MANCHESTER UNITED 8 – 2 ARSENAL
Match Report | Highlights Video | Arsene’s reaction
A couple of weeks ago, when Cesc Fabregas left for Barcelona and Samir Nasri seemed determined to follow him through the door, I told you that “the night is darkest just before the dawn”. It’s a turn of phrase I had heard the character of Harvey Dent use in Christopher Nolan’s Batman film, ‘The Dark Knight’. It’s supposed to engender comfort among troubled souls; to tell them that although things seem bad, they are almost certainly about to get better.
I conveniently forgot to mention that shortly afterwards Dent loses half his face in a fire and becomes a psychopathic killer. The night, for Gotham, just gets darker. And so it has proved for Arsenal’s start to the season, as yesterday we reached what we can only hope is our nadir, losing 8-2 to our supposed rivals Manchester United.
8-2. 8-2. It doesn’t look like a real result. I believe in the old days of teletext, eight is the point at which they’d spell out the number in letters (eg. Manchester United 8 (E I G H T)) to assure you it wasn’t a typo. It’s a shocking scoreline, in every sense.
The writing was on the wall as soon as the line-up was announced. Robbed of Vermaelen and Sagna to injury and illness respectively, the XI took on the look of a Carling Cup team, with Jenkinson, Traore, and Coquelin all involved from the start. The bench was even more distressing, with names like Chamberlain, Ozyakup, and Sunu all awaiting league debuts.
With such a weak line-up, the relatively experienced heads of Djourou, Koscielny, Rosicky and Arshavin had a duty and responsibility to hold things together and make sure the defence was not exposed.
That, as we all know, is not how it turned out. The defending was apocalyptically, comically bad. By the time goals five, six, seven and eight hit the net, I was laughing through the anguish. Here are our errors, catalogued:
Goal 1: The cracks began to show when Carl Jenkinson was caught way out of position, allowing Patrice Evra to charge in behind. Theo Walcott did brilliantly to get back and recover the situation, but was even quicker to let Jenkinson know what he thought of his defending, leading to a slanging match between the pair that carried on as we defended the resulting corner.
When the ball was cleared as far as Anderson, more horrors followed. His wedged pass over the defence should have been cleared, but for a combination of indecision and cowardice that allowed Danny Welbeck to steal in and score. First Johan Djourou inexplicably allowed the ball to bounce inside his own area, and then Koscielny ducked out of a challenge with the English forward. A Martin Keown or Sol Campbell would have put his body on the line to prevent a goal. Koscielny is not that man.
Goal 2: Again came from Wayne Rooney running in behind Jenkinson. Coquelin could’ve been quicker to close Ashley Young down too, but what a strike nonetheless.
Goal 3: Sorry Carl, but there was another basic positional error from the teenager here. Young was goal-side and Jenkinson had no choice but to bring him to ground, leading to a sensational free-kick from Wayne Rooney.
Goal 4: Wojciech Szczesny, who made several good saves on the day, made the classic mistake of edging across goal behind his wall and allowing Rooney the space to curl a terrific dead ball in to the far corner.
Goal 5: Goal five exhibited our most spectacularly bad defending. Andrey Arshavin, who found himself in the left-back position, stepped up alongside Johan Djourou, whilst Traore and Jenkinson were left behind. This left Nani onside and unmarked to score.
Goal 6: A couple of errors from Johan Djourou here, who dived in on Park, missed his tackle, and then failed to track the Korean when he broke free.
Goal 7: A penalty conceded by Theo Walcott. No complaints at all from the winger about the award – his trip on Evra seemed to be born as much out of frustration as any realistic attempt to defend.
Goal 8: Another sumptuous finish by young, but again Djourou found himself standing too far off in no-man’s land.
Amidst all the awfulness, there were a couple of goals for Van Persie and Walcott, a missed penalty by the Dutchman, a red card for Jenkinson after another positional error, and several instances in which Andrey Arshavin was lucky not to join him in receiving his marching orders. If you have lots of time and a similar amount of self-loathing then I suggest you read the match report linked at the top of the page.
I’ve touched on our weakened team. It’s no excuse. We had injuries? So did they. United were without their first-choice central defensive pairing of Ferdinand and Vidic, as well as key midfielders like Michael Carrick and Antonio Valencia. Our team was young? Well, on average, United’s was younger. What we witnessed yesterday was, plainly, inexcusable.
Some of the performances were dire. You’ll have noticed that Jenkinson’s name crops up repeatedly in the listed litany of mistakes. He looked very much like a player who has played a handful of games in the Conference and League One – unsurprising, because that’s exactly what he is. He managed to get through the game against Udinese on Wednesday, but here he was out of his depth, and drowning. The same could be said for Armand Traore who, with Premier League and Serie A experience on his CV, has less excuses than Jenkinson. Johan Djourou is going backwards faster than the DeLorean time machine, and on a couple of occasions Laurent Koscielny showed that whilst he is an able defender, he is not willing to get hurt for the sake of stopping a goal.
And yet, for the most part, I don’t really blame the players – especially not kids like Jenkinson. As I’ve said before: it’s not their fault they’re out there. It’s the fault of the manager (and quite possibly the board) for failing to strengthen a squad that has simultaneously been stripped of some of its most prized assets.
Bank balance aside, the numbers don’t look good for the manager – and I don’t just mean the glaring ‘8’ on the scoreboard; the first time we’ve conceded that many goals in a game since 1896.
It’s Arsene’s worst ever start to a Premier League season. Taking in to account our form at the back end of last season, it’s also our worst ever run under him. Since losing the Carling Cup Final to Birmingham, we’ve won just three league games. One was against Blackpool. And, to help matters, we’ve now had a player sent off in each of our three domestic matches this season. We have more red cards than points.
Yesterday it was made painfully clear how far away our squad is from being able to compete with United. With no Ferdinand or Vidic, they were still able to call on two centre-backs who both looked more capable than our own. How it will have stung Arsene to know that Phil Jones rejected his overtures to sign with the Red Devils this summer. To outsiders, Jones’ choice is easy enough to understand: wouldn’t you rather sign for the club where you can learn from good, experienced defenders, and play for a manager who actually seems to care about the art of keeping clean sheets?
As poor as our defending was, United showcased a real ruthless quality in front of goal. Much of our attacking talent remained available, but do we have players with the ability (or perhaps more importantly, the confidence) to score the kind of goal that Ashley Young and Wayne Rooney did yesterday? Just so we’re all clear, Young cost United £16m – £1m more than we’ll end up paying for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who made an unmemorable debut as a substitute.
What sickened me more than anything was to watch this team perform without pride, and without belief. The players know the squad isn’t good enough to compete. It was written all over their performances – and some of them have even said as much. They were caught in a losing battle. When Van Persie and Walcott were withdrawn to fight another day, they sat down on the bench without so much as a glance at Wenger. Inside, they will have been fuming. You can bet that neither are in any mood to open contract negotiations anytime soon.
Meanwhile, the manager sat in the dugout, motionless. He didn’t even walk to the touchline to cajole his troops. He just sat there and watched his lambs slaughtered. You know Arsene is in trouble when he’s receiving pity from his supposed adversary. After the game, Alex Ferguson said, “we could’ve scored more, but you don’t want to score more against a weakened team like that”. It’s a comment almost as withering and humiliating as the scoreline.
As I watched at home, I briefly (and, I now realise, irrationally) wondered if Wenger might resign in the aftermath of the game. What changed my mind was our extraordinary fans, who for much of the second half drowned out the United supporters with a chorus of “We love you Arsenal”. They will have reminded Arsene of his commitment to this club. He won’t walk away now.
