It’s cliché time – Eight cup finals await

Between now and the end of the season, Arsenal have eight remaining league fixtures.  Its an old cliché now, but each one really is a cup final.  As the weeks go by, the initiative in the race for third and fourth spot will doubtless flit back and forth across London.  Spurs and Chelsea, however, have the distraction of other cup competitions.  In the battle for Premier League position, it’s a blessing and a curse.  All Arsenal have to do is take each game as it comes, and as Arsene Wenger put it in his pre-match press conference, “fight like mad” to make sure we take maximum points.

The run-in continues this afternoon at QPR.  They’re desperate for points in their fight against relegation, and for that reason alone I expect this to be a tricky tie.  Bobby Zamora always gives us trouble at the back, and so it’s good news that we’re once again able to call on one of our players of the season, Laurent Koscielny.

I expect Arsene to go with the XI that won at Goodison Park, bringing Aaron Ramsey back in the side ahead of Gervinho.  However, he may decide he can afford an extra attacker, and leave the Welshman out in favour of the Ivorian, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, or Yossi Benayoun.

It’s crunch time now.  Third place is in our hands, and failing that, fourth spot would be quite the consolation considering our early-season travails.  But it won’t be easy.  Tottenham’s poor form coincided with a very tricky run of fixtures that is now over, and anyone who saw them demolish Bolton in midweek would conclude they’re back to their best.

We can’t afford any unnecessary slip-ups, including today.  It’s a cup final, after all.

Ah, back to the Gunners we know and love. Poor ball movement, shaky and conceding goals at the back. It’s like the good ol’ days!

      lol

      Don’t be facetious!

Please judge Wenger on the last 7 games, not the last 7 seasons!

    test 2

  3. Musky   •

RvP is not confident right now, AW is useless at changing the tide of a game, losing and still no Ox or Gervy, Ramsey has looked square peg round hole since he has back, why he is strating I do not know..

This site has been bloscing my comments under a different email address, foul play GS.

Wenger is a bit dumb isn’t it, talks the world about momentum and just weathers the storm with no subs no matter how bad things are getting, finally makes the subs when we have fully surrendered the initiative, WOW.

When its going well he is okay, but whe things are bad not a clue how to go about wrestling the iniative back. We can’t beat a team 3rd from bottom, outplayed and unable to retrieve the ball back at time, sigh. So many players off colour this game.

Some genuine class is needed not a team puching above weight or carried by performnaces of 1 or 2 at time, many leaders where lacking.

Rocky passing up clear shooting space like he is Hleb, once called the Hammer, more rubber mallet now, I await the summer, or the so called pre-tournament signings.

We should never call it a cup final because as we all know, we don’t do well in cup finals. Lets just hope that the spuds slip up and we can just forget about the QPR game and concentrate on stayin in 3rd

  6. Musky   •

So disappointing in the manner which we lost.

  7. Musky   •

The most shocking performance was that of the manager.

  8. Musky   •

Dylan, Spuds will probably choke tomorrow, Chelsea have closed and play us soon, so that will be interesting.

  9. Musky   •

RvP went Ade on us, he doesn’t look confident for a player who says he doesn’t get nervous (right!) in those situations.

Not been the same since the Champo miss. If he keeps this drought up, we will drop 3rd at least and Rooney will finish top goalscorer.

  10. Musky   •

Well lets se if they put it right next game, once again, shocking was Arsene’s input during the match.

If arsenal do not or cannot lock teams out routinely we will get no where near winning a thing as the last 7 years have proved, still trying to punch above the weight of the mediocre premiership top 2.

    • Munitionsman   •

Hard to lock teams out when ur dm is an am half the time and your cb (tv) goes on marauding runs forward like no other cb in the league. That’s why his concentration at the back is not what it should be. Wenger out

Bit of an overdramatic headline? Talk about over the top statements. Did the government’s Francis Maude write this?

More like 8 dead rubbers await.

Sounds like today’s game had an end of season feel to it. I’d expect nothing less. Our season did finish in February (officially), but with the clown in charge, our season was over before it even started.

Anyway, let the love-in with Wenger continue. What was it some joker said on here the other day – nothing short of a miracle where we are today? 15 points adrift of the leaders. Give me strength!

for the love of God, Wenger buy quality forwards in the transfer window. chamakh, bendtner, park, and i think gervino too is rubbish. he runs around a lot like walcott but doesn’t accomplish much for the scoreboard. He’s an even worse finisher than Walcott.

but hey, at least we’re still better than loserpool. maybe.

    • Wegrice Weguamba   •

we have benny, charlie and joely all on loan.

DO YOU WANT TO KILL THESE KIDS WITH A NEW SIGNING?????

  14. Wegrice Weguamba   •

Never fear, Weg is here! And remember, it’s not the end of the world if we lose the odd match in the run in. As long as Chelsea and Tottenham lose as well, we’ll be doing well.

We were never going to win 15 games in a row! We do’nt have the squad for that. I am happy if we win 14 games and lose once in this run=in to the title. Let’s hope we acn acehieve something like that!

I can forsee that 4th placed trophy sitting in our cabinet very soon! Maybe after 20 consecutive 4th placed trophies, we get to keep the original… hmmm?

  15. Munitionsman   •

Well spuds are smacking it and chavs are dead so yeah wenger has once again achieved exactly what his mentality sets as acceptable for his squad. Arsenal are now actually afraid to compete because of the pressure that goes with it. This is a squad in the managers image and we are going nowhere with wenger neither up nor down!!

All good things come to an end.

At least we had 7 great weeks of not having to put up with the whining drivel of boo boys.

  17. shaun   •

Was expected I guess , whats really worrying is that the manager suspects complacency within the squad .Have to say I don’t really understand why a team who has one nothing in seven years would be complacent but hey I don’t understand much that happens at arsenal these days ,but hey that was a really bad three points to loose but who knows for some reason I feel we will win against city

  18. R.S.P.C.Arsenal   •

    newsflash… arsenal lose shocker….

  19. F@bz   •

Fucking team…looks like Spurs will finish 3rd now….and that’s the most disgusting part.

We still have to face Man City & Chelsea!!!

AW place never start Ramsey again, please!!
