inefficient slow games of the capt and pires.

I dont think anyone would have slagged of baptista if he had been honest from the start, but he wasn’t. He led wenger to believe that he would join & left his options open until madrid came in for him. Wenger would probably have gone for someone else by now had he been honest. Personally I dont know why he signed for madrid knowing that they only wanted him cos they could not get robinho. So he has gone to a club where he was not even first choice simply a makeshift backup.

The Ajax match showed us playing the pretty pretty football that looks good in worthless pre-season competitions like this but with no steel in mid-field sufficient for those away games in the PL and ECL.We must buy another hard man MD begfore the transfer deadline or land up with nothing this season

Kim, I bet because a lot of us think he’s just not physically ready to play in the first team, as Wenger implied. He is a different type of striker than we’ve had; I think he could be anonymous for long periods of time then pop up to decisively score. So we may have to judge him a bit differently.