Nor should he. This is his mess, and he needs to fix it – a change of manager at this stage would benefit no-one. The obvious place to start is in the transfer market. A centre-half and a central midfielder are absolutely vital. We’d all like business to have been done earlier, but there’s no point moaning about that now: we’ve got three days to do the required repair work on this squad. Transfers can be done very quickly. Take the case of Park Chu-Young: Arsenal received news that Joel Campbell’s work permit appeal had been declined on Friday afternoon – by Saturday morning the Korean striker was on his way to London. That deal should have been completed last night, and will most likely be announced today, leaving Arsene and the board to concentrate on the other reinforcements we urgently require.
A particularly optimistic fan tweeted me last night to say that Feyenoord were once beaten 8-2 by Ajax but went on to lift the title in the same season. The performances of the two Manchester clubs yesterday, and by contrast our own, shambolic display, have shown us that winning the league is almost certainly impossible. However, we are perfectly capable of recovering from this to retain our Champions League spot, which has to be the realistic target for this campaign. Get the transfer business right, and our season could start against Swansea on September 10th.
Either that, or Arsene will lose half his face in a fire and become a psychopathic killer.

What hurt most today was not losing 8-2. Some of the goals United put in were top class. Could we have defended better? Absolutely, but some of those Sczcesny had no chance on. No, what hurt was the fact that the team appeared to quit. Lansbury comes into the game with a grin and just jogs??? Are you serious? Thats what hurts more than anything. We may be the pride of London but we sure as hell didn’t play like it.
Absolutely right. And Lansbury comes from the youth team, he should have more commitment in this club.
Was not sure about the grin… Thanks for the confirmation. What was that all about???
I’m looking forward to somebody who is good with Photoshop making us “Arsene-as-Two-Face”…
Of course, I’m not looking forward to watching this team trot onto the pitch anytime soon.
“play for a manager who actually seems to care about the art of keeping clean sheets?”
To be fair, we’ve kept the same number of clean sheets this season as United have done
– that counts as something positive, right?
Tell me more about this face in the fire scenario…
Honestly, I think you have said it all. If this doesn’t bring the systematic failures at the club into sharp relief nothing will.
Obviously we won’t play this team every week but it saddens me to see how far we are behind a club we once considered our closest rivals.
I made a comment on here a few weeks ago and to the AST – I want to see a thorough analysis of the internal structures – AW said 20 people are working on transfers. 20? WTF? What have they been doing all this time? 20 people to bring in 2 players in the next few days? It seems like a terribly inefficient allocation of resources currently.
Good point – a team of 20 people, a budget of 50 million and they cannot find 2 quality players who can sign for us??? I think Arsene should stop trying to hide the cracks and let us see what is REALLY going on.
It is not rocket science to list top 3 replacements for Cesc or Nasri in the world – more so if you HAVE STARTED looking early, more so if you HAVE MONEY to afford them!!!
So, Arsene, put collective responsibility aside and tell us what went wrong – why has it REALLY taken so long to beef up the team when YOU told us long ago that you will.
Exactly. I would love to read a tell autobiography of Arsene in a few years (presumably after he has left the club). He has made mistakes – some big ones – but the rhetoric from Gazidis and Wenger and the results re transfers simply don’t add up. It can’t simply be down to the tired excuses that Wenger is tight etc. There is something else fundamentally wrong. I am not defending AW but there is more to the current set of problems.
fully agree with you here mate,if you owned a car dealership and had 20 salesman going to auction with a budget of 50 million and they couldnt find one car between the 20 of them in 3 months you would sack the lot of them.perhaps the money is not there to spend but if thats the case then just say it so we can all get on the boards back instead of wengers.season ticket holders have a right to be pissed off paying those prices and the money not being put back into the team.we find ourselves in a similar if not worse situation than what liverpool were in at the start of last season perhaps we would be better off by letting usmanov taking over.we are going to be left behind if we carry on with our strict wage structure and stubborn ways i really fear for us at the moment
Wenger is too stubborn. At the end of each season he concedes that major changes need to be made. And then he recants.
The point you made regarding Ashley Young is sobering. Wenger purchased an unproven teenager for 17 million pounds. Ferguson paid a million less for an experienced and improving winger. His folly is laid bare for all to see.
The result may very well be an aberration, but it is the chickens coming home to roost nonetheless. We had it coming. Maybe now he will finally dispense with the nonsense. The players whom he invested so much faith in have abandoned him.
Today was a disgrace.
Not to nitpick, but the Ox was 7m upfront rising to 12 if all the incentives are hit. Lets not overstate his price.
Having said that, I still think the Ox money could have been put towards a talented young winger who could help this year – Mata? Hazard? With 7+ mill to add to the pot, we could have beaten Chelsea or pried him loose from Lille in all likelihood
Also, for Ashley Young’s position, we got Gervinho. That is where the comparison should be focused. Well not for this game because he did not play.
Wenger’s emperor new clothes finally exposed nakedly at Old Trafford. He is out of touch with the new football world. Time for him to go and have a well reserved rest.
Never in the history of Arsenal that we’ve encounter this kind of mauling and humilation
His departure is long over due, should be in 2006 after selling Patrick Vieria
Sad day, sad and hard as Arsenal Fan
He does appear out of touch. His position is rapidly becoming untenable. Fans will only associate a change in fortune at the club with a change in management. As you say, it is sad to see a great man go through this…
And people think I’m out of order for calling Wenger a ‘cunt’ ?
Wenger, what a cunt.
You can’t call him a cunt if you really are an Arsenal supporter.
ok , then we call him a saint !
Well, it’s because you are out of order.
Read some of this, http://bit.ly/euI2OJ . Think what he has meant to the club.
I was a fan before Wenger and things weren’t that amazing back then.
What top quality player would want to sign for a club that just got smashed 8-2??
Gazidis out
Hill-Wood out
Kreonke open your gob or get out too!!
‘They have class and they punished us’ Wenger said this at the press conference
Does this mean that we don’t and need to be humiliated by 8 goals or 1 goal every 11 minutes?
Speechless…..
Where do you start with a performance like that?
The fact that we have a weaker squad than at the end of last season? When it it was blindingly obvious we needed to strengthen?
That fact that our summer transfer activity has plummeted to new depths? Cesc has been gone for 2 weeks now and yet a replacement hasn’t been signed, even though everyone knew he was going. Why?
The fact that Nasri was sold so late in the transfer window when, again, it was obvious he wanted to leave and would be folly to hold onto him, and, again, there has been no replacement. Why?
The fact that Arsene keeps bleating on about how the club has ‘money to spend’ but will only spend on ‘super quality players’ and then buys a £3m striker from a relegated French team? (yes, I know he MAY be a good signing, but you get my point)
The fact that we still haven’t signed any defenders of note (I feel for Jenkinson – these are the kind of games that can destroy a kid)even though the club has acknowledged on many occasions we are defensively weak? Arsene said about the defending issues: “It’s something that’s easy to correct.”! Unbelievable! CORRECT IT THEN!
The fact that the team STILL CANNOT DEFEND? How many seasons is the quality of Arsenal’s defending going to get mocked up and down the country?
The fact that all but 2 of our defenders are of genuine top quality?
The fact that bids for targeted players are insultingly low? The fact that Arsenal’s valuation of players are not in line with the real world?
The fact that the club is willing to spending 12m plus on a 17 year old but won’t spend the same amount on an established international defender?
The fact that ‘Silent Stan’ has offered no words, no vision since he took over OUR club.
