…He´s gone. Yep. He´s actually gone.
0 guns July 14th, 2005
But dont worry. We´ve cloned him. Only he´s white. Look:
Oh no, wait…
Anyhow, getting back to the point, I´ll allow Paddy himself to explain:
â??When you spend nine years at the Club, like I did, it is a difficult decision to leave. But in the end you have to make a choice for your future. It was a very difficult decision, but I am happy with it.
“I made the decision to leave because I felt it was time for me to have a new challenge. But that does not mean I was unhappy or that I was having a problem at Arsenal.
“It was just that I had the feeling I needed to grow and meet a new challenge, and I feel Juventus was the best challenge for me.
“Iâ??d like to thank the Arsenal fans. They have been fabulous. Even recently in the street they were saying â??if you are going, then thanks for the last nine yearsâ??. That is really touching and it makes me feel that I gave my best for the Club.
“I can go with my head held high. I did my best every day in training and in every match, and I left shaking the hand of Arsène Wenger and Mr Dein. That was really important to me.”
He´s right. It´s nice that when he finally went, it was amicable. And that his last kick for the club won the FA Cup.
I´m sure there´ll be a significant replacement up Arsene´s sleeve. But in the meantime, don´t panic. As Le Boss says:
“Weâ??ll be strong next season and we need you behind us like you have always been. We will not disappoint you.”

not bad money for a 29yr old no matter how good you are,
i’m not worried though because Wengers the man so he will bring someone in,
personally i think we should play Toure in midfield he’s an excellent tackler, strong and full of pace, we can always find another defender theres plenty of good ones out there

Patrick, for the past ten years you have been my favorite player…hands down…the consumate midfield hard man…loads of love and wishing you good luck in Italy from here is the USA…I will miss you and you Vicks covered jersey haha
So…who is going to be captain now? Do you think Wenger did this to entice Ashley with the captaincy???

You lot are fickle spastics. Lets face it Wenger doesn’t know how we will cope without Vieira because he’s been with him from the start. This is a risk especially if he’s going for jenas as a replacement..

Hi GS, I am also in spain paying huge amounts to access the net. Just as the sale of Stam marked the end of fergie, I fear this will do the same for Wenger. Who on earth are we going to get to replace him?
If reports of Jenas are true then I’ll be very disappointed. What sort of message does the sale of Vieira send out about our title and transfer ambitions? Chemi and Pats Rice (if he has returned) must be having a field day on the arseblog forums and rightly so.
Adios
Che Grimandi

Silly trolls coming out. Juve, who limped out of the CL looking impotent, are now kings of the world? Sure they are.
Check out how other players Arsenal sold late in their careers did. Vieira is done or close to it.
Everyone is questioning Wenger even though he’s done better in the market with less than almost any other club. Morons.

Grow up you little child. Arsenal will be better next season, mark my words.

The sky is falling. How do we replace Overmars, Petit, Anelka, or Tony Adams for that matter? Another year of a half-committed Vieira would not be good. He was a fantastic player for us, but he wanted to leave in the end. The mantra continues; trust in le boss.

What a quick turnaround…

Reportedly pretty close according to the Times. We’ll see if he’s actually Paddy’s “replacement.”
20. Anonymous | July 16th, 2005 at 12:47 am
Good, luck Paddy. See you in Paris in May.

[...] Arsene Wenger usually gets his man. He may have had to wait for a whole year, but Julio Baptista is finally is. It was July 2005 when Wenger made one his bravest managerial decisions to date: to sell Patrick Vieira to Juventus. But how best to replace him? Michael Carrick, Javier Mascherano, and Mahmadou Diarra had all previously been taken into consideration, but there was one man who Wenger saw as impressive beyond all others: Baptista. [...]