The fact that the club slapped on a %6.5 raise on the price of season tickets, then sell our best players, decrease the wage bill and sit on the money? Slap in the face anyone?
I could go on… but I fear for my sanity
The club has 3 days to bring in the necessary players, if not, this will be the ugliest season in a very long time.
I usually am a positive guy, seeing the light in the dark. But Arsenal’s performance was the darkest that I have ever seen. No clue how to defend and no ideas going forward. The defensive line’s too high, and concetration lapses seen every where. Lots of people said signings are to be done, but what about mentality? I can only guess in horror what Arsene’s team talk’s gonna be like. A very, very depressing dressing room that might have been. And Pat Rice, an Arsenal legend, where can the lads put their faces in front of him? What would he say? Signings must be made, that’s a certainty but internally these things have to be sorted out. Fast. I’m only 19, living in Indonesia which is a long way from london. I started liking Arsenal on 98, inside the glory days. I won’t be looking to be another club’s fan though, because I’m a gooner and we gooners never quit on our team. Ever. Victoria Concordia Crescit.
Disappointing.WENGER should go.i regret we qualified for CL so he knows how far down he’s taken us instead of drinking wit d STUPID BOARD.
I think an 8-2 drubbing from a team coached by a man he considered his equal tells Wenger all he needs to know.
Failure to qualify for the CL would be a blow to the club, players, fans long term. Please think about that.
do the right thing arsene if you love this club ,you have been a great servant to us and thank you ,you can hold your head up high for all that you have done but the time has come to say good bye.
Mate, I thought I was an optimistic gooner! I would like to think you’re right but my head tells me our great manager has lost his powers. He’s 61 I think, at that age anyone would want to bend things to the way they want it to be rather than do what’s necessary. Wenger and the stalling, strolling board are just not dynamic nor competitive enough for the club anymore. Our league record since the carling cup final is relegation form, and if we don’t get in some top players by Wednesday we’re looking at mid-table this May, and that’s leaning on the hopeful. I love Wenger as an ambassador for Arsenal and as a great man but the signs are there. It happened with George Graham, and he was like a god. But he lost it to. It is what happens when you’ve been at the same place for that amount of years, you go stale and complacent.
New signings aside, a bigger problem is our old boy first team coaches. Pat Rice has been amazing for the club but he’s completely past it, who knows what Boro Primo(whatever it is) is doing and we have a true winner like Steve Bould marginalised. He should be instructed to drill these lot in defence every day in training.
I really, really hope I’m wrong and I’ll continue to give Arsene and the team full vocal support at the home games but things need to change somewhere in the club.
I agree with most of what you say. The parallels with GG’s last season are a bit scary with a whiff of panic buys emerging – though we can’t forget the bung scandal.
However I am not sure Bould has been marginalised within the club…
Just read tottenham have entered the race for cahill. I don’t think ill be the only arsenal fan breathing fire if I wake up Thursday morning turn on sky sports and see cahill beaming with a spuds shirt on him . Hope wenger tries very hard this week . Perfect scenario would be cahill samba m villa and arteta for me . And another wide player .
I am sad and down, but still behind the team. that’s all i could say.
I ve followed arsenal since 1979 and have been loyal and always will but today was the worst in my arsenal life!!!
Remember they said teams like Leeds were “too good to go down” well thats what im afraid off as there is always the first time for everything!!!!I pray it wont.
We the fans can see what is wrong surely a super intelligent man like arsene must.
Will support while there is breath in me but from what division is scary!!
pathetic…
I really don’t know what all London based fans are waiting for? Get out on strike against this mugish Board and tell them they need to do something or GET OUT! I read an article that Arsene’s mouth is well shut and he has no right to even whisper about the board(contract obligations). He’s a very intelligent man and you can tell by the duality of his statements that something is wrong! It’s not his fault that we are not signing anyone. The board and Kroenke dictates it. While Dein was there we signed the best players in the world, now what? There is no other way to express your disagreement but to go on strike. Ticket price, signings, humiliations like this, name it. What did Liverpool fans do when they didn’t like the board? They went out massive and protested. So should you-London based fans. I suggest this must be done ASAP before the window shuts down. That way they’ll learn that the club is for the fans, and when they’re not happy they should leave. Of course that way we’ll learn is Wenger the guilty party or not. STAND UP FOR THE ARSENAL FOR REAL AND GO ON STRIKE!!!
You can probably add a 0 to the price of any transfer target. Talk about having someone over a barrel.
In the States, there are a number of sports franchises that intentionally fail to spend the money to field a competitive team, as they figure that their revenues are relatively constant, so the way to increase profit is to cut the expenses side of the business. (I’m thinking of Donald Sterling’s Los Angeles Clippers, for one.)
My concern here is whether Stan is taking this approach. Even though I am a Gooner in St. Louis (close to Kroenke’s home), I have no solid reason to believe that this is the case. (And Kroenke’s track record with sports franchises doesn’t suggest this path, either, in my opinion.) But I wonder whether Stan has ordered the the club needs to get its financial house in a bit more order. Assuming we’re not so bad as to go down, and with Champs League qualification sorted, we’re set with somewhat consistent revenues. I just worry that Stan’s dictated that the bottom line be improved, and that this will occur by not spending in the market.
After today, that thought depresses the hell out of me.
Wenger is a great technical director and builder of young talent but he is not a great manager. Last I checked Carlo Ancellotti is still available; he will build a world-class defense and spine throughout the team. At the very least let Wenger switch jobs with Liam Brady. At least Brady should get a chance at top management if we are too cheap to get Ancellotti.
Negative – dun wanna highlight more…
Positive – 1) Thanks to Alex Ferguson, he ‘slapped wenger
on his face’ for me..now wenger will wake up!
2) Stay positive,juz 3 games,lost 2 against Manu
Liv…8 points behind with 35 games to go!
3) Jenkinson,Djourou,Traore,Kos all TERRIBLE!
Can be part of team, but not CORE of the team!
4) Persie and Walcott on FIRE!
5) Wenger WILL bring players FOR SURE!
6) Better to get slaughtered 8-2 than lost 1-0 coz
wenger and the players will realise now how
terrible they are, and how far the level between
us and title contender!
7) Park joined. Gervinho joined. Cahill is a MUST.
Any creative AM is a MUST. Then, we will start
the league all over again with 8 points off d top!
NOT IN ARSENE WE TRUST…IN ARSENAL WE TRUST!!!
So many things to say…..
But here’s the first:
Rosicky should be bitch slapped – did anyone see what happened when Rooney scored his first freekick?
It’s quite unbelievable….Rosicky is in the wall, the ball goes over the wall and he carries on looking forward???? WTF, listens to the crowd cheer and then walks towards the half way line – The guy doesn’t even bother to turn around and follow the ball – hard to put into words unless you see it. What kind of attitude is this? The ball could have gone anywhere and in the meantime this cunt can’t even be bothered to look!!
Couldnt agree more! Absolutely incredible to see this and can’t believe people are not more irate over this! He should not ever play for the club again! He is suppose to be the most experienced head in that team yesterday and the poor kids have him to look up to??? No hope.
And not forgetting how unbelievably poor of a player he is! Sell him now! This is not the first time he has shown absolutely no committment to the team. Least committed player I have ever seen!
Since I’m not going to get my wish as Wenger won’t resign and the cheapskate board from America who know nothing about football – the non-NFL version- won’t sack him here’s hoping and praying we avoid relegation and at least clinch 6th place.
On a positive side, at least Spurs are bottom.
ray wilkins needs a job !
Point 2:
Another new record for Arsene.
The 4 nil comeback
no shot in Barca game
and now this!
I wonder what the next one is?? Get this cunt out NOW!!
I wouldn’t get too excited about Spurs: They’ve played the best two teams in the premiership: One of which was away.
They are miles above us: We are in The Fulham, Bolton, Stoke area of the Premiership.
and they still have 1 game in hand. If they win that, I hope not, we’ll below Spurs.
Great Post, you nailed it,
A change of manager is not needed a change in the way the manager manages things is needed, arsene needs a re-think and so do arsenal, we have 3 days left and i hope and pray we add to the squad.
Darren Dein might be a d*** as most agents are but could have used his dad for some transfer dealings this summer, i think gazidis, law and the 20 others doing the job are simply not good enough.
No a change of manager IS NEEDED because the manager will NOT change his ways. I don’t trust Arsene to spend OUR money anymore. WENGER OUT
Point 3….
I said last week, that we would do well to get 8th….who believes me now?
Obviously if you’re an Arsenal fantascist and have only been supporting the team for the last 20 odd years – then this will seem a ridiculous statement.
Unfortunately though it is reality.
At this moment in time it will take 3-4 seasons of proper management and investment for us to recover to our former glory.
However at the current rate of decline, by the end of this season that figure could be 4-5 years.
Get this cunt out NOW!
And take that fucking bust with him!
If only i can tell wenger, this will be my logic line up for this season :
sczcheny
Sagna – Cahill – Vermaelen – Baines
song
Walcott – Wilshere – Arteta – Gervinho
Persie
Subs
Fabianski
Jenkinson – Djourou – Kos – Gibbs
Frimpong
AOC – Aaron – Rosicky – Arshavin
Park
Support team : Mannone, ignuel, Diaby, Arshavin,
Get lost : Almunia, Traore, Squillaci, Bendtner, and rest of useless kids…!
i challenge Wenger to build a team much more better than mine!!
i wanna ask,..why did he loan Carlos Vela and Denilson?..in that match denilson will be better than Coqueline who made an impressive performance,..lets talk about Arshavin,..what is that kinda player still doing in arsenal?..
Agreed.
Why he is loaning these players out when we need them! Denilson, although I’m not his biggest fan, would have worked harder than Rosicky any day.
huh……DENILSON!!
Has the time period of not seeing him play for us addled your brain??
Come on this is the person that got overtaken from a referee while traking back
I agree that Vela should play with us this season, not loaned out but I think Denilson should be kicked out because we have Song and Frimpong.
Song and Frimpong are better than Denilson if they didn’t do something stupid on the pitch.
A change of Manager is not needed”
What the fuck is wrong with you people??
A Frenchman, A Brit and a yank talking, Circa 1945….about Hitler:
“Listen he’s made a few mistakes but he’s the one for world dominance”
See the fucking picture??
Get this cunt out NOW!!
things have got to change at arsenal or this club (sports franchise)is completely fucked.
its all gone pete tong since david dein went .
cant they see if we are competing at the highest level with the (big signings)top earners it will create more revenue for the club ,we are the laughing stock of the world and we are meant to be the third most valuable football club franchise in the world . W.T.FUCK
everyone is telling the fool Arsene Wenger to buy he keep saying ‘Wenger – I will do what I think is right for the club’ what the fuck did you think is right for the club?..
I dont think you guys watch Djourou after danny wellbeck goal,..he look like a fool,..Wenger have this money from the board why have he refuse to buy players to strenghten the squard and challenge for the title?
he is such a fool
Yes, we all suffer now..but its us again that have to cheer for Arsenal…..
i really think that just a litltle of tweak, we can actually come back stronger amd challenge for the title…trust in Arsenal!
And the tweaks are :
1) 1 CB please!!! any of Cahill, Samba, Per Met, Jag
2) Please come back ASAP – Vermaelen, Sagna, Gibbs, Song, Frimpong, Gervinho
3) Ryo, Alex, Park, Aaron, Frimpong, Gibbs please STAND UP AND PROVE THAT U GUYS ARE ARSENAL MATERIAL!
with this little tweaks, we will win the league!
Again, here is a typical Arsene solution – “just a tweak”. At the highest level (of play and performance), you need to be more precise and decisive.
A. Pick Cahil, go to Bolton, pay them what they want ( a very brief, hard and quick haggling or bargainining), central defense solved . Case closed.
B. Gibbs is frail. Yes, we want to develop him and his career but not at the expense of the club. Get a 1st choice LB signed – period. Gibbs and his career will not die but wil rise up to the challenge.
Denilson????? Not a chance!!!!!!!!
Great blog, agree with most of it.
I’m not 1 of these gunners who wants wenger out, but there has GOT to be a big change!
Why!? Why silent Stan and not Usmanov? Atleast the latter gives the right impressioin and is willing to invest
Why?!
Why hasn’t wenger seen the following players aren’t good enough for arsenal?!
djourou, traore, squillaci, koncienly, diaby, denilson, rosicky, chamakh, vela, bendtner, almunia
And that’s a full 2nd 11!
Why?!
Why can’t we replace them 11 with samba, cahil, parker, baines, arteta, hazard and a out and out striker mabye benzema or even di natale, a out n out goal scorer, somone RVP can play just behind of.
I relise this will never happen but why not? The players listed are available fair enough all at a price but we’ve got more than enough £ from sales of adebayor, kolo, clichy, fab, eduardo, eboue, nasri, plus transfer kitty

Why?!
Why do I get the feeling we won’t even sign the 3players AW said he was looking for? We live in hope…

Atleast the scum are bottom!
wenger out
Please I defy any AKB to possibly build a case for him to stay.
Gelbs was right… AW is the new Brian Clough
RH was right, we are the new Monaco
SB was right, wenger is a cunt
Nobody wants to buy a left back!! what kind of team you want….you want to stay average or compete till May…!! we need a lot more than 3 players, more like five…we lost five, we were short before that and don’t count the kids…
Our board is weak , owner is just clown . Usmanov , come and buy us and bring DD back
Most Arsenal fans have already nailed their colours to the mast regards Wenger. Most people who say he should not be replaced – even after the shambles yesterday – will not change their minds even if we get relegated. The blog after we got relegated would say – “But who better than Wenger to get us back to the Premiership? Which other PL manager would you rather have to get us back to the Premiership?”
I really dont understand the support of the manager by his backers. It is abundantly clear that he has failed miserably this transfer window. His performance has been deteriorating steadily for the past 6 years – and there has been no will on his side to turn the situation around. All his press conferences point to the fact that he has no intentions to change his approach. The football world has passed him by – and he refuses to adapt to the realities of the game in 2011.
For me Wenger is an old subject now. It is clear, for me, that he is not the right man to take the club forward. He cannot change himself to get us competing with the biggest clubs in England. The onus is now on the board. If they dont show intent in challenging for the title and sack him when this season turns into a nightmare – then you can be sure that Arsenal has been turned into a money laundering project by the owner, board and manager – and they are only in Arsenal to make bucketloads of cash out of it.
A lot of people are saying sack wenger, what good will that do to bring in the players we need? After all the board don’t want to spend their money and frankly scouts n every1 have been useless!
I point my finger at the board and the new owner (has he even taken over yet?) As some1 pointed out things started going downhill when David Dein left and he had a falling out with the board, even lady nina had some parting blows for the board after she sold her shares to the WRONG man for our club! There is bad management going on at the arsenal and Wenger is only a small part of that problem you have to open your eyes smell the coffee. He is taking a lot of flak for these out dated baffons
Wrong.
The manager is responsible for the performance of the team on the pitch. When he wins trophies do you go out and congratulate the board and owner? Why do you drag the owner and the board out of the closet when things are not going well?
The board are a bunch of wankers, but you cant blame them for a poorly prepared squad, bad coaching and atrocious tactics. I only blame them for not doing the necessary and sacking Wenger
Who exactly is the board nowadays? Gazidis (I think) and some other people who have no real stake left in the club? Shambles! Utter shambles.
They need to in reality bring in like 5 players but we all know they are only going for 2! Smh we need a lb as well as a cb!!!! 2 mids n cf.
Usmanov would hv turned things around. This board r the ones who decide wage structure n how long do they expect us to believe the line ‘money is there for AW to spend’ fact is they love the fact AW is making money for them and they don’t want to spend it. Same way we say a player is not bigger than the club is same way a manager is not bigger than the club! If AW was being stubborn they would have sacked him for not acting properly in transfer market…so don’t be fooled!!! They are smiling bcos the love money more than AFC…they r just like Nasri
Honestly the club will probably give him until at least a few more games. But right now, I won’t say that AW’s position is safe anymore. Remember, the board is only after money, so if it appears that the club will go down or not perform in CL or be in the top four, AW will be on the line. Ticket holders have a role to play too. Sometimes supporting the club means you have to make the hard call of not being the stadium to support them. Go to the stadium, sing outside. Let the players hear you but not let the board get paid.
The greatest pain was in GS point that it was the manner in which the players played. No belief and no pride. They didn’t care if it went to 10 or 11. A couple might be embarrassed for themselves. But there was no one there that would say “No, I won’t let you do this to Arsenal”. The only one that fought with pride was RVP but the penalty affected his confidence too much. Think it actually went to his head earlier and scuffed that shot.
Now, that kind of commitment and belief in a club cannot be bought. Here is where I agree with Wenger that it’s not SIMPLY buying some players. But he has to then give us a solution. How do we make the players have pride playing for a club?
Winning sliverware and competing with other great clubs should do it. But as we know it’s a downward spiral from here. We look like shit, players don’t believe in each other, good ones already thinking about leaving (seeing how well Cesc and Nasri are doing), potential good buys won’t want to be associated with us. So we are left with this team and more young talent, the only talent who would take a risk with us now.
Prepare for another few years of pain, fellow gooners. This club won’t be fixed in one season. The fundamentals are too weak.
…so scary, but oh so true – we are in for a few rough years ahead !!
@krocha Wenger responsible for performance
But forget about the performance and look at the dealings of the club in the summer over transfer. They have a lot to answer to as well.
If we has bought the necessary when we had the time it couldn’t possibly be this bad. AW alone can’t be blamed for the way the club have gone about its business….
We will find out soon enough if the board or Wenger is more responsible for this.
If Wenger is sacked, then the board is alive.
If Wenger stays, then Wenger, Gazidis, the Board, and the club are in serious trouble. This would simply mean that the Board is using Wenger to make them truckloads of money.
No “big club” in this world – be it in Spain or Italy or England or Turkey – should tolerate this level of incompetence from a manager.
We are in serious danger of being labeled as a feeder club and relegate ourselves to the level of Ajax – from our current level of competitiveness i.e. competing with the ManU’s, Barca’s and Milan’s of this world. No player would join Arsenal – because players care for only 2 things in football today – money and trophies (in that order). Arsenal can’t provide the money, and we are staring down the barrel as far as trophies are concerned. Club history counts for nothing.
AW was a very gud manager(then).he still is but refuses 2 continue 2 be.he n d f***in board are just like d leaders in my country who knows d right tin 2 do n always com up wit d best ideas(at least he is a PROF) Bt they will just not implement it coz of their sel**** interest. Cant stop crying since yesterday afternoon
Americans don’t view sport the way we do; to them it’s about profits and sometimes they want their teams to lose so that they can claim tax credits. In baseball they are happy to be also rans to the Yankees, in basketball they are happy to just compete with the Lakers etc.
We need someone in who really loves the club and is a fan. I remember during the Untouchables days, I saw on tv a shot of David Dein singing his heart out along with the fans after yet another Henry-inspired demolition of a hapless club and once he realised he was on camera he toned himself down. In those few brief seconds I saw a true fan that obviously loves the club. Bring him back and get the Yanks out!
Sorry, I understand your frustrations but your knowledge of US sport is quite poor. No team is happy to just make up the numbers. Look at the money the Red Sox (owned by the Liverpool mob by the way), Phillies have spent this year. Both teams have better records currently than the Yankees.
Reading all of the contibutions:
8-2 is disastrous, but I now understand why ferguson was supporting AW this past week because ferguson is clever, knowing how weak we were, all the stats in front of him. AW fell right for it, putting a youth carling team on.
AW should to give up being responsible for the stadium keys and mortgage at ashburton grove, and spend (wisely). He needs to focus purely on the pitch, hand everything back to management board at Arsenal (average age 70) who either take responsibility or get out.
Silent Stan is a real disaster to us right now, unless he comes out and makes a positive supportive statement.
We missed out badly by letting Mata go to Chelsea, now will Eden Hazard come to us after yesterdays defeat. My team, the manager and his backroom staff, the Arsenal management board, and most of all the american owner all need to get a grip.
Sunday 08.28 time 16.00 I was a proud arsenal fan. Today I`m just a fan.
im totally humiliated. i knew we would lose the game given our players. but that margin. still a fan though
I am astonished that you still want him to be manager of Arsenal.Wenger is so bad in the transfer market that 4 out of 5 is now duds.Tactically he couldnt be worse,Jenkinson at OT give me a break. Now he is signing some south korean who couldnt even score regularly for a rubbish side like Monaco, give me another break.Wenger is finished as a top manager he didnt change when change was needed he have stood still for so long and will never change therefore he is condemned to repeat his failures over and over again.
Wenger has finally been found out. He thinks his kids are the best but when given the chance they have folded. No wonder Nasr and Feb want to jump ship. Wenger had promised quality signings meaning experienced guys. But he back tracked and got more and more kids, kids, kids, everywhere.
This massacre should serve as a wake up call. Sign more kids at your peril. If you don’t go for the quality and proven ones,Wenger will have to pay the price.
The problem is signing the proven players may or may not work.
Wenger know time is running out. His kids have no more time to grow.
I told my fellow gooners dat if we qualify 4 d champ league AW will com out n tell us his team is capable of springing up surprises.seeing d worst time of my gooner lif.Well d memories lives on.once a gooner is a gooner 4ever
Unfortunately it may all come down to doing what it takes to get them to listen to the fans. Only a mass boycott of games will hit them where it hurts the most: their profits. Thankfully I’m not a season ticket holder as I doubt very much that I could stomach paying the highest ticket prices for what we saw last match. Shouldn’t Man Utd charge the highest prices given what we saw?
@Saint:
Season tickets are paid for in advance of the new season starting, we would lose out no monies being returned on failing to attend, it’s our loss not AFC. So we lose out on match results yesterday, the board win every time.
Then find another way to hit them in the pocket, cause that really is the only thing Stan seems to be here for. All the other billionaire owners are putting money in and our takes it out why we all stand back and bitch about the manager.
Great blog as per usual.
Rubbish display on the pitch as is becoming usual with us.
I don’t say this lightly but Wenger is in danger of losing it and we are in danger of throwing the season into the tp=oilet.
Wenger is completely responsible for this unacceptable defeat.
Granted we were beset with a poor team but who’s fault is that?
We need at very least 3 good and experienced players in.
Otherwise, the fans should let the board know their feelings where it hurts, in the pocket.
Utterly rubbish today.
Point taken Rebelredgunner; I’m glad you can still bring yourself to come watch. I suppose Arsenal will outlast the manager and the board eventually; hopefully the damage done isn’t too permanent ala Leeds Utd. I’ve been a fan since 1979 and will always be one even if we play non-league at some stage.
It won’t get to those depths. Remember Leeds were crippled by debt and had to sell their best players at rock bottom prices. We are not in that financial position – we have money, just don’t seem to spend it for whatever reason.
Hello guys. I am an Manu ardent fan. See you at The Emirates.
Did anyone else notice Traore laughing at the whistle..he shud b fucked off to the championship where he belongs
Yeah, he was laughing coz he’s just a spectator. Lansbury too. They should not be playing football, period.
the tactics were wrong from the outset we were playing high line and for the whole 90 mins united were able to run behind our defence.for the last 5/6 matches united have been able to destroy us by counter attacking the tactics shoud have been tight defence and try to hit them on counter.what was wenger thinking. not only wenger is out to destroy our club also carriers of youngsters in the team . he subed coquelin when he was the only midfielder trying to challange united rest were absent.
i also watched nasri’s debut for manc and fab in super cup. earlier i was bitter for them to leave but now i know why they left. who in there right minds whold play with the shit we have and that too for 90k/wk salry. its an insult to the talent and standard of players they are. they will look more effective bcoz of the players with whom they play. only thing we can offer them is a good stadium and loyal fans. a couple of years more with this shit we will be permanently in mid table
For all u Stupid AKB’s:
United were missing their first choice centrebacks too! Only difference is that they have capable deputies who can come in and do a job when there are injuries!
And the reason for our thread-bare squad is Wenger! Honestly if u cant see the light still then probably u ll never see it! And serious u AKB cunts can fuck off, no longer give a damn in tryin to convincing u guys! We can win our battle without u DELUDED CUNTS!
ARSENE OUT!!!
Really your best argument is, ” AKB cunts can fuck off now” ha ha. Strong argument that, just what we need among the fans.
I think, for whatever reason, Stan is outing Wenger, I suspect it is that, like all bosses he wants he’s own man in charge and deemed that Wenger needed taking down first, for this to possible. To be fair he was probably right.
Or maybe its that Wenger, Dein, and Usmanov are conspiring to lower the share price so that Usmanov gets a better deal.
Or, who know’s? Unfortunately no-one that matters, so we are left feeling shit and directionless until Stan open his mouth and his wallet.
It pains me (truly) to say this but Mr Wenger must man up to the board or leave. It time for us fans to know what the fuck is really going on, so we can all stop guessing and getting at each other. Vote with your money, stop buying all things Arsenal until this mess is sorted one way or the other. Wether you like it or not, the attitude of “we must get behind the team whatever” just means that the powers that be can do whatever they fucking like with our money. Change will only happen if we, the fans make it so.
GS if u still cant see that Arsene is the problem, then I ve got to say u r living in a cave! Only way for this club to move forward is if Wenger leaves!
I want only one signing- A Manager!
Time for u to use the considerable power ur blog gives u and time to rally for Arsene to LEAVE!
Arsene is sayin “what needs to be turned around?”
OMG he really is suffering from some serious mental disease! Fire him then atleast he can go get treated! The delusional c*nt!

WE LOVE YOU ARSENAL WE DO,
OOOOH ARSENAL WE LOVE YOU.
OOO2 OOO2B OOOO2B A GOONER
Chaps,
For the past three or four years, I’ve taken up this persona as “Well-endowed gooner” as a antidote to the growing despair of supporting a football club that is/was slowly going down the skids.
And it worked for a while; WEG was like a jovial and avuncular uncle who at family reunions would muss up your hair, pick coins out of your ear, and call you “sport” instead of your real name. WEG was like that uncle that distracted you and made things bearable at those family reunions while, in the corner of your eye, you could see your mum yelling at your dad about the dirty slang he was seeing on the sly. But even the most well-intented uncle can’t distract you forever. One day, you’ve got to turn your head and watch the very public dissolution of your family, and accept the reality of the situation.
So there comes a day when even the biggest of penises cannot distract your attention from the shit-storm that is the Arsenal, the dissipation of our once brilliant manager, the moral turpitude of our permissive board, the lack of quality, experience and determination of our players, and the very chilling, very real fear that an 8-2 drubbing is not the darkest hour before the dawn.
So I’m sorry, chaps. Today is the day that the Wegster withdraws his penis from public display. The Wegster’s penis cannot distract you from the problems that the Arsenal face anymore.
That said, it still IS a very large penis….
WENGER OUT !!!
“I will only buy players that are better than the ones we have”
You fucking sick old man.
How many other players in world football lose 8-2??
How many defenders have conceded 10 in their first 3 league games?
The Arsenal away fans gave some great support yesterday, obviously directly linked to Wengers appeal that the team needs more support, indirectly he was blaming the fans for Arsenal being crap.
Yeah well the sheep duly obliged & they were repaid by the worst performance in Arsenals history.
Im sure there is a lesson here somewhere.
“There are no repercussions at Arsenal. No consequences. Play badly, you still keep your place in the team. Throw away a lead, you’re told you showed great mental strength. Concede eight goals to the team you’re supposedly challenging for the title, and the manager says it was a good experience. That kind of leadership doesn’t work. Arsenal has become a school without rules, and the students are failing their classes.”
In some sick twisted way this was always inevitable and probably needed to get rid of a ridiculously deluded man who has utterly lost the plot.
Lets end this relationship now and hand the keys to a new man in December with some cash. And we need an old fashioned agrarian sort in the meantime to bollock the team when needed.
Arsenal fans should open there eyes and see that the board and wenger are bringing the club down, the fans stop going to the stadium to watch matches that is the only wenger can be sacked or their will be great change
I urge all fans to boycott the next home game against Swansea.
A simple action that will speak volumes.
That would only result in a positive wake up to all associated with Arsenal.
Full stop.
I am sick and tired of people saying nobody could replace Arsene. Anyone can do a better job than Arsene is doing rite now!
1. Martin O’Neill
2. Frank Rijkaard – currently with Saudi Arabia, may seek a return to club football. Understands the Barca philosophy, Champs league winner.
3. Oscar Tabarez – not a great club manger, but recently won the Copa America with Uraguay and took them to the semi’s of the World Cup.
4. Joachim Low – led a young German team to the semi finals of the World Cup. Arguably the most entertaining side in the tournament. May be tough to draw him out of his position.
5. Carlo Ancelotti – why not?
6. Manuel Pellegrini – currently with Malaga, may be difficult to tempt him with all the cash Malaga can throw at him
7. Vicente Del Bosque – After the Euro 2012, the Spain manager may seek a return to club football.
8. Louis van Gaal – recently sacked from Bayern for finishing 3rd, has a great club record.
9. Didier Deschamps – with Marseilles, may seek a jump to a “bigger” club.
10. Felix Magath – took a very average Schalke 04 team to 2nd on the Bundesliga and decent run in the Champs league

Those fan’s who seriously believe Arsene should go, really don’t know too much about the affects of manager change on a club. It would be a disaster to change the manager now. Now I am a huge Wenger fan, and I am not defending him in this situation, please believe me. Sacking him now is not the answer.
Let’s start looking at our ageing out of date board who need to go! This is the main problem with the club right now trust me! They are slowing every deal up, they are the ones who don’t want to pay the money for players that we need. SACK THE BOARD,
Great post about the game. There’s so much more you have missed though.
Rosicky????? Are you being serious! What a disgrace of a player, not heart, no fight and his behaviour when that free kick was taken is truly frightening. His performances have been abysmal, and thats being kind. What worries me the most about Rosicky is that he is a senior memeber of the team, one that young players look up to. Shocking.
Johan Djourou! Where do I start? In parts last year he was showing massive improvements, particularly remember against Chelsea last year. BUT now he is the most error prone defender in the premier league. This is no exaggeration, just look at the goals we have conceeded, 5 of which are down to his poor committment and more importantly shocking decision making! He was at fault for so many goals, by making basic errors that you wouldn’t find in kids football.
The full backs! Traore never has been good enough, still isn’t even after all his loan spells. And poor Jenkinson. Yes, he had no protection from anyone around him, but my word he is a million miles away from being an Arsenal player. He lacks pace and another with shocking decision making. He was playing non league football in December and then straight into the Arsenal team at Old Trafford. Poor management Arsene, this kid is not ready, and I do not believe he is showing signs that he is anywhere good enough for premier league football.
Wenger failed in his lack of game plan, and left our full backs exposed. Walcott and Arshavin had to play deeper and our key should of been protection. We needed to squeeze the ball more, but we let them play through midfield, which allowed those easy balls over the top and in behind our league 2 defence.
Only positives were Ramsey, who on the ball is showing massive improvements. And I though Coquelin on his debut was very impressive. He worked hard, he ran, he tackled and gave his all, something the experieneced players around him didnt.
Where to go from here! Scary times when you hear Wenger refusing to admit we need to buy, making every Arsenal fan gulp. After yesterday a Full back is a new priority in my book, and with Jag’s ability to play along the backline, he would be essential, just please Arsenal pay the money!!! Cahill in as well no question. Arsenal should do everything they can to prize Kaka from Madrid (he is rotting on their bench) and sign Eden Hazard from Lille. It means investing every bit of money available and the board finally adjusting the wage bill!!!! DO IT CAUSE WE NEED IT.
A not to the best performance from Arsenal yesterday was the amazing support of the fans, who did not stop singing throughout. So this message goes out to that little weassel Nasri for saying we are not passionate, the most disrespectful person I’ve ever known in my life! Wonder if Arsene would play me against Man City at the Emirates so I can do what is needed to Nasri…
..if the problem (in signing players) is the board, AW should do himself and us a world of good and stop pasting it over. Let him hint at the players he wants and stop being so secretive…..and if being a bit open is too much for him, let him step aside.
How much has our wage structure changed compared to our income growth in the last 10 years? How can a CL club of 14 years experience not be able to sign 3 x 20 millin players in one transfer window when we NEED IT MOST(especially haven made same amount from the sale of 2 players)?
Answer 1: We cannot sign them because we are not allowed to pay them well or pay huge sign-on for them . .board decision.
Answer 2: We cannot find any player . . .impossible !!!
Couldn’t agree more! The board are working on behalf of the owners to ensure the club is making money, and a lot of money. This money is not being invested back in the club for what we need the most, players.
He said before the departure of Fabregas and Nasri that money was there to spend, so lets say £40 million (I would of thought thats how much his budget was) + fab and nasri money thats £90 million. It all should be invested in players and wages needed to attract them, simple!
James, good points but Wenger is responsible so how would it be a disaster to sack him. How can getting hammered 8 – 2 not be classed as a disaster. WENGER IS A DISASTER and any change of manager would be a step up from this. Every year he sprouts the same shit judge me at the end of the season, well he has been judged and he must go
For the first time I am genuinally worried about his management, but we have to have faith that he will be the one to put it right. Yes it was humiliating, but lets see what the next 3 days offers us before putting him to the sword. He did a good job getting the team doing the business at Udinese, we need to just see if he can get us out of this mess. He deserves that opportunity for all he has done for teh club.

Hey Pal,
The fans who say Wenger shouldnt go or needs more time…TOUGH.
He’s had 6 years of his experiment.
He’s lost the players, He’s lost his tactics.
Sadly his time is up.
This is about the future of Arsenal FC
NOT ARSENE FC.
BTW: No one is excusing the Owner ( we dont have a board)
Let’s start right at the top which is where a lot of the problems lay. If Wenger doesn’t sort this, then I think we need to start looking at him. I don’t necessarily argue with everyone having these views on the manager, but he has done an incredible job for the club and within a budget (set by the board) has done what was asked of him. But now its different and now he needs to show how good a manager he is. If he doesn’t sign anyone with quality and experience then I could be joining you on your views!
+3
Wenger should do the decent thing & go, step aside to let Stevie Bould manage things… PSG would take him & French football will suit him. The model has changed after 15 years & without ambition & leadership there is no hope for future success.
This Yankee Silent Stan can also go & do one… what is the point of taking ownership of a club & doing nothing, the only thing the board are consistency doing is mugging the fans off with price increases which do not reflect the quality of the product as the Arsenal brand is rapidly choking stinking of Wenger’s ignorance!
left ball – club owner who knows nothing of The Arsenal heart and soul, looking like a sexual pervert.
right ball – board of grey-haired coward wankers.
penis – pruned deluded manager obsessed with yoof and mental strengf.
utter bollocks…
Sorry GS. I do respect the work and commitment you put in to this blog, but this is just your worst article ever.
You correctly highlight all that is going wrong at this club. Infighting amongst the players, our mainstream players pissed off with Wenger, a shocking disciplinary record, the squad not strengthened, etc.
3 League wins since the CC Final!
But to say that the away fans reminded him of his commitment to the club is absurd. He is trashing this club, and the only commitment he has left, is to hold on to his £6.5m salary.
If Wenger was committed, do you think he’d have allowed things to slip this far. Every year the AKB’s trot out the line that he’s seen the light and will buy. A committed man would have done something about this demise with the required signings, and not the French League dross we seem to only go for.
He is only committed to proving his project will work, not what is beneficial for Arsenal.
And still, with 3 days of the window left, you seem to think that a couple of signings can put things right? This mess goes far deeper than being resolved by a couple of signings.
‘Get the transfer business right and our season could start on September 10th against Swansea?’ The season started 2 weeks ago! Isn’t a full summer enough for Wenger to sort things out?
Your acceptance that we are only competing for 4th place from the off is alone, indicative of how far expectation levels are now. But you’ll be quite content I guess with 4th. I just expect with our resources and ticket prices to be punching a bit higher than that.
Well we know what excuse making is coming next. It’ll be ‘I expect Wenger to sort things out in the January window.’
And as for it being his mess, so he can sort it out? This says it all. He is fucking up, and his inactivity in the transfer market just shows he is incapable of putting it right. At what point do you say enough is enough? How far do we have to crumble before a change is needed.
I remember Nick Leeson causing a bit of a mess at Barings Bank. It was his mess, and didn’t he try to fix it?
After yesterday’s humiliation, and the continued support for Wenger, I feel the only way to get rid of him is for Arsenal to go the same way as Barings Bank. Once the fans realise they’re being ripped off and profits start to fall, then maybe Wenger might be hauled in to the Boardroom. But until then, it’s please carry on with the good work.
Spot on! +1

Good post, couldnt agree more
Stevie O bang on the money. Great Post.
i’m quite looking forward to a relegation battle, first time since the mid-70s! Its a lot better than trying and failing to win the league. you only need to win 1 in 3 and any points against the top 6 are a bonus. mind you i wouldnt pay to go to the games that would be stupid.
how about martinez for manager? great guy, plays the right way, used to relegation scraps. we’d have a couple of fallow years but come back stronger than ever in 2 to 3 years time
The thing is, i don’t even think UTd are that good. We were just so pathetic and gave up too easily. Awful!
armand traore having a medical at qpr, thats not a bad thing, but who the fuck is gonna be our left back, gibbs who cant stay fit for 2 fucking games in a row?, or play vermalen, our best cb as a left back? this is getting me dwn now, how the fuck cud wenger do this to us, what a cunt that man is! we got like, 2 days 10hours left in this transfer window to bring in what we need, and we all kno its not just 2 players, we need at least 4, 2 cb, a cm and cf oh and a lb, oh happy days

1. It looks like AW is all alone in fighting the good fight. Seeing Pat Rice looking up in the stands for instructions is embarrassing.
2. Everyone expected yesterday’s game to be one sided. Arsene made an emotional choice to go for broke by playing a high line and we ended up being far worse than broke. IMO, this game demanded that we play with the “park the team bus in front of our goal” mentality. I totally respect the management choice to not spend for the sake of spending, but then tactics have to reflect the reality of the day.
SACK THE BOARD!!! ALL ON DEMO!!!

“As I watched at home, I briefly (and, I now realise, irrationally) wondered if Wenger might resign in the aftermath of the game. What changed my mind was our extraordinary fans, who for much of the second half drowned out the United supporters with a chorus of “We love you Arsenal”. They will have reminded Arsene of his commitment to this club. He won’t walk away now.”
Too much emphasis in the blogosphere has been made of our ‘fantastic’ support yesterday.
You have to remember where we were. The fans unified yesterday simply because we were at Old Trafford, against the scummiest fans in the country. Against that red-nosed twat Fergie and our old adversaries who we used to go toe to toe with.
To get behind the team in the face of that adversity was commendable. But don’t for one moment think that was carte blanche support for Wenger. This was in no shape or form a little reminder to Wenger of his commitment to the club.
I tell you, had that annihilation been at any other ground, or even half a thrashing such as that, there wouldn’t have been the same support. It’d have been close to a riot. Chants of ‘spend some fucking money’ would have been the tamest of the chants hurled at Wenger.
The fans were let down yesterday, and unified for this one time, to save some face as the United fans undoubtedly taunted them.
Let’s see how fantastic our support is against Swansea if we are losing 1-0 with ten minutes left. These chants will definitely be a reminder to Wenger of his commitment to start earning his £6.5m salary.
Dont be fooled, it was the utd fans singing we love you Arsenal, and who can blame them, we have replaced city as a certain 6 points for utd every year now
GS. Wow. Spectacularly retarded apologetic bollocks.
‘It’s his mess he should be able to sort it out’???
HE HAS HAD SEVEN YEARS OF BULLSHIT TO SORT IT OUT.
It’s like me fucking everything up in my job and then saying ‘it’s my mess, I should be given a chance to fix it’
He is on £6.5 mil a year. Quite simply unbelievable how brainwashed and spineless you are. AN EIGHT-TWO DEFEAT and you are STILL making excuses for him??! You say hearing the fans singing ‘reminded him of his commitment’??! You idiot. His commitment is to his £6.5 mil a year. He shouldn’t be given the chance to make the decision a proper board would force it on him.
NO ARSENAL MANAGER SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO LOSE 8-2 TO ANYBODY IN A COMPETITIVE GAME AND KEEP HIS JOB. WHAT A FUCKING JOKE YOU ARE FOR SUGGESTING OTHERWISE.
Reminded him of his commitment??! Go on, do one.
LMAO, I just saw ArsenalFC blog and all the AKBs are slowly but surely trickling out of their caves, making excuses for their lord wenger again. Pathetic. They’re so stupid it really amazes me. No wonder Wenger gets away with draping wool over those little sheeps’ eyes every year. BAAAAAAA

this was supposed to happen in ordr for the ultimatum to finally begin – wenger fixes it or he’s out
i prefer the latter as nothing will change wengers character – being a pussy
lol he looks so weak and pathetic more n more
Fair play to the people organising protests & demos. Very much needed.
Did no one notice that WENGER SAT IN THE DUGOUT FOR THE ENTIRE 90MINS ??
Horrendous.
Hey guys, the AKB’s seem to have taken a 24 hour break from posting on here today?
So to redress the balance, here’s some gems from the Goonerholic and his merry band:
“Take a step back and consider what was important in August. We have the Champions League berth that was absolutely critical. Eight points behind the leaders in August? We’ve won the League having been further behind than that in February!”
“That’s On The Scorecard As An Away Defeat – Nothing More. Nowt Less.”
“We’ve lost two, drawn one. A long unbeaten run is now required to keep the defeats at two and establish a firm platform by Christmas. That is nowhere near beyond us. We are The Arsenal.”
“I think as an Arsenal fan since only 1993 I can count today as character building”
These guys are priceless. What does it take for them to get upset? A 15-0 defeat? Relegation?
Stevieo, it’s incredible what the AKBs come up with.
Wenger needs to quit, simple as that.
In the past 2/3 months of Premier League football, I’ve witnessed 2 of the most HORRIFIC results in my time supporting Arsenal.
4-4 at Newcastle. 8-2 at Old Trafford. These are freak results which should happen once every 10 years. Those two results have happened in the space of 2/3 premier league months! Total disgrace.
Kem, I think there’s 2 type of AKB now.
There’s those that at least identify there’s some shit going on here at Arsenal, but for whatever reason, think Wenger is still the solution?
Then there’s the totally brain-dead jerks that can be found over at Goonerholic, who still think all is well in la-la land.
I’m at the state now where I’m past caring whether Wenger signs anyone over the next 2 days. We are so far down the road to ruin, a couple of average signings ain’t going to do much to halt things.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvaS9DtIH0g Remember the good old days?
Hi, true supporters of Arsenal FC and not Arsene FC..Missed the first half of the match but seeing that I’ve missed some utter dross brought about by a totally deluded manager and some halfwitted idol-worshippers of his, no loss there then.
On the highlights, I’m just seeing Coquelin in the centre of our 4-3-3 formation.
COQUELIN. Making his debut against Manchester United.
In the Premier League. At Old Trafford. In the centre of midfield where Fabregas used to play.
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Arsenal are flat broke, cesc and Nasri money only papered over the cracks. Honestly we have no youth players coming through there is no project youth. We cant afford wages and we cant afford big transfers. This can only be the answer to what is going on.
Stevieo, Kem, if it’s the AKBs you’ll be wanting, just stumbled upon some of the comments on the Arsenal articles on Telegraph. Trotting out the usual tripe about how despicable ‘modern, young’ Arsenal fans are and how we have no remembrance and gratitude of Wenger whatsover and the classic thinking man’s argument: How we should go and support scum, citeh, chelski and what-have-you, because oh, the self-righteous lapdogs of Arsene FC just wouldn’t allow for any questioning of their beloved idol whatsoever.
The words ‘tyrant’, ‘CCP’ and ‘Gestapo’ come to mind somehow.
Probably’ll take us playing in League Two at the rate we’ll going before some of these morons even realise we’re not even a big club anymore.
Bad bad performance from the lads. Wenger shud stop let it happened. IMO, they shud have buy experience players to rise the mentality of the squad. Buy CB: mertesacker and Jag/Hummels. Mid: Gourcouff,Kaka or arteta. CF: podolski/hulk. Throw out : Chamakh, rosicky. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH ! Do this or Sue Wenger and the board!!!!!
